Mission Brief Isar Aerospace is seeking a (Senior) Systems Engineer with experience in the development and qualification of complex aerospace systems. In this role, you will contribute to the systems engineering activities that support the successful development, verification, qualification, and operation of Spectrum and future launch systems. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, Product Office, Launch Systems Engineers, Engineering Teams, Program Management, and Quality functions, you will support the definition and implementation of systems engineering processes, qualification approaches, compliance activities, and technical baseline management across the product lifecycle. You will help ensure that requirements are translated into coherent, verifiable, and traceable technical solutions while maintaining alignment with program objectives and regulatory expectations. Your Role in Our Space Mission * Define and maintain systems engineering processes, methods, and standards across launch vehicle development programs. * Define requirements tailoring strategies for development, qualification, acceptance, operational, and customer use cases. * Develop and maintain vehicle-level Verification, Validation, and Qualification strategies and plans. * Coordinate the development and presentation of technical compliance evidence to external authorities, ensuring requirements, verification activities, and qualification results are effectively communicated and accepted. * Define compliance demonstration methods and qualification approaches for system and subsystem requirements. * Ensure alignment between requirements, verification activities, qualification campaigns, and generated evidence. * Support major technical reviews, including System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and Flight Readiness Reviews (FRR). * Establish and maintain technical baseline management processes throughout the product lifecycle. * Support architecture development by ensuring technical consistency, traceability, and requirements compliance across engineering domains. * Support mission assurance, reliability, safety, and compliance activities throughout the development lifecycle. Qualification Checklist * Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. * Minimum 8 years of experience in aerospace, defense, launch systems, spacecraft, aviation, or other highly regulated engineering industries. * Strong understanding of formal systems engineering principles across the complete product lifecycle. * Demonstrated experience in requirements engineering, verification and validation, qualification, certification, compliance, or mission assurance activities. * Experience developing qualification and verification approaches for complex hardware systems. * Experience leading technical discussions with regulatory and safety authorities, including preparation and presentation of compliance and qualification evidence. * Familiarity with ECSS, NASA, ESA, FAA, EASA, MIL-STD, or equivalent engineering standards. * Strong knowledge of technical review processes, systems engineering governance, and lifecycle management. * Experience managing complex technical interfaces across multiple engineering organizations. * Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. * Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines and levels of the organization. * Experience generating technical documentation, compliance evidence, and engineering reports. * Fluent in spoken and written English. Mission Brief As Director of Production Engineering, you are accountable for the end-to-end production engineering capability across all manufacturing operations. Your mission is to industrialize development outputs into repeatable, scalable, and compliant serial production, ensuring manufacturing readiness, process stability, quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery. You lead the team that converts early procedures into robust production standards, embeds them in PLM/MES systems, and drives continuous improvement across the factory. You act as the primary interface between Engineering (design & development) and Manufacturing (production & operations)—ensuring requirements, procedures, tooling, documentation, test strategies, and digital manufacturing infrastructure are aligned for high-rate, high-quality execution. Your Role in Our Space Mission: 1) Production engineering strategy & leadership * Define and execute the production engineering roadmap, including industrialization strategy, standardization, and scalability for serial production. * Lead and develop a team of production/process/manufacturing engineers; set goals, coaching plans, hiring needs, and performance standards. * Establish clear governance for process ownership, engineering change implementation, and cross-functional decision-making. 2) Assembly, integration & test (AIT) process ownership * Own manufacturing process definition across: * Assembly: mechanical/electrical build procedures, torque specs, critical process parameters, work instructions. * Integration: subsystem integration strategy (e.g., avionics, propulsion, communications), sequencing, interfaces, and acceptance criteria. * Testing: functional, subsystem, and system-level test strategy; test readiness, execution plans, and troubleshooting methodology. * Ensure processes are repeatable, auditable, and optimized for safety, throughput, and quality. 