ABOUT US Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following the close of a $200M Series B, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, we are expanding our teams and capabilities to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces. Our work is guided by clear values: building technologies with real-world impact, pursuing excellence in everything we do, setting ambitious goals, and taking on the hardest technical challenges. We operate in a demanding environment where rigor, ownership, and execution are expected. ABOUT THE ROLE You will join the Test Bench team — the team building the software and hardware systems that automate our production line testing systems. As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you are the product owner of the stations on the floor. Where Automation Software Engineers build the technology, you make it work in production: reliably, ergonomically, and at industrial grade. You will own deployed test stations, drive their continuous improvement, and act as the primary feedback channel between the factory floor and the engineering team. RESPONSIBILITIES STATION OWNERSHIP & INDUSTRIAL HARDENING * Take ownership of deployed test stations and make them production-grade: mechanically robust, operator-friendly, and maintainable under real production conditions. * Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and integration issues at the station level; escalate to Automation Software Engineers when a software change is required, with a clear spec of what needs to change and why. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & OPERATOR ADOPTION * Identify recurring failure modes and friction points — not just technical, but workflow and ergonomic — and work with the engineering team to implement lasting fixes. * Build and maintain operator trust: a station that works technically but that operators avoid is not done. Your measure of success is adoption, not completion. R&D & ENGINEERING COLLABORATION * Translate floor observations into structured, actionable feedback for the engineering team: what operators are actually doing, what is breaking, what is slowing the line down, and why. * Own new station bring-up on the floor: work alongside Automation Software Engineers during integration, validate that the station meets production requirements, and sign off on readiness. * Perform hardware interventions on stations and integrate new hardware systems on the floor — sensors, cameras, instruments — getting them communicating with the existing stack. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS * 2+ years of hands-on experience in a production, field deployment, or industrial environment — manufacturing or robotics background preferred. * Comfortable with hardware: wiring, fixture work, component swaps, and basic electrical troubleshooting. * Comfortable with 3D CAD design and mechanical integration. Experience working on control cabinets is a plus. * Comfortable with Python and Linux: able to read logs, run diagnostic scripts, modify configurations, and debug a misbehaving system at the command line. You don’t need to be a software engineer, but you can’t be afraid of a terminal. * Strong instinct for root cause analysis: you distinguish symptoms from causes, and you look for a second root cause when the first fix doesn’t fully solve the problem. * Excellent communication skills: able to work effectively with operators on the floor and with engineers in Paris, and to translate between the two. Fluent in French and professional English LOCATION AND COMMITMENTS * Contract Type: CDI * Work Schedule: Full-time * Availability: ASAP * Location: On-site at our manufacturing facility (1 hour from Paris) We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
ABOUT THE ROLE As Harmattan AI parallelly scales several complex hardware programs—including ruggedized drone controllers, long-range RF systems, field-deployable launchers, and the UAVs themselves—we are establishing a dedicated R&D Hardware Tooling team. This team is responsible for building internal tools that live in the lab and within engineering workflows, enabling product teams to design, bring up, characterize, and validate hardware faster and with absolute confidence. In this role, you will own the software and embedded layers of this tooling end-to-end. This is a high-impact, fast-iteration position where your tools directly dictate development velocity. Furthermore, as one of the initial hires, there is a clear path to grow into a Team Lead role based on experience and performance. RESPONSIBILITIES * Tooling Software Architecture: Design reusable, modular automation and analysis frameworks (typically Python-based) utilized across all product programs. * Instrument & Fixture Control: Integrate bench instruments and custom fixtures using SCPI/VISA, serial, USB, GPIB, and Ethernet, abstracting device drivers for team-wide reuse. * Embedded Fixture Firmware: Write and maintain robust firmware (bare-metal and/or RTOS) for MCU-based development and validation fixtures handling I/O, signal generation, and measurement. * Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL): Build HIL and development rigs, integrating them seamlessly into CI pipelines for automated firmware regression tracking. * Data Acquisition & Analysis: Capture, store, and surface critical measurement data via databases, dashboards, and analysis scripts to enable data-driven design decisions. * Bring-up & Debug Support: Build specialized bring-up scripts and debug utilities to support product engineering teams directly at the bench. * Protocol Implementation: Implement and debug hardware communication interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, and RF/link interfaces. