Collaborating with Product Managers, we identify key areas for improvement and strategize development plans. Our team conducts discovery and research with the industry's leading advertisers. Within the design team we design cutting edge AI native experiences and maintain and enhance our design system to ensure rapid development cycles while maintaining high output quality. We work closely with PM’s and developers and distill the customer needs into mental models that help our customers achieve their goals.    As a Lead Product Designer at Smartly, your role is to shape the future of the Smartly platform by deeply understanding customer needs, identifying emerging opportunities, and defining product experiences that create meaningful impact. You drive discovery efforts together with product managers, engineers, and researchers - exploring workflows, validating problems, and translating insights into strategic product direction.   Read more about our product here. AS A LEAD PRODUCT DESIGNER, YOU WILL: * Shape the direction of our product experience by identifying high-impact opportunities, clarifying complex problem spaces, and translating ambiguity into actionable product direction. * Design products and features that meet the customer needs and are intuitive to discover and easy to learn, delivering early value to customers. * Interact directly with our customers on discovery, validation and testing. * Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, other Designers, Researchers and leadership to align teams around shared outcomes, product vision, and the product experience * Deliver a great, end-to-end user experience for all customers. * Mentor and coach junior designers, helping them grow and thrive in their roles. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: * A minimum of 8+ years of experience in product design, ready to take on a leading role with an opportunity to grow further. * Confidence in leading the design process end-to-end, from identifying product opportunities to prototyping, delivering high-fidelity designs, and collaborating closely with engineers to implement solutions. * Passion for the entire product discovery process, including UX research, customer interviews, and close collaboration with product managers and leadership to define the product's future. * Experience in Marketing Tech or AdTech domains is considered beneficial. * Energetic and team-spirited, with a big appetite for growth and empowerment. * Previous experience in front-end development or vibe coding is beneficial. * Ability and willingness to work from our Helsinki office at least three days per week. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Platform Group. As a leading technical expert, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our teams through some of the most complex technical challenges at Smartly. Your influence will be crucial in shaping the technical direction of our platform, identifying critical areas for future investment, and driving execution on initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, and developer productivity. The Platform Group owns the foundational systems that power Smartly's products and engineering organization. This includes large-scale databases, distributed systems, infrastructure capabilities, and platform services that enable our teams to build and operate reliably at scale. The Principal Engineer reports to the Chief Architect and works closely with engineering teams, product leaders, and other stakeholders across the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES * Be a strong engineering voice alongside other leaders by advising and driving Smartly's technical vision and strategy, setting and upholding high standards for technical quality, scalability, and operational excellence * Drive execution through architecture, design, and hands-on technical contributions, taking responsibility for delivering large-scale technical initiatives to customers * Expected to remain actively involved in design reviews, prototyping, incident analysis, and implementation of critical technical components. * Lead complex cross-team projects that advance our platform architecture and long-term technical vision * Identify and address scalability, reliability, observability and performance bottlenecks across critical systems * Contribute to sharing learnings and knowledge across the organization, mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards * Participate in our recruitment process and help maintain consistently high engineering standards across teams WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR REQUIREMENTS * 3+ years operating at Staff, Principal, Lead Engineer, or equivalent level, driving technical strategy across multiple teams. * Proven track record leading multi-quarter technical initiatives spanning 3+ engineering teams and delivering measurable improvements in scalability, reliability, developer productivity, or operational efficiency. * 5+ years operating production systems where relational database architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance were critical concerns.
