Role Summary Build and maintain data-driven end-use demand models across global metals markets, translating sector-level insights into actionable views for trading and investment. Core Responsibilities 1. Demand Modelling * Develop bottom-up end-use demand models (starting with China, then globally and covering major regional markets) across key sectors (e.g. real estate, transportation, power generation and distribution, infrastructure, data centres / AI, appliances). * Conduct intensity analysis and forward demand projections, adjusting for cyclical effects (e.g. demand destruction vs deferral). * Track inventories across the value chain using semi-finished and end-use data. * Analyse capacity across end-use sectors to consume scrap vs refined metals. 1. Data Integration & Monitoring * Build scalable data pipelines integrating national statistics, industry data, company disclosures, and alternative data (e.g. shipping, customs, satellite). * Generate model outputs programmatically, incorporating real-time and high-frequency macro data. * Develop dashboards to present key high-frequency indicators in a clear, actionable format. 1. Market Analysis & Insights * Identify market inefficiencies and relative value opportunities across commodities and regions. * Perform scenario analysis incorporating macro, policy, and geopolitical factors. * Support trading and portfolio positioning with timely, data-driven insights. Key Requirements Experience & Knowledge * 5+ years’ experience in metals/commodity research, with strong focus on first-use and end-use demand. * Deep understanding of downstream sectors and global metals value chains. * Familiarity with scrap markets, trade flows, and industry dynamics. Technical Skills * Advanced Python programming (model development, data pipelines). * Strong SQL proficiency. * Experience working with large, multi-source datasets and real-time data systems. Other Skills * Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. * Ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. * Excellent communication skills (written and verbal, English).

Our China Commodities desk trades a broad range of products across China's commodity markets, spanning energy, precious metals, and base metals. Combining market expertise, research, and technology, we identify and capture opportunities across one of the world's most significant commodity ecosystems. As we continue to expand this business, we are looking for an experienced Commodities Trader to develop and execute China-focused trading strategies. Working closely with analysts, quantitative researchers, and technologists, you will help identify opportunities, manage risk, and drive the growth of the desk. Your Core Responsibilities: * Develop, execute, and scale profitable trading strategies across Chinese commodities markets (e.g., energy, precious metals, base metals). * Trade futures and related derivatives on major Chinese exchanges (SHFE, DCE, ZCE, INE, GFEX) and relevant offshore venues. * Integrate fundamental research, macroeconomic analysis, and geopolitical developments into trading decisions. * Partner closely with the Commodities Analyst team to incorporate insights on supply/demand dynamics, inventory trends, shipping flows, regulatory developments, and government policy into actionable strategies. * Identify and position around upcoming market catalysts, volatility events, and structural dislocations. * Generate directional and volatility-driven trade ideas based on global and domestic Chinese market intelligence. * Work alongside quantitative researchers and technologists to refine execution, enhance data-driven decision-making, and scale systematic components of strategies. * Actively manage risk, including exposure to macro events, liquidity shifts, regulatory changes, and cross-border dynamics. * Contribute to continuous improvement of research frameworks, dashboards, and trading tools in collaboration with the Analyst and technology teams. Your Skills and Experience: * Proven track record trading Chinese and/or global commodities futures and derivatives with consistent risk-adjusted returns. * Strong understanding of Chinese commodity markets, macroeconomic drivers, and geopolitical influences. * Deep knowledge of Chinese exchange rules, margin frameworks, and regulatory environment. * Demonstrated ability to translate fundamental and macro analysis into clear trading positioning. * Experience collaborating with analysts, quantitative researchers, and developers in a data-driven trading environment. * Strong risk management discipline and ability to trade around event-driven volatility. * Familiarity with Python, SQL, Bloomberg, or other analytics platforms is advantageous. * Ability to operate decisively in a fast-paced, competitive trading environment.
