Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings go up in a single day, with minimal labour. We're a growing team of engineers, operators and technicians from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, Meta and Google DeepMind. It's still the early days of building the company, and this is a chance to make an outsized impact on a problem that matters. From day one, you’ll be working with an experienced founding team, backed by a $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures and Plural. Monumental is based in the city centre of Amsterdam, in a beautiful facility with an fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor. We build the whole stack in-house - hardware and software, we're explicitly not a hybrid or remote-first company - you can't build robots or walls from home, so we're onsite five days a week. Read more on why we believe you should spend your time working on construction, and learn about our vision and company. You might enjoy Based in Europe’s film on how we’re fixing Europe’s housing shortage, or this video by Andreas Klinger of what our office looks like. About the role We’re looking for an Electronics Engineer to join our hardware team. You’ll support our mechatronics engineers and collaborate closely with both hardware and software teams as we develop the next generation of autonomous construction robots. In this role, you’ll contribute directly to prototyping, testing, and refining the electronics that power our robotic systems. From autonomous vehicles and cranes, to tools and sensors, you’ll work across motor control, power, sensing, and communications. You’ll be involved in hands-on engineering tasks such as building test circuits, validating sensor integrations, supporting field tests, and debugging hardware issues. You’ll also help improve and maintain our growing fleet, learning from failures and iterating quickly on both designs and processes. For more context on building hardware at Monumental, read Niall’s Substack on why he quit his job and moved country to make robots to fix Europe’s housing crisis. What you’ll do * Supporting the prototyping and development of electronic systems for our autonomous construction robots and related equipment. * Working closely with senior engineers to build and test early-stage hardware, helping turn ideas and schematics into functioning systems. * Electronics testing and debugging, validating new and revised designs to uncover issues and help with remediation. * Iterating on prototypes back in the workshop: turning test results and engineering feedback into concrete design revisions across sensors, power, motor control, and communication hardware. * Joining the team on-site for field trials and deployments, instrumenting systems and capturing data on how they actually behave in real construction conditions. * Maintaining and occasionally troubleshooting our current robot fleet, ensuring systems are ready for deployment and in good working order. * Supporting the team with light electronics assembly and wiring tasks as needed during development. * PCB design and PCBA preparation: taking prototype setups into board designs for the next stage, and revising and improving existing production boards. What we’re looking for * A BSc, MBO, HBO, or similar in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or another relevant technical field), with solid experience and some great projects in their portfolio. * A strong foundation in electronics fundamentals, with hands-on experience through coursework, labs, or personal projects. * Familiarity with prototyping and testing circuits, and basic skills in soldering, wiring, and assembling test setups. * Tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and lab power supplies to debug and test subsystems and components are second nature to you. * Able to read existing schematics and under how components fit into a complete system. * Eager to learn in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where engineering and field testing go hand in hand. * Experience with BLDC motor control is a strong plus. Driving, commutating, or tuning brushless motors, whether from coursework, labs, or personal projects. * Experience with RF and wireless communications is a strong plus too, particularly UWB tracking and positioning, but also BLE, ZigBee, or general RF integration. * Familiarity with Altium ECAD is a nice plus, but not a requirement. Why Monumental? Joining Monumental means being at the forefront of a movement aimed at making significant strides in the construction industry. Here, your work has the potential to impact not just the company but the future of how we build. If you're driven by innovation, eager to tackle complex challenges, and ready to make a tangible difference, we want to hear from you. For open applications (where you don’t see an exact role match), please reach out to us at: iwanttojoin@monumental.co - share with us the most interesting or challenging project you’ve worked on, why you want to join and your CV or portfolio. Unfortunately we do not currently support internships. If you don’t meet all the qualifications here but are excited about Monumental and feel you’d still be able to help us solve difficult problems, do get in touch. We welcome generalists who focus on outcomes and are eager to learn on the job.

ABOUT BLACK FOREST LABS We’re the team behind Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and FLUX—foundational technologies that changed how the world creates images and video. We’re creating the generative models that power how people make images and video—tools used by millions of creators, developers, and businesses worldwide. Our FLUX models are among the most advanced in the world, and we’re just getting started. Headquartered in Freiburg, Germany with a growing presence in San Francisco, we’re scaling fast while staying true to what makes us different: research excellence, open science, and building technology that expands human creativity. WHY THIS ROLE We're hiring a Forward Deployed, Robotics Engineer to put our models into the hands of our most important robotics and physical-AI customers. This is a high-ownership, build-in-public role: you'll embed with customers, ship real integrations on their robots, and feed what you learn straight back into our models and roadmap. We care more about slope than years on a CV. If you've shipped robot-learning systems that real people use, in research, open source, or production; and you love being close to both the hardware and the customer, we want to hear from you, even if your background doesn't match every line below. WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON * Partner with customers to design and ship integrations, finetunes, and interfaces on top of BFL's models, including our action / VLA models from first prototype to production. * Get models running well in the customer's environment: strong latency and output quality on real robots, across on-prem and BFL-hosted deployments, including real-time and on-device / edge constraints. * Find the highest-value use cases with customers and prototype solutions fast. * Identify and own opportunities to expand BFL's technologies into new domains * Prototype novel techniques from recent research papers in close collaboration with our research team WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Proven track record as a robotics engineer, forward deployed engineer or technical founder * Experience working directly with customers, iterating on solutions and providing tailored support for serving generative AI models * Hands-on experience with action / VLA models and the surrounding open ecosystem (e.g. π0/π0.5, LeRobot), including imitation/reinforcement learning or policy learning * Ability to work on a broad class of engineering problems, from model hosting and backend engineering to building intuitive frontends and UI * Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders internally and externally, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms to both technical and non-technical audiences WHILE NOT REQUIRED, IT’S AN ADDED PLUS IF YOU ALSO HAVE: * Prior knowledge about diffusion models and/or flow matching, and relevant fine tuning and distillation techniques * Experience with inference optimizations for transformer based machine learning models * Proven ability to architect solutions in complex enterprise environments * Contributed to open-source projects, in particular in the space of diffusion models, robotics, or simulation * Experience with cloud platforms and state of the art deployment solutions HOW WE WORK TOGETHER We’re a distributed team with real offices that people actually use. Depending on your role, you’ll either join us in Freiburg or SF at least 2 days a week (or one full week every other week), or work remotely with a monthly in-person week to stay connected. We’ll cover reasonable travel costs to make this possible. We think in-person time matters, and we’ve structured things to make it accessible to all. We’ll discuss what this will look like for the role during our interview process. Everything we do is grounded in four values: * Obsessed. We are a frontier research lab. The science has to be right, the understanding deep, the product beautiful. * Low Ego. The work speaks. The best idea wins, no matter who said it. Credit is shared. Nobody is above any task. * Bold. We take the ambitious bet. We ship, we do not wait for conditions to be perfect. * Kind. People over politics. We treat each other with genuine warmth. Agency without empathy creates chaos. If this sounds like work you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you. Base Annual Salary: EU €120,000- €180,000 + Equity
