Our mission is simple: help every pet live their happiest, healthiest life by connecting pet parents with licensed vets through seamless virtual visits. We’re the only veterinary telemedicine service that can diagnose, prescribe, and ship medications directly to customers in most states. For less than $100 per year, Dutch offers real relief and convenience for pets and their families. As one customer put it: “Dutch was the only site that would diagnose and prescribe meds as well as ship the meds.” Here’s what other customers have said about Dutch Vet: "The easiest vet visit you'll ever have.” "More thorough than my in-person vet.” "No nonsense, quick, easy and friendly veterinarian. Much cheaper than our regular local vet that couldn’t get us in. So glad I found Dutch!" Backed by world-class investors including Forerunner Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and Bling Capital, our team is made-up of successful startup founders (Hims, PlushCare, Nasty Gal) with expertise in scaling enterprises (TripAdvisor, Walmart, BARK). Featured in TechCrunch, Forbes, Wired, and Axios, Dutch is setting the standard for quality, accessibility, and compassion in pet care. THE ROLE Most data teams report on the business. Ours builds with it. We're shipping LLM-generated clinical content, agentic assistants, and recommendation systems behind the tools pet parents actually use. This role is a split between data platform architecture and AI infrastructure. Half your time will go toward scaling our Snowflake environment, building semantic layers, and managing clinical data pipelines. The other half will go toward building the backend runtime systems that safely execute our LLM features in production. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, but you will be expected to set the technical standard for the team and mentor the engineers and analysts already here. You will report directly to the VP of Data & AI.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to define the backend foundations for Asana’s next-generation AI chat products. Chat Platform owns the intelligence and shared infrastructure behind the conversation—from tool selection and evaluation to observability and product enablement APIs—so teams across Asana can ship fast without rebuilding the same systems. The Infrastructure team builds the foundation that supports our web and mobile applications and our robust API. We build and operate the software that enables Asana’s security, scalability, and speed. Each day, we combine industry best practices and innovation to support this product-focused company. If you like working on shared abstractions, hard product-quality problems, and fast-moving AI systems, this role sits at that intersection. This role is based in our Vancouver office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams you partner with. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements. WHAT YOU’LL ACHIEVE * Design, build, and evolve the backend platform that enables chat- and agent-powered product experiences across Asana, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and extensibility. * Build shared APIs, services, and abstractions that help product teams ship chat experiences more quickly and consistently without re-solving the same infrastructure problems. * Partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and peer AI engineering teams to translate product needs into durable platform capabilities and pragmatic technical roadmaps. * Improve the performance, observability, and operational quality of systems that support enterprise-grade chat experiences, including areas like latency, availability, state management, and debugging. Raise the effectiveness of the team by mentoring other engineers, improving technical design and planning practices, and proactively identifying opportunities to simplify systems and increase engineering leverage. Develop Asana’s AI Evaluation platform, applying frontier practices in agent evaluation to ensure our AI products are reliable, accurate, and high-performing. ABOUT YOU * Demonstrates fluency with AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making. * 5+ years of full-time professional software development experience, including experience owning and delivering medium-to-large technical projects. * Strong backend engineering fundamentals and experience building reliable, maintainable distributed systems in production. * Proven ability to navigate complex architectural boundaries and collaborate cross-functionally with Infrastructure and Frontend teams. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you are defining a new category of Work Management. * Strong instincts for production quality, including observability, testing, rollout safety, performance, and operational excellence. Lead with ownership and initiative: you identify ambiguity, propose practical paths forward, and help teams make steady progress through changing requirements. At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply. WHAT WE’LL OFFER Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit. For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $176,000 - $200,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified. In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits. If you're interviewing for this role, speak with your recruiter to learn more about the total compensation and benefits for this role. We strive to provide equitable and competitive benefits packages that support our employees worldwide and include: * Mental health, wellness & fitness benefits * Career coaching & support * Inclusive family building benefits * Long-term savings or retirement plans * In-office culinary options to cater to your dietary preferences These are just some of the benefits we offer, and benefits may vary based on role, country, and local regulations. If you're interviewing for this role, speak with your recruiter to learn more about the total compensation and benefits for this role. #LI-Hybrid About us Asana is a leading platform for human + AI collaboration.
