As a Data Scientist, you will design, build, and productionize GenAI-powered products and pipelines that support business-critical
decisions across the organization. A key area of focus will be customer-facing conversational AI, where creativity, strong product
thinking, and a user-centred mindset are essential for developing cutting-edge solutions.
In addition, you will work on AI-driven document, image, and audio processing systems that power critical business processes and

Your mission We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Product Analytics and Center of Excellence team at Too Good To Go. In this role, you will help build and scale data science capabilities across product and business domains, enabling smarter, more automated, and more impactful decision-making. As a marketplace, many of our most critical challenges revolve around supply-demand dynamics, user behavior, and marketplace efficiency. You will work on problems such as personalisation, optimisation, and forecasting, helping us move from reactive analysis to proactive, model-driven systems. You will work as part of the Center of Excellence, partnering closely with Product, Analytics, and business teams through high-impact, project-based collaborations. Your role * Partner with Product and business leaders to identify high-impact opportunities where data science can drive step-change improvements * Develop and deploy machine learning models and statistical methods to solve problems such as: Personalisation and recommendation systems, Marketplace optimisation (e.g. ranking, matching, supply-demand balance) and Demand and supply forecasting. * Translate ambiguous business problems into scalable models, algorithms, and data products * Design and contribute to experimentation and measurement frameworks to evaluate impact * Collaborate closely with Product Analysts, ML Engineers, and stakeholders within the Product Analytics and Center of Excellence, working in an embedded, project-based model * Take end-to-end ownership, from problem framing to model development and impact evaluation * Contribute to building data science best practices, tools, and standards across the company Requirements * Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Econometrics, or a related field * Strong experience applying machine learning and statistical modeling to product or business problems * Experience in at least one of the following areas: Personalisation / recommendation systems, Marketplace or optimisation problems, Forecasting (time series or causal) * Strong programming skills in Python and solid proficiency in SQL * Experience with experimentation (A/B testing) and impact measurement * Ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and translate them into structured solutions * Strong communication skills — able to influence product and business stakeholders * High ownership and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment * Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are looking for a Data Scientist focused on Applied AI and optimisation, someone who enjoys turning complex, real-world challenges into robust and scalable solutions that deliver measurable impact. This is not a research role. This is about building solutions that are used. About the role You will join the Data Science Chapter and AI Center of Excellence (CoE), where we both enable AI adoption across the organisation and build applied AI solutions for real operational problems. In this role, your primary focus will be on developing and delivering AI solutions that support decision-making in logistics, ferry, and terminal operations. You will work on turning complex operational challenges into deployable systems within machine learning, optimisation, and generative AI. At the same time, you will contribute to a shared foundation of best practices, reusable patterns, and continuous learning across the team. You will collaborate closely with product owners and engineers, while the chapter provides support for deployment, monitoring, and scaling. Your background educational background can be many, e.g. a M.sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar. you most likely bring: * ~2–4 years of industry experience working with ML/statistical models * Strong skills in modelling, mathematics, and problem formulation * Experience with designing, training and implementing of predictive models or optimisation algorithms in a production environment. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Design, build, and maintain production-grade GenAI applications and pipelines using Python, MLflow, Databricks, and leading AI platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. * Develop AI-powered solutions including customer-facing conversational AI, LLM-driven data enrichment and analytics workflows, and audio, image, and multimodal processing systems for both internal and customer-facing products. * Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production Python code, including automated tests, monitoring, guardrails, validation frameworks, and fail-safe mechanisms to ensure reliability, security, and robustness in AI systems. * Build, orchestrate, and maintain data and AI workflows in Databricks, including pipelines, jobs, workflows, model serving endpoints, and custom applications deployed on the Databricks platform. * Leverage cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, and Azure to provision, deploy, and scale AI services, including LLMs. * Integrate, optimize, and manage AI workflows that leverage external platforms and services, including tools such as ElevenLabs, Metabase, and other third-party providers. * Collaborate closely with data engineers to ensure AI products are built on reliable, scalable, and well-governed data foundations. * Drive complex projects from proof of concept through production deployment, monitoring, ongoing optimization, and business adoption. * Make technical design decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and help define best practices for building reliable, secure, and scalable AI systems. * Mentor and support other team members through code reviews, technical sparring, and sharing practical knowledge across AI engineering, machine learning, and production GenAI systems. WHO YOU ARE * You have 5+ years of industry experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI Engineering, or a similar technical role, with a strong track record of delivering production AI or ML systems. * You have hands-on experience building and maintaining customer-facing GenAI applications and pipelines in production and understand the importance of automated testing, monitoring, guardrails, and reliability in production AI systems. * You have experience using LLMs from multiple state-of-the-art providers of frontier and open-source models, and you have a deep understanding of the strengths and trade-offs of different frontier and open-source models. * You have strong experience building applications that leverage retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, agents, or other modern LLM architectures. * You are highly comfortable developing production solutions in Python and working with libraries such as Transformers and the SDKs of leading LLM providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others. * You are comfortable working in Databricks or similar cloud-based data and AI platforms, including building pipelines, workflows, model serving endpoints, and production deployments. * You have strong PySpark, Pandas, and SQL skills and are comfortable working with large, structured datasets. * You are pragmatic and able to turn ambiguous business problems into concrete technical solutions, while helping stakeholders understand trade-offs and opportunities. * You are comfortable taking ownership of high-impact projects, working independently, and collaborating directly with stakeholders across the business. * You contribute positively to team standards, technical direction, and knowledge sharing, and you enjoy helping others become better at building high-quality AI systems.
