10% of Europe's CO₂ emissions are caused by residential heating, and energy bills are out of control. Aira is here to change that.
With our intelligent Aira Heat Pump at the heart, we're making the switch to clean energy-tech easier and more affordable. Helping
Europe turn off gas and slashing energy costs one home at a time.
Founded in 2022, and with 1000+ employees and counting, Aira is driving the clean energy revolution by providing homes with modern
clean energy-tech solutions such as solar power, battery storage solutions and heat pumps. With a state-of-the-art production
facility in Poland, an HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany, and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean
energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034.
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team.
As Aira grows, more teams rely on data to build products, make decisions and run their day-to-day operations. One of our biggest
challenges is helping teams move fast without creating unnecessary complexity for everyone else.
This role sits right in the middle of that challenge.
You'll help build, improve and scale the platform that teams across Aira depend on. Some days you'll be working on pipelines and
platform capabilities. Other days you'll be discussing architecture, helping teams solve problems or figuring out how to scale
ways of working that made sense when we were smaller.
The role combines strategic thinking, stakeholder management and hands-on engineering. If you enjoy building things while also
influencing how an organisation works with data, you'll feel at home here.
You have several years of experience within Data Engineering and have worked with production systems at scale.
You've probably seen different ways of solving similar problems, whether that's through product companies, consulting or working
across multiple teams and domains. Your background might be in data engineering, platform engineering, backend development or
infrastructure.
You're comfortable moving between implementation details, architecture discussions and conversations with stakeholders.
You understand that building a successful platform isn't only about technology. Different teams have different priorities,
constraints and ways of working. A big part of the role is helping us find solutions that work well across the organisation while
keeping things practical.
You're comfortable explaining technical trade-offs, helping teams understand why decisions matter and building support around a
shared direction.
Sometimes you'll help teams move faster. Sometimes you'll push back on an approach that creates unnecessary complexity or
long-term problems. You're comfortable doing both.
You enjoy creating structure where it's needed, but you're pragmatic enough to know when simplicity is the better option.
Most importantly, you care about building foundations that will still make sense a few years from now, not just getting something
out the door this sprint.
We're not looking for a perfect checklist match, but experience with many of the following will help you succeed:
At Aira, we champion the next-generation energy as well as diversity and inclusion. We firmly believe that a diverse workforce
fosters innovation and creativity, enhancing our ability to serve customers and communities effectively. We welcome individuals
from all backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives to join our team. Our commitment is to uphold equality and inclusivity, fostering
a collaborative environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to a better future for our people and the planet.
ABOUT THE ROLE We're hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build out our data platform from the ground up. You'll join a small, focused Platform Team and take ownership of our data infrastructure as we set up a self-service analytics capability for the entire business. The operational foundation is already in place: a serverless architecture on AWS, domain services with their own databases, and solid observability through Datadog. You'll spend your initial time at Zendr building the analytical layer - a separated data platform that decouples analytical workloads from operational databases and gives business stakeholders direct access to the metrics and data they need without filing tickets to engineering. The initial architecture direction is being defined and foundational decisions are still being shaped. You'll have real influence on technology choices, architecture patterns, and how data flows through the organization. You won't inherit a mature data stack and maintain it. You'll help design and build one. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Design and build data pipelines that move data from operational databases into a dedicated analytical data store * Own the data platform end-to-end: ingestion, transformation, storage, and the query layer that business users interact with * Set up and maintain self-service BI tooling so non-technical stakeholders can explore data independently * Define a semantic or metrics layer that gives the business consistent, trustworthy definitions of core concepts (revenue, delivery performance, customer metrics etc.) * Help make data accessible to AI workflows through connectors and integrations, with clear governance over what data is exposed and how * Integrate third-party data sources into the platform where needed * Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting * Collaborate with domain teams to understand their data, shape what gets promoted to the analytical layer, and ensure pipeline contracts are solid * Own data governance, retention, access control, and compliance practices across the platform * Co-decide on tooling and architecture with the CTO and Platform Lead as the platform evolves ABOUT YOU You're an experienced data engineer who likes to build and then live with what you've built. You're pragmatic, take ownership end-to-end, and move comfortably between deep technical work and a clear conversation with business stakeholders without hiding behind jargon. You think of yourself as an engineer first, you make smart trade-offs rather than reaching for the heaviest tool, and you care about getting things right in production — not just on a whiteboard. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * At least 5 years of data engineering experience, having both built and maintained data infrastructure in production * Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services such as S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, or Step Functions * Experience designing layered data architectures where raw data becomes trusted, queryable business data * Solid pipeline engineering skills across both streaming and batch * You've lived with systems you built, handled the edge cases, and evolved the architecture as requirements changed * Python proficiency for data engineering work * Comfort working with MongoDB or other document databases as a data source * Experience setting up BI or analytics tooling for non-technical users * You've worked in a context where you built things end-to-end rather than owning one narrow slice * Good instincts for analytical data modelling * You use AI tooling to move faster, but you know what good code looks like and can tell when an AI agent is producing something that doesn't meet the bar HIGH VALUE IF YOU ALSO BRING * MongoDB Atlas and Change Streams experience * TypeScript and/or Go (our engineering stack) * Infrastructure as Code with Pulumi * Serverless architecture experience * Event-driven data processing patterns * Datadog for monitoring and observability * Experience with making data available to LLMs or building data connectors for AI workflows * Logistics or supply chain domain knowledge ABOUT ZENDR Zendr is a fast-growing SaaS company developing cloud-based solutions for B2B freight. We take pride in our innovative platform and the passionate team that contributes to our success every day. At Zendr, collaboration and well-being are key – we offer a workplace where you can truly make an impact. We're proud of what we do and of our commitment to making our customers' work easier. We believe it's important that you feel valued, engaged, and empowered to influence our journey. At Zendr, you can grow quickly – both professionally and personally – while being part of building something meaningful. WHAT WE OFFER * A data platform being built from scratch, not inherited * Direct architectural influence alongside the CTO and Platform Lead * A modern serverless stack on AWS with MongoDB * A 70+ person company where your work is visible and matters * Interesting data problems in the logistics domain * A team that values pragmatism over theoretical purity * A competitive salary in the range of 50'–70' SEK per month, tailored to your background, skills, and previous experience, along with a locally adapted benefits package designed to support your well-being and growth OUR HIRING PROCESS We respect your time and aim to make the recruitment journey fast, transparent and enjoyable. The process may look roughly like this: * Application review – We'll review your application promptly and get back to you within a few days. * First conversation – An informal video call to learn more about you and share who we are. * Coding assignment – A task you'll be handed at this step to better understand your technical expertise. * Technical interview – A meeting discussing the assignment to better understand your reasoning and decision making. * Final meeting – Meet the team, talk through the role in detail, and see if we're the right fit for each other. Exact steps may vary slightly depending on the role and timing, but from first contact to final decision you can expect clear communication, timely feedback, and respect for your time – because great talent deserves a great candidate experience. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to get back to you promptly – please note that we're currently in the summer holiday period, which may mean slightly longer response times than usual. We'll be in touch as soon as we can. Start date: As soon as possible Scope: Full-time, permanent position Location: Stockholm or Jönköping
