Role Summary  Build and maintain data-driven end-use demand models across global metals markets, translating sector-level insights into actionable views for trading and investment.    Core Responsibilities  1. Demand Modelling  * Develop bottom-up end-use demand models (starting with China, then globally and covering major regional markets) across key sectors (e.g. real estate, transportation, power generation and distribution, infrastructure, data centres / AI, appliances).  * Conduct intensity analysis and forward demand projections, adjusting for cyclical effects (e.g. demand destruction vs deferral).  * Track inventories across the value chain using semi-finished and end-use data.  * Analyse capacity across end-use sectors to consume scrap vs refined metals.    1. Data Integration & Monitoring * Build scalable data pipelines integrating national statistics, industry data, company disclosures, and alternative data (e.g. shipping, customs, satellite).  * Generate model outputs programmatically, incorporating real-time and high-frequency macro data.  * Develop dashboards to present key high-frequency indicators in a clear, actionable format.  1. Market Analysis & Insights * Identify market inefficiencies and relative value opportunities across commodities and regions.  * Perform scenario analysis incorporating macro, policy, and geopolitical factors.  * Support trading and portfolio positioning with timely, data-driven insights.    Key Requirements  Experience & Knowledge  * 5+ years’ experience in metals/commodity research, with strong focus on first-use and end-use demand.  * Deep understanding of downstream sectors and global metals value chains.  * Familiarity with scrap markets, trade flows, and industry dynamics.  Technical Skills  * Advanced Python programming (model development, data pipelines).  * Strong SQL proficiency.  * Experience working with large, multi-source datasets and real-time data systems.  Other Skills  * Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.  * Ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.  * Excellent communication skills (written and verbal, English).

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be the technical lead in a team of talented and diverse software engineers leading the project execution to improve Airbnb customers and agents experience. You will lead the team and work with global technical leaders to build and evolute CS engineering foundations, such as Routing, Data platform, Case management, foundational toolings etc   A Typical Day:  * Collaborating with cross-functional partners to deeply understand business problems before developing project solutions. * Leading the execution of projects across the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring solutions are high-quality, scalable, and performant;  * Driving productive and constructive technical discussions with peers and cross-team technical leaders in the global collaborative working environment, to ensure alignments with technical strategies across CS products and capabilities. * Tackling highly complex technical challenges, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks during project execution. * Writing exemplary and high-quality codes and design documents that set the standard for the team. * Advocating for and embedding engineering best practices within the team, ensuring a culture of technical excellence. * Actively coaching and mentoring engineers across the CSP China team to foster growth and elevate technical capabilities. * Supporting team growth by participating in recruiting efforts and conducting interviews. * Promoting and exemplifying an engineering culture with inclusiveness, effective communication, and quality.  * Being a collaborative and supportive teammate who inspires and elevates the entire engineering organization.   Your Expertise: * 9+ years of software development experience. * Strong proficiency in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python); experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) are preferred but not a must. * Proven track record of delivering end-to-end products in a collaborative environment globally. * Experience with architectural patterns of large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms. * Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions, articulate technical trade-offs, and communicate effectively with cross-functional partners. * Passion for creating intuitive user experiences and a keen interest in data systems and analytics. * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. * Fluent in both English and Chinese.   Your Location: This position is China - Remote Eligible. The Integrated Knowledge Management team is responsible for building robust and scalable platforms that enable Airbnb’s content and knowledge to be leveraged across internal and external users, and to serve as the authoritative knowledge source for AI-powered applications and support surfaces. The Difference You Will Make: As an AI Engineer on the Integrated Knowledge Management team, you will help build out our next-generation Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platform and AI-powered support surfaces such as the Help Center. You will be deeply involved in building highly available and scalable services in close collaboration with engineering, ML/AI, product, content, data science and operations teams to meet the ever-evolving needs of Airbnb’s Community Support Engineering group. Many problems exist in this domain including expanding our RAG systems to support new knowledge and solution sources, building the capabilities required for Airbnb’s expanding suite of AI-powered contextual in-product support applications, and implementing ways to improve velocity around experimentation and evaluation. A Typical Day:  * Collaborate with global cross-functional working groups (frontend/backend/ML engineers, design, product and operational teams) to design and build end-to-end AI powered product solutions to improve Airbnb’s customer service experience.  * Use AI tooling to analyze data, build hypotheses, experiment, learn and iterate to improve the Integrated Knowledge Management services. * Optimize system availability, performance, and scalability while pushing enhancements for improved efficiency. * Advocate and participate in efforts to advance Airbnb’s engineering processes, technical foundations, and AI tooling. Your Expertise: * 3+ years of industry experience directly contributing to the design, implementation, evaluation, and operation of AI-powered applications. * Strong proficiency in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python) * Proven track record of delivering AI-powered backend solutions in a collaborative environment, from ideation and planning to implementation and launch. * Experience with architectural patterns of large-scale systems, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms. * Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions, articulate technical trade-offs, and communicate effectively with cross-functional partners. * BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field * Ability to communicate proficiently in English in a professional setting. * Nice to have: Recent industry experience building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, search, retrieval and ranking systems to power end-to-end AI-powered products, or Agentic Systems.
