Looking for a workplace for the future? At Telenor, your career is truly your own. Here, you have the opportunity to shape it in the direction you aspire to, while contributing to technological innovations that today barely exist even in imagination – innovations that we know will redefine how we communicate and live our connected lives in the future. If you’re looking for a workplace where you can be part of creating what matters most – the connections between people – then welcome to Telenor. We are now looking for Datacenter Engineers to join our Database Platform function within the Datacenter Infrastructure team. How you’ll make a difference with us We are hiring two hands-on datacenter engineers focused on database platforms. You will operate and improve our ‘database hotel’ with emphasis on Oracle in Linux/Unix environments (Solaris may occur) and/or MSSQL on Windows. The role blends database operations with automation and stable infrastructure, working closely with application teams for proper service levels and change management. You will have a primary focus (your core), but you will work as part of one team jointly accountable for incidents, changes, performance, recovery and clear documentation. Automation and efficiency are part of the job regardless of core — standardizing workflows, improving repeatable tasks and using scripts/tools where it adds quality and predictability. Daily tasks will include running stable day‑to‑day operations such as installation, patching and updates, performance and capacity work, and incident handling. You will ensure compliance with all monitoring standards as well as reliable backup and restore capabilities, perform validation and recovery drills. You will also work cross‑functionally with platform and infrastructure teams (e.g., virtualization and storage) for troubleshooting and capacity planning. Standardizing and automating recurring tasks — through scripts, templates, and standard changes — as well as documenting runbooks and playbooks and sharing knowledge across the team, will be a natural part of your work. You will be expected to develop and maintain monitoring and automation scripts, including Shell scripts, PowerShell, and Ansible playbooks, to ensure predictability, quality, and efficiency in day‑to‑day operations. You will also be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of databases. We are currently looking to fill two roles within the following focus areas, or ‘cores’, in the team: 1) Oracle & Linux (Unix/Solaris may occur) In this role, you will focus on operating and improving our Oracle environments on Linux/Unix platforms. Your work will include Oracle database installation, patching, capacity and performance management, as well as ensuring reliable backup and restore processes using tools such as RMAN and Data Pump. You will also make sure that the Linux/Unix platform is correctly configured for Oracle — including filesystems, kernel parameters and required packages — and you will validate recovery capabilities through regular drills. 2) MSSQL & Windows In this role, you will focus on operating and developing our MSSQL services on Windows platforms. Your responsibilities include day‑to‑day MSSQL operations such as installation, patching, capacity planning, and performance optimization through indexes, statistics, and query tuning. You will ensure robust HA/DR and recovery capabilities using technologies such as Always On Availability Groups and log shipping, and you will regularly conduct recovery tests to verify that restoration works in practice. You will also administer Windows Server from an operational perspective and manage standard changes in virtualized environments. Are you the one we’re looking for? We need someone who’s always on their toes! You have a genuine desire to learn and develop so we can continue to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs – today and tomorrow. We are seeking hands-on candidates with solid experience in database operations and platform engineering (minimum 3 years of experience). Suitable backgrounds typically combine technical depth with structured ways of working in operational environments. Relevant educational backgrounds include, for example, Computer Science/Information Systems, IT Infrastructure/Datacenter Engineering, or specialized database and OS-focused programs. Typical previous roles may include Database Administrator/Engineer (Oracle or MSSQL), Linux/Unix or Windows Server Operations Engineer, or Infrastructure/Platform Engineer with responsibilities in virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, or automation. Both roles follow regular office hours but may require on-call duty when needed. The position is based at either our Stockholm or Karlskrona office, with the option for hybrid work. Swedish proficiency is not mandatory but seen as a plus, while strong English proficiency is required. We’d love to see We’re looking for someone who enjoys combining operations with improvements and standardization in a hands-on role and likes to automate and make work more predictable (scripts, IaC thinking where relevant). It’s valued that you work in a structured way with documentation and quality-assured changes. Having the ability to communicate clearly and collaborate well with application and adjacent platform teams. Traits that help you thrive · Structured and thorough, focused on stable and efficient workflows. · Analytical and solution-oriented. · Collaborative and communicative. · Good prioritization and calm under incidents. Apply today Ready to take the next step in your career with us? We look forward to receiving your application! We review candidates on an ongoing basis, so don’t hesitate to reach out today. If you have any questions, you’re welcome to contact the hiring manager Magnus Karlsson at magnus.karlsson@telenor.se or +46709614311. Unfortunately, we’re not able to accept applications via email.
