The Transformers Business Unit is a core part of Hitachi Energy, enabling reliable power transmission and distribution worldwide. Within the Composites Factory in Piteå, we produce structural and electrically insulating components for high‑voltage transformers and switchgear—products that are vital for the transition to fossil‑free energy. The site operates in a complex manufacturing environment with high safety standards and a strong focus on sustainability, quality, and continuous improvement, serving customers globally both within and outside Hitachi Energy. In this role, you will be instrumental in strengthening the HSE culture and ensuring safe, compliant, and sustainable operations across the site. Position Summary Instill the RK safety culture into all employees.  Analyze different types of work environments and procedures.  Inspect workplaces for adherence to local, state, and federal regulations concerning safety, health, and environment.  As needed design programs to eliminate hazards regarding workplace injuries and damage to the environment. Role Responsibilities Identify hazards in the workplace and take appropriate steps to eliminate them. Take necessary steps to promote safety and health on job sites. Job Description Introduction As a Chemical Safety Engineer, you will join the HSE department, which supports CERN in the implementation and application of its Safety Policy. With the HSE department, you will join the OHS Group, which is in charge of providing advice, monitoring, and following up on the implementation and accomplishment of safety objectives, aimed at a continuous improvement of a safe working environment. Within this group, you will join the General Safety and Equipment Integrity (GI) section. You will be one of the CERN specialists for Chemical Safety, joining a multidisciplinary team of Safety experts. Functions: Provide advice and support, including for risk assessments, in the Chemical Safety domain. Perform safety verifications on installations and activities. Provide support in the definition of requirements for the compliant transport of dangerous goods. Provide support in safety audits, technical reviews, and projects. Check the conformity to safety requirements of the engineering and tendering specifications. Write CERN Safety documentation including rules, instructions, and guidelines. Design and deliver safety training in collaboration with the CERN Safety Training service. Qualifications Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. Experience: Demonstrated experience in managing chemical safety engineering aspects of large-scale industrial facilities or projects. Demonstrated experience in providing advice and support on chemical and biological hazards, including the transport of dangerous goods. Knowledge of relevant European regulations or equivalent national standards for the chemical safety domain. Technical competencies: Occupational safety and risk management, knowledge of chemical risks and protection.