3) Industrialization & manufacturing readiness (NPI / transfer to production) * Coordinate with development teams to receive initial procedures and convert them into production-ready standards (control plans, critical-to-quality characteristics where relevant). * Drive manufacturing readiness reviews, line readiness, and process qualification for new products, variants, or upgrades. * Lead the “first builds”/pilot runs, capturing learnings and stabilizing procedures for volume execution. 4) Digital manufacturing (PLM/MES) & configuration control * Own the production engineering contribution to PLM/MES: * Translate procedures into structured digital work instructions. * Ensure traceability, configuration control, and alignment of as-built data. * Oversee creation and maintenance of: * mBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials) * BOP (Bill of Process) * Routings, work centers, and data collection points for quality and traceability. * Ensure engineering changes are implemented cleanly and quickly, with minimal disruption to production. 5) Documentation, compliance & quality partnership * Ensure complete, consistent documentation for: * Work instructions, process specifications, test reports, NCRs (non-conformance reports), deviations/waivers, and as-built configurations. * Partner with Quality to build robust nonconformance management and corrective action systems (root cause, containment, RCCA & PA). * Ensure processes meet applicable regulatory, customer, and internal compliance requirements. 6) Cross-functional execution & production support * Serve as senior escalation point for technical blockers in production: diagnose recurring issues, direct corrective actions, and prevent reoccurrence. * Align with Supply Chain and Operations on: * Kitting strategy, material availability, critical path timelines, and constraint removal. * Coordinate engineering support coverage and readiness for shifts, rate increases, and critical campaigns. 7) Continuous improvement, cost & throughput * Support Lean Team on Lean/CI initiatives to improve: * Yield, cycle time, takt adherence, OEE, scrap/rework reduction, and labor efficiency. * Establish KPIs and operating mechanisms (tier meetings, weekly business reviews) to track and improve production engineering performance. * Build business cases for capital investments (test equipment, tooling, automation) and manage the budget for your scope. 8) Capability building: training & knowledge management * Build a strong knowledge-transfer system between engineers and technicians: * Training plans, certification matrices, standardized visual work instructions, and lessons-learned libraries. * Ensure procedures are systematically categorized, version-controlled, and easily accessible to production teams. YOUR MISSION We are seeking a (Senior) Flight Control System Engineer (all genders) to lead the design and development of the flight control systems for our battery-electric aircraft. In this role, you will be responsible for defining and integrating the aircraft’s primary and secondary flight control systems, including both mechanical and electrically actuated elements, working in close collaboration with the flight physics, structures, and systems teams. You will drive the flight control system throughout its complete development lifecycle, from system-level requirements definition through architecture development, preliminary and detailed design, supplier coordination, integration, verification and validation activities, and ultimately system and aircraft certification. Working cross-functionally with structures, avionics, flight physics, systems, and overall aircraft design, you will ensure robust integration of the flight control system within the aircraft. As a senior engineer, you will play a central role in technical decision-making, system trade-offs, and the maturation of the overall aircraft configuration. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY * Define, derive, and manage system-level requirements for the flight control system, ensuring alignment with aircraft-level requirements, program objectives, and applicable certification regulations (CS-23 and related operational requirements). * Perform system-level functional analysis, including functional decomposition, architecture definition, interface identification, and traceability management. * Lead the detailed definition, development, and integration of the flight control system, covering installation design, kinematics, load paths, performance, reliability, maintainability, and safety considerations. * Own the technical coordination and oversight of suppliers and development partners, including requirement allocation, design reviews, verification activities, and compliance demonstration. * Support and contribute to system safety activities related to flight controls, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA/SFHA), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA), and Zonal Safety Analysis,in accordance with applicable airworthiness and safety standards. * Actively contribute to the design implementation and configuration control of the flight control system within the aircraft Digital Mock-Up (DMU), ensuring proper integration with structures and other aircraft systems. * Support the flight controls certification process, including preparation and review of certification plans, compliance checklists, qualification documentation and execution, and participation in ground and flight test campaigns.
