The Data Movement team is looking to hire a Software Engineer who is excited to solve large scale data platform and efficiency challenges. Our community of users generates over 100B events per day, each of which is ingested into a data warehouse that sees 55,000+ daily queries. We utilize this data to enable both batch and streaming based ML and BI workloads at the company. Critical teams such as ads, feed generation, and ML experimentation rely on the Data Platform to generate revenue for Reddit. The Data Movement team within this group is specifically responsible for empowering the business to more efficiently process data and orchestrate these data workloads. As a software engineer, you will work with teammates and partner teams to create and improve scalable, fault tolerant, self-serve systems. You will also also: * Refine and maintain our data infrastructure technologies to support ML and analytics workflows on data collected from hundreds of millions of users. * Own the Data Movement Platform used to enable batch and stream data processing at Reddit. * Invest in building new infrastructure for Spark, Flink, and Airflow technologies at Reddit, including contributing to the open source community as needed. * Build automated solutions to minimize toilsome work for data users at Reddit and provide a declarative, self-service experience for working with data. * Collaborate with teammates to share on-call responsibilities and support monitoring/alerting to improve the reliability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Reddit’s Data Platform. Who you might be: * 2+ years of software engineering experience in a production setting writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code * Proficient in object-oriented programming languages like Python, Scala, Go, or Java. * Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing large-scale systems, diligently monitoring project progress, and showcasing proactive leadership as a self-starter on diverse projects. * Experience working with cloud services, Airflow, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Spark, Flink and/or working with modern cloud-based infrastructure. * Excellent communication skills tailored for effective collaboration within both a service-oriented team and the broader organizational context. TEAM OBJECTIVE The Business Manager team owns the foundational business platform that enables advertisers, agencies, and enterprise customers to operate effectively on Reddit. We build and scale the systems that define how businesses are created, structured, secured, governed, and shared across Reddit's Ads Platform and other Reddit surfaces. Our scope includes Business Manager, Business Hub, business identity, permissions, onboarding, collaboration, and governance capabilities. We are responsible for establishing a unified business identity model across Reddit and providing the tooling, controls, and policy frameworks that allow customers and internal teams to manage access, compliance, security, and organizational operations at scale. ABOUT THE TEAM On a day-to-day basis, engineers tackle complex, high-stakes challenges at the core of Reddit’s Ads Platform which include building business identity infrastructure, governance and access-control systems, Business Hub experiences, agency enablement capabilities, and enterprise-scale collaboration workflows. From ideation to delivery, our engineers are trusted with end-to-end ownership of their projects, working closely in cross-functional collaboration with product managers, UX designers, and partner teams. This hands-on approach means every team member plays a direct and visible role in delivering high-impact, user-focused solutions for some of Reddit’s most strategic advertisers. ROLE DESCRIPTION As a Staff Software Engineer on the Ads Business Manager team, you will develop a long-term technical strategy and drive execution. This is a high-agency position for an engineer who can navigate ambiguity and take decisive ownership of the technical direction in collaboration with other engineers, teams, and stakeholders. It is best classified as the Tech Lead archetype of Staff Engineer, and the most successful candidates will have experience serving in this capacity previously. This role needs someone with deep backend expertise who also has enough frontend experience to periodically unblock themselves.  A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL: * Define and drive the technical strategy for business identity, governance, permissions, and organizational management systems that serve both customer-facing and internal Reddit platforms. * Lead large cross-functional projects end to end, from concept, design, and implementation through to launch and driving adoption all while ensuring the highest quality and performance. * Have a strong product sense and be able to run customer interviews, translating data and user feedback into features that inform the team’s roadmap. * Mentor engineers and leaders, share industry knowledge, and contribute to the technical growth of the team. * Disambiguate complex problems, align stakeholders with different priorities, and aggressively prioritize to execute effectively. * Be able to make system level improvements, enhancements and implement complex code modifications. * Collaborate closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to drive adoption of Business Manager and Business Hub capabilities across Reddit, shaping shared business identity, governance, permissions, and organizational infrastructure used by multiple products and teams. QUALIFICATIONS General Engineering Requirements * 7+ years software engineering experience building production services at scale. * Ads domain experience. * Previous experience as a Tech Lead or similar function.  * Excellent communication skills to collaborate with a service-oriented team and company. * Experience coordinating large-scale, cross-functional efforts that span different teams, and driving alignment between diverse stakeholders. * Experience in solving complex system scaling and latency performance problems. * Strong proficiency in one or more AI tools for all steps of the development cycle. * Strong proficiency in one or more: Go, Python; plus experience with service frameworks (gRPC/Thrift) and API design. * Experience with distributed systems, data modeling, and event‑driven architectures (e.g., Kafka/PubSub). Preferred Requirements * Experience building identity, access management, governance, administration, or enterprise platform solutions for large-scale customers. * Ability to make UI changes leveraging AI tools like Codex.  * Experience building solutions for advertising agencies or other global enterprise customers.
