The position​ The Department of Physics and Technology is thrilled to announce an opening for a PhD Fellow to join the exciting project, "Cosmic Dust Injection into the Upper Earth Atmosphere" (CODIA). The position is funded by the Research Council of Norway. The appointment is for a period of 3 years. The position is affiliated with the Space Physics group of the Department, which at present includes 5 faculty members, 5 PhD Fellows, and 1 Researcher. The objective of the position is to complete research training to the level of a doctoral degree. Admission to the PhD programme is a prerequisite for employment, and the programme period starts on commencement of the position. The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. The project​ The CODIA project is related to studies of meteoric smoke and ice particles in the mesosphere/ionosphere, cosmic dust entering the Earth’s atmosphere, meteors, and space debris. Observation methods include radar meteors and ionospheric phenomena observed with EISCAT and other instruments. We have new observational data from a rocket campaign conducted in the summer of 2025 and are planning new measurements for 2028. The successful candidate will participate in analyses of the measurements and related theory with investigations on the microphysics of dust like condensation, agglomeratiron and charge interaction. The PhD student will work together with project participants, other PhD students and Master students, as well as local, national, and international collaborators Qualifications​ To be qualified you must have a master’s degree in physics, space physics, geosciences, space engineering or a related field.  If you are near completion of your master’s degree you may still apply, provided that you submit necessary documents as mentioned in the section "How to apply".  Applicants must document fluency in English and be able to work in an international environment We are looking for candidates who have experience in one or more of the following areas: • atmospheric and ionospheric physics • space- and astrophysics • rocket or space experiments • cosmochemistry. In addition, other experience of significance for the completion of the doctoral programme may be given consideration. The position​ The PhD position is available at Department of Medical Biology on the project “The role of endothelial fenestrations in health, disease and ageing”. The position is affiliated with the Vascular Biology Research Group (VBRG) at the Faculty of Health Sciences.  The position is for a period of four years. The project / The position’s field of research​ The successful candidate will work on the project titled “Targeting endothelial fenestrations for healthy ageing”. This project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the healthy ageing.  Ageing profoundly influences the vascular system, yet the cellular mechanisms underlying this decline remain incompletely understood. This PhD project will establish how ageing affects endothelial fenestrations, and underlying mechanisms in order to provide fundamental insights into endothelial ageing and pave the way for interventions that target microvascular health to promote healthy ageing.  Advanced microscopy and imaging techniques—including super resolution optical imaging as well as electron microscopy will be central methods, together with cell and molecular biology techniques.The candidate must have a background in biomedicine and advanced imaging.  The candidate will collaborate with other researchers and supervise master- and bachelor students in on-going projects. Relevant techniques include advanced imaging (light and electron microscopy), working with research animals, primary cells of rodent origin as well basic molecular biological techniques. The position​  A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at the Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Health Sciences, with the research group for Host-Microbe Interactions. The position is a fixed term position for a duration of 3 years. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution. The project/position's field of research​ The postdoctoral fellow will be part of an emerging project area headed by Prof. Christian Lentz. Combining chemical biology, molecular biology, bacterial physiology and infection biology methods, our research is dedicated to unravel how bacterial pathogens functionally adapt to their host and antibiotics and to translate these insights to develop innovative approaches to prevent, treat and diagnose bacterial infections. In particular, we are interested in understanding: i) how single cells shape the collective function of bacterial pathogen cell populations during colonization and infection,  ii) how previously undercharacterized hydrolytic enzymes and dynamic changes in chemical modifications of the biomolecular landscape of bacterial cells contribute to bacterial physiology, pathogenesis and drug susceptibility,  iii) understanding and modelling pathogenesis and treatment failure of difficult-to-treat clinical infections. The main model organisms used in our team are Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. We seek a highly motivated, research-minded candidate, with a strong academic track-record and complementary research interests and expertise. The project will be tailored to the successful candidate, and the postdoctoral fellow is encouraged to develop their own research ideas and strategies within the framework of the project.
