We’re looking for a Lead Backend Software Engineer to drive the integration of our POS platform with mission-critical systems like ERP, OMS, CRM, and loyalty engines. You’ll architect and build resilient services, shape our event-driven data flows, and ensure our store operations stay fast, reliable, and future-proof. You’ll be joining the Retail Experience team—where technology meets the shop floor and every request matters. If you love crafting clean APIs, streamlining integrations, and optimizing real-world system performance, you’ll feel right at home.   YOUR MISSION: * Backend & Integration Engineering: Design, build, and scale backend services that power POS integrations across ERP, eCom, CRM, inventory, and loyalty platforms Develop REST and GraphQL APIs that are performant, secure, and easy to consume Implement real-time and batch data sync, authentication flows (OAuth, SSO), and secure event pipelines * Architecture & Resilience: Contribute to the design of a cloud-native, event-driven architecture for global retail operations Build scalable integration patterns using message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and serverless workflows Support observability through proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning (e.g., NewRelic) * Testing & Quality Automation: Ensure reliability through a robust automated testing stack: contract tests, load tests, and test data pipelines Collaborate with QA and DevOps to streamline CI/CD and improve release confidence Participate in incident response and post-mortem analysis to continuously harden platform stability * Collaboration & Strategy: Partner with frontend, product, and vendor teams to align integration design with platform capabilities Influence technical decisions during vendor evaluations and rollout phases Impact roadmap decisions by sharing technical insights and platform implications Actively contribute to the broader architecture vision for On’s composable commerce technology stack.   YOUR STORY: * 5+ years of backend engineering experience with modern technologies (Node.js, TypeScript, or similar) * Proven track record integrating APIs across commerce, ERP, OMS, or CRM domains * Familiar with headless commerce, microservices, and composable architecture principles * Experience with message brokers (Kafka) and asynchronous data processing * Solid understanding of databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform) * Skilled in designing, scaling, and monitoring cloud-native services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) * Familiarity with OAuth2, token-based authentication, and secure service design * Strong debugging and telemetry skills: logs, traces, metrics, and real-time alerting   YOUR TEAM: At On, we don’t just create tools—we craft experiences that move the world. We are on the lookout for versatile Full-Stack Engineers to help us design and build exceptional features that lower the bar for users to perform graph analytics. In this role, you will own the user-facing surface of those products. You'll help new users get to value quickly by reducing friction in their first workflows, and make our internal tooling effective enough that the rest of the team can support and operate the service confidently. You will work closely with our internal design system at neo4j.design, and collaborate across product, design, backend, and SRE to ship cohesive, end-to-end experiences. This is a mid-to-senior role at the intersection of product UX, graph analytics, and cloud data platforms. WHAT WE VALUE We’re looking for engineers with experience in both frontend and backend development. You should have experience designing APIs, implementing data persistence, and integrating with third-party services. Familiarity with automated testing approaches, from unit testing to full-stack integration tests, is important. A willingness to learn, grow, and tackle new challenges as part of a distributed and collaborative team is essential. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering impactful features that enhance how users interact with Neo4j Aura graph analytics. You’ll work on everything from user-friendly interfaces to robust back-end systems, ensuring our solutions are scalable, reliable, and adaptable to diverse user needs. * Build and evolve the Aura Graph Analytics user experience inside the Neo4j Aura console. * Develop and maintain the in-app GUI for the Neo4j Graph Analytics App for Snowflake, an application that guides users through a multi-step workflow: selecting Snowflake data, projecting them as graphs, configuring and running algorithms, and writing back. * Design the graph-projection and algorithm-configuration UX for users who are not graph experts: clear workflow steps, sensible defaults, validation, and interactive previews of sampled graphs. * Improve the internal support tooling used to inspect the state of Aura Graph Analytics deployments and diagnose customer issues. * Use our shared design system (neo4j.design) so our products feel like one family. * Partner closely with product, design, backend, and SRE to ship cohesive end-to-end experiences across team boundaries. ABOUT THIS ROLE As the Technical Lead for Developer Experience at Ably you will report directly to our CTO and co-own the DevEx vision and strategy, transforming our dashboard, documentation platform, and control plane into a world-class experience. You are a senior, hands-on engineer who’s passionate about building for developers like yourself; someone who’ll obsess over the developer journey and elevate the user experience of the Ably platform. You’ll blend deep full-stack expertise with a strong product mindset and lead a team of five engineers where the feedback loop is immediate, because you and your team are the target users of the very ecosystem you are building. DAY TO DAY YOU WILL * Obsess over developer experience. You’ll have broad responsibility for elevating how developers interact with Ably’s platform and services, partnering with the DevEx PM as a unified leadership team to deliver a developer experience that becomes a reference point for the industry. * Lead technical execution and vision. You’ll lead a team of five engineers building customer-facing web applications and own the technical architecture and design decisions for our dashboard, docs platform, marketing website, and billing UI. * Drive a product-first engineering culture. You’ll foster an environment where engineers are themselves principal stakeholders of product features, and obsess over customer outcomes. You’ll challenge the "feature factory" mentality and build a team that takes true ownership of the product. * Thrive in a rapid iteration environment. You’ll operate in a high-velocity workspace where PMs, customers, and engineers co-create features. You’ll lead the team in working full-stack to iterate, improve, and ship improvements quickly. * Champion AI-assisted development. You’ll be a catalyst for AI adoption across the team. You’ll leverage LLMs and AI tools to accelerate velocity without compromising on engineering integrity. * Guide engineering outcomes and quality. You’ll set and enforce high standards for code review, testing, and production readiness. You will participate in incident response and coordinate with the Infrastructure team on platform dependencies and deployments. * Mentor and grow the team. You’ll manage performance, career development, and hiring. You will hold the team accountable for delivery commitments while providing the mentorship needed to turn engineers into product-minded leaders. WE'D LOVE TO TALK IF YOU HAVE * A natural empathy for developer customers because you are the target audience. You are genuinely excited about building developer tools and instinctively understand what good looks like. You're fluent in API design, documentation, and the nuances that differentiate a great developer journey. * Extensive experience leading teams at B2B SaaS or API-first companies. You have a track record of building product-minded engineering cultures where teams take initiative and ownership of product outcomes. * A strong software engineering background with expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript, alongside backend experience in Ruby on Rails or Node.js. You're comfortable writing code and building prototypes using our APIs, and have built and shipped customer-facing web applications at scale. * An AI-first mindset. You champion the use of  LLMs and AI tools as productivity multipliers for the team. You see AI as an enabler for higher velocity and output, not a replacement for engineering judgment. * Experience at a startup or growth-stage company or adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment with a focus on rapid iteration. To be effective in this role you’ll need excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
