LotusWorks is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, integral to our people-first approach.  We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer Lead to oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of mechanical commissioning activities for a datacenter. In this leadership role, you will provide technical guidance and mentorship to commissioning engineers and field teams while serving as the primary point of contact for mechanical commissioning activities on assigned systems and projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical commissioning professional with extensive experience in mission-critical facilities who can lead by example, drive project execution, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure all systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and client expectations. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams to deliver successful project outcomes. RESPONSIBILITIES: Pre-Construction & Design Review * Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance to commissioning engineers and field personnel. * Review Issued for Construction drawings, specifications, and Owner standards to identify QC risk areas including clarity, tolerances, and acceptance criteria. * Review and comment on shop drawings, submittals, method statements, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for compliance. * Validate material control and traceability plans (serial numbers, batch numbers, long-lead items). * Lead commissioning planning meetings and coordinate activities across multiple disciplines to ensure project milestones are achieved. * Produce deliverables: Design QC risk register, annotated submittal comments, and list of critical inspections and witness points. * Support project managers with schedule planning, resource allocation, and progress reporting to ensure successful project execution. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) & Factory Inspections * Plan and witness FAT and factory inspections for critical mechanical equipment, including: * Chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, and associated controls * Prefab/modular mechanical skids * Verify test procedures, instrumentation calibration, acceptance criteria, and corrective actions. * Confirm firmware versions, settings, and as-built configurations match approved submittals. * Produce deliverables: FAT reports (with photos), deviations/NCRs, and vendor punchlist closure documentation. Daily Site QC Inspections * Implement and manage daily QC inspections per approved ITPs across all mechanical scopes. * Inspect piping cleanliness and flushing procedures. * Conduct and document hydrostatic tests. * Perform weld inspections to applicable code standards. * Verify insulation thickness and quality. * Check equipment alignment and vibration isolation. * Enforce Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) programs for mechanical spaces. * Validate mock-ups, first-of-kind installations, and hold points before production work proceeds. * Conduct materials receiving inspection (damage, compliance, certificates). * Issue and track NCRs; verify corrective actions and re-inspection. Fire & Life Safety – Mechanical Scope * Inspect suppression agent quantities and detection zoning. * Witness and document pre-action system tests. * Verify penetration firestopping and signage compliance. Commissioning Witnessing & Verification * Witness and document pre-functional checks and functional performance tests for mechanical systems (Level 1–4; Level 5 IST where applicable). * Confirm test preconditions, lockouts/tagouts, sequencing, failover, and restoration align with commissioning scripts. * Validate setpoints, alarms, and interlocks against approved matrices. * Participate in lessons learned after each commissioning milestone. * Maintain commissioning QC punchlist, discrepancy log, re-test verification, and sign-off recommendations. Documentation & Reporting * Maintain a QC document control repository: inspection forms, evidence (photos, videos), material certificates, weld logs, test reports, and calibration certificates. * Provide as-built QC dossier aligned with Owner standards for handover. * Prepare final QC report summarising compliance, NCR trends, corrective actions, and residual risk. * Submit daily QC logs by 9:00 AM the following day. * Issue weekly summary reports (NCR status, upcoming hold points, risks, mitigation). * Produce monthly trend analysis (defects by system/subcontractor, leading indicators). * Utilise QC forms and logs in ACC; photo/geo-tagging via Owner ACC; secure file exchange per Owner policy. * Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role. SKILLS REQUIRED: * Minimum of 5 years of experience in commissioning within mission critical sectors. * Experience leading commissioning activities and teams, system walkdowns, and turnover coordination. * Strong understanding of mechanical systems and commissioning processes. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation. * Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills in a fast-paced field environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Execute mechanical commissioning activities for data center and mission-critical projects. * Ensure systems meet design intent, operational requirements, and client expectations. * Develop commissioning plans, procedures, pre-functional checklists (PFCs), and functional performance tests (FPTs). * Review drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, identify design risks, and validate mechanical QA/QC documentation. * Perform field inspections to verify installation compliance, identify deficiencies, and track corrective actions through completion. * Commission mechanical systems including chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, heat exchangers, expansion tanks, water treatment systems, HVAC controls, BAS integration, ventilation, pressurization, containment systems, and associated mechanical equipment. * Verify equipment startup readiness, witness vendor startups, and validate system performance under normal, maintenance, and failure operating conditions. * Participate in integrated systems testing (IST), validate redundancy (N+1, 2N, 2N+1), verify sensor calibration and control sequences, and support BAS/BMS integration, alarms, safeties, interlocks, and system functionality. * Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, QA/QC, TAB, controls, vendors, and client teams to support project milestones and system turnover. * Maintain commissioning documentation including commissioning logs, deficiency reports, startup records, TAB reviews, progress reports, systems manuals, O&M documentation, and turnover packages. * Support client witness testing, operator training, project closeout, and successful system turnover. * Ensure compliance with LOTO, safety procedures, job hazard analysis (JHA), pre-task planning (PTP), and commissioning best practices while promoting a safe work environment. SKILLS REQUIRED: * 2+ years of mechanical commissioning experience in data center or mission-critical environments. * Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, and critical cooling systems. * Experience executing commissioning activities through all project phases. * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. * Familiarity with BAS/BMS systems, TAB processes, and integrated systems testing. * Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional project teams.
