Duties The candidate should within the subject area develop and lead internationally prominent research with a focus on crop production develop, strategically lead and participate in teaching at first, second and third cycle level primarily teach within the MSc in Engineering programmes at SLU, but also contribute to other educational components at first, second and third cycle level where the subject is included supervise doctoral students develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant public authorities, industry, organisations and society at large apply for external research funding contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU communicate research findings and other relevant information to society at large perform administrative duties within the department, the faculty, and the university Swedish and English are used in parallel at the department. The senior lecturer should be able to perform the majority of their tasks in English. However, as a public authority, the university has Swedish as its main language according to the requirements of the Language Act and the appointee is expected to be able to communicate in Swedish within four years of taking up the position. The department will support the appointee in achieving this. Institutionen för molekylära vetenskaper, SLU Uppsala söker en universitetslektor (Senior Lecturer) inom ämnet livsmedelsbioteknologi. Institutionen består i dag av ca 90 medarbetare och bildar tillsammans med tre andra institutioner en inspirerande forskningsmiljö vid Biocentrum på Ultuna Campus, Uppsala. Institutionen inrymmer flera samverkande områden som livsmedelsvetenskap, bioteknologi, mikrobiologi, oorganisk, fysikalisk och organisk kemi, biokemi, molekylär strukturbiologi, och naturproduktkemi. Forskningen kretsar kring tillämpade och grundläggande biologiska och kemiska processer. Institutionen samarbetar även med industriella partners kring utveckling av innovationer av betydelse för omställningen mot ett hållbart samhälle. Forskningsområdet livsmedelsbioteknologi bedriver forskning och utbildning inom hållbar livs- och fodermedelsproduktion, cirkulär ekonomi och mikroorganismers grundläggande fysiologi och genetik, som bas för att etablera nya bioteknologiska processer för livsmedel och andra biokemikalier. Institutionens forskning inom ämnet omfattar både traditionella fermenterade livsmedel och introduktion av nya råmaterial i livsmedelskedjan. Använda metoder innefattar tillämpad mikrobiologi, avancerad mikrobiell fysiologi, fermenteringsteknik samt nedströmsprocessering av mikrobiell biomassa, med fokus (dock inte uteslutande) på jäst, andra mikrosvampar samt mikrobiella konsortier. Institutionen har avancerad infrastruktur, bland annat modern fermenteringsutrustning, livsmedelsgodkända laboratorier, -omicsplattformar, växtodlingsanläggningar, avancerad mikroskopi och molekylärbiologiska faciliteter samt spektroskopi, inklusive NMR-spektroskopi. Institutionen deltar även i det nationella initiativet SwedNMR.
