As the Second Line of Defence (2LoD) subject matter expert, the Financial Crime Risk Manager will report directly to the Group
MLRO and will play both a regional and global role. In this role, you will be primarily tasked with building and maintaining
effective AML/CTF, ABC, and sanctions systems and controls to ensure compliance with laws and regulations in various GoCardless
locations.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

THE ROLE You’ll be someone who enjoys driving processes through from design to conclusion, taking a proactive approach to managing regulatory obligations across our licences and regulated entities. You will have a great head for project management and organisation. Be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, knowing when to seek guidance from senior stakeholders to gather the input you need to support the Regulatory Compliance Team’s overall deliverables. While the role sits within the Regulatory Compliance team, you will also have opportunities to support wider Compliance and Risk initiatives across the business as needed. You’ll play a key role in coordinating regulator interactions and supporting critical projects, facilitating entry into new markets at a cutting-edge, dynamic, and high-growth fintech company. We must ensure that GoCardless adopts, implements and maintains forward-thinking and appropriate processes and controls, often encountering new challenges or issues that require innovative solutions. WHAT EXCITES YOU * Conducting regulatory assessments with a view to identifying regulatory risks and the path to compliance. * Coordinating and supporting licence and permission variation activities. * Assisting with regulatory reporting to the regulators (FCA, PSR, ASIC, FMA, HMRC) and notifications and acting as a custodian to keep records of all correspondence between regulators or external advice providers. * Supporting with regulatory examinations and audit processes. * Supporting in the delivery of our Consumer Duty Program. * Conducting horizon scanning and updating the regulatory obligations register. * Supporting with regulator engagement where appropriate, including coordinating responses and maintaining regulatory correspondence. * Supporting corporate governance as necessary for the regulated entities to maintain good standing and meet obligations. * Supporting oversight and monitoring activities, including but not limited to key processes run by other affiliates to ensure that they have been designed and are operating effectively. * Supporting the delivery of effective M.I reporting to support the board of directors and the executive management team in exercising effective oversight of the company’s compliance operations. * Creating and curating engaging training material where appropriate. MANAGER & TEAM You will report directly to Julien Molez, Chief Operations Officer. You will manage three teams which are at different levels of maturity:a team of 5 people: a Transaction Monitoring Fraud management and Regulatory Operations. Your team is the first line of defense against money laundering, fraud, and financial crime — operating at the intersection of operational rigor, regulatory compliance, and technology. WHAT WILL YOU DO? As iBanFirst expands across European markets, the financial crime risk landscape grows in complexity. We are looking for an analytically sharp, structured, and operationally driven leader to supervise our TM Financial Crime Operations function, steer it with rigor and precision, embed it in a robust and recognized quality framework, and drive highest level of efficiency through data and automation. Team Management & Operations * Lead and develop the different teams in the scope: set priorities, manage performance, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. * Oversee their daily operations: alert review, case investigation, SAR filing, and escalation processes. * Manage capacity and workload allocation to maintain SLAs and maintain backlogs at constant low levels. Fraud & Financial Crime * Own the fraud detection and prevention framework: typologies, detection rules, investigation workflows, and outcomes tracking * Stay current on financial crime trends and adapt the team's detection approach accordingly Controls & Quality Framework * Design and implement a quality insurance framework for each team, specific to each of them but consistent across domains. * Define and track KPIs: detection rates, false positive ratios, case resolution times, SAR quality. * Conduct regular calibration sessions and quality reviews to maintain consistent, high standards across the teams. Analytics & Automation * Use data to assess the performance of each value chains. For example, on the transaction monitoring side : rules effectiveness, reduce noise, and improve alert prioritization * Work with Product and Engineering teams to constantly improve underlying systems and integrate automation into workflows * Identify opportunities to leverage AI and machine learning to enhance detection and reduce manual effort Regulatory & Reporting * Ensure compliance with Belgian and EU AML/CFT obligations (LCB-FT, EU AML directives) * Produce clear, insight-driven reporting for senior leadership: what the data says, what it means, and what action it warrants * Lead or support regulatory audits and inspections related to TM and fraud * Be the key go-to person for C-Levels for these topics and lead the associated governance meetings. THE ROLE RECRUITMENT CONTEXT We are opening this position as part of our continued commitment to strengthening iBanFirst's internal control environment and governance framework. As we scale internationally across 11 European countries and operate under the supervision of the National Bank of Belgium, maintaining a robust and independent internal audit function is a core priority. The incoming Internal Audit Manager will join a well-established framework — with an existing audit plan and control environment in place — and will have the opportunity to build on these foundations, bring their own expertise, and grow with the function. MANAGER & TEAM You will report to Arnaud de la Porte (CFO/Deputy CEO/Board Member), with a dotted line to senior governance bodies including the ExCo and the Board. You will further establish and lead the Internal Audit function — a setup that comes with a lot of autonomy and direct ownership over the full audit scope. As iBanFirst continues to grow, the internal audit function would naturally follow. You will have direct, regular access to iBanFirst's Executive Committee and the opportunity to present directly to the Board of Directors. You will also work closely with: * External auditors * The National Bank of Belgium (regulator) * All business functions across iBanFirst's 11 European offices The role is based in Brussels or in Paris. WHAT WILL YOU DO? As Internal Audit Manager, you will lead the Internal Audit function and act as the Third Line of Defence, providing independent assurance to senior management and governance bodies on the effectiveness of iBanFirst’s governance, risk management, internal control, and regulatory compliance frameworks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Audit Planning & Execution * Develop and annually review the risk-based internal audit plan across the group, incorporating input from key internal and external stakeholders * Execute internal audit engagements for the non-IT scope in line with the approved audit plan and internal audit standards * Produce high-quality audit reports with clear findings and actionable recommendations Oversight & Monitoring * Oversee and monitor the performance of outsourced IT internal audits * Track and monitor the implementation of audit recommendations across the organization * Ensure audit activities are aligned with regulatory expectations, particularly those of the National Bank of Belgium Stakeholder Engagement * Periodically present audit results, key risks, and remediation progress to senior management, ExCo and the Board of Directors * Coordinate and collaborate with external auditors and the NBB when required * Build trusted relationships across all business functions — acting as a constructive and credible voice on governance and control matters ROLE OBJECTIVES First 3 months: * Get fully up to speed with iBanFirst's business, regulatory environment, and existing audit framework * Build strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders, across ExCo and business functions, as well as with the outsourced IT internal auditors * Take full ownership of the audit plan and ongoing engagements First 6 months: * Operate fully independently — ExCo members understand and value the function's output * Deliver first audit reports and present findings confidently to senior governance bodies * Establish a smooth working rhythm with external auditors and the NBB First 12 months: * Contribute to the internal audit function being recognized as trusted, credible and autonomous * Deliver high-quality internal audit reports in line with the internal audit plan * Potentially contribute to expanding the team WHAT DO YOU BRING?