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner daily with tooling hardware and mechanical engineers to define fixture interfaces and support rig bring-up, while translating product team needs into reliable tooling. * Documentation: Maintain comprehensive architecture documents, validation procedures, and usage guides. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Educational Background * Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or an equivalent technical field. Core Technical Competencies & Experience * Proven Test & Automation Experience: Demonstrated success building bench automation, HIL/development rigs, or characterization tooling for real physical hardware. * Software & Automation Skills: Strong proficiency in Python automation (using pytest or equivalent frameworks) and instrument control via SCPI/VISA. * Embedded Firmware: Confident writing embedded C/C++ on microcontrollers (typically ARM Cortex-M), spanning both bare-metal environments and RTOS architectures (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr). * Hardware Debugging: Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and bench debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD interfaces. * Protocols & Infrastructure: Solid understanding of communication buses (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN) alongside version control and CI pipelines. Professional Attributes & Mindset * Rigorous & Systems-Minded: Possesses a disciplined approach to measurement integrity, clean code, and understanding both the firmware under development and the instruments measuring it. * Autonomous & Pragmatic: Capable of independently driving software architecture decisions while balancing robustness with rapid project execution. * Adaptability & Execution: Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, bringing a "no-task-is-too-small" mentality to a lean engineering team. * Strong Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to work seamlessly across hardware, mechanical, and product software domains without friction. Desirable Pluses * Experience within drone/UAV development, RF/radio systems, or telecommunications hardware. * Prior experience deploying CI-integrated HIL testing systems. * Experience working in ruggedized, military, or industrial-grade hardware environments. We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
About Dioxycle Dioxycle is pioneering breakthrough carbon utilization technologies that convert industrial emissions into sustainable chemicals with unprecedented energy and cost efficiency. By displacing fossil fuels for the production of key chemicals, Dioxycle has the potential to ultimately reduce over 800 million tons of CO2 per year, representing over 2% of the world's emissions. At the core of our process is a novel "carbon electrolyzer", a machine capable of using just electricity and water to convert carbon emissions back into valuable everyday essential chemicals. Our team is innovating across chemical, mechanical and system engineering to turn carbon transformation into an economically feasible, industrial reality through this completely novel technological approach. Having completed our industrial-scale electrolyzer prototype, we are now working with our chemical and downstream offtakers towards First-of-a-kind plant deployment and subsequent commercial roll-out. We are supported by world-class funders including Bill-Gates-founded Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital and Gigascale Capital and have raised $40M to date. We operate from two centers in Paris and California (so whether you are passionate about outdoors or good food/art scenes, we have a location for you to join!) Your Mission Dioxycle is seeking a hands-on Automation & Electrical Engineer to join our hardware team. You'll be working directly on the control systems that operate our electrolyzer stacks - programming PLCs, maintaining wiring and instrumentation, and helping us build a scalable deployment architecture as we grow from 40 systems to many more. This is a role for someone who loves being close to the hardware, is comfortable picking up new tools quickly, and wants to see the direct impact of their work on real physical systems. You'll have real ownership over a critical part of our systems, at a moment when the team and the fleet are both growing fast. The problems are hard, the impact is direct, and the work is never boring. Your key responsibilities will center around: - Program and maintain PLC-based control systems (Beckhoff) on our lab and field electrolyzer units. This covers lab-scale test units of small and medium size but also includes onsite industrial-scale pilots (that are so big you need to lift them with a crane) - Wire, install, and troubleshoot sensors, actuators, and electrical panels - Work with our team to configure new systems and contribute to how we standardize deployments going forward - Collaborate with Dioxycle's software engineers to integrate HMI graphics with control logic - Participate in the retrofitting of legacy systems with new-generation PLCs - Occasionally interface with existing C-based code on older systems We're open to a few different profiles - what matters is curiosity, hands-on instinct, and a real interest in automation work. Experience with PLCs is a huge plus.
