Automation Process Engineering Manager Location: Gothenburg, Sweden (alternative location: Shanghai, China) Help Scale the Manufacturing Platform Behind Next-Generation AI Technology Smart High Tech AB is a Swedish deep-tech company developing graphene-enhanced thermal interface materials for AI infrastructure, semiconductors, data centres and advanced electronics. As we move from commercialisation into industrial scale-up, we are seeking an experienced Automation Process Engineering Manager to lead the development of automated, scalable and high-performance manufacturing operations. The Role You will lead the transition from pilot-scale manufacturing to stable, high-volume production. Working closely with R&D, Production and Quality, you will develop the processes, automation systems and manufacturing capabilities required to support rapid growth while ensuring operational excellence and product quality. Key Responsibilities Lead manufacturing scale-up from pilot production to mass production. Design and implement automated manufacturing processes and workflows. Develop robust process architectures ensuring efficiency, stability and repeatability. Define automation requirements and manage equipment selection and integration. Establish process control systems to meet customer and quality requirements. Drive continuous improvement in yield, quality, productivity and operational performance. Support factory design, production line development, commissioning and ramp-up. Collaborate with R&D, Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to ensure successful industrialisation. Build and develop a high-performing process engineering capability. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field. Minimum 10 years' experience in automation process engineering, industrialisation or advanced manufacturing. Proven experience scaling manufacturing operations from pilot production to mass production. Strong expertise in factory automation, process engineering and industrial process control. Hands-on experience in production line design, commissioning and optimisation. Experience working with automation suppliers and system integrators. Strong leadership, project management and stakeholder management skills. Experience from one or more of the following industries is highly desirable: Graphene and advanced materials Battery manufacturing and energy storage Semiconductors Electronics manufacturing Other high-tech industrial environments Additional Advantages Experience participating in factory build-ups from concept to mass production. Experience working in international manufacturing environments. Experience from China and/or Europe. Knowledge of Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing and digital production systems. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or similar methodologies. Mandarin language skills and experience working with Chinese suppliers or manufacturing organisations. Language Requirements Fluent English, written and spoken. Mandarin Chinese is highly desirable. Swedish is advantageous but not essential. Tasks and responsibilities · Manage end‑to‑end fabrication workflows for AR masters You will run and coordinate the complete process flow for AR master fabrication, ensuring alignment with production plans, yield targets, and quality requirements. · Develop and optimize nanofabrication processes You refine and innovate lithography (EBL, maskless UV), dry etch (RIE, ICP, IBE), and thin‑film deposition (E‑beam, sputtering, PECVD, ALD) processes to enhance performance, stability, and throughput. · Execute and document metrology for process verification You perform SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, and optical inspections, generating complete and traceable documentation for internal use and for customer projects. · Define process windows and product specifications You translate experimental data and capability studies into clear process capabilities and product specifications. · Coordinate cleanroom activities across tool groups You collaborate across lithography, etch, and deposition areas to maintain efficient flow and minimize bottlenecks. · Drive corrective and preventive actions You investigate deviations, identify root causes, and implement improvements to strengthen process robustness.
