The opportunity We are looking for an engaging and driven person to lead the power quality R&D team with focus on Control of Power Quality solutions. The team consists of highly skilled technical experts. You will be part of Grid & Power Quality Solutions and report to the Global R&D Manager for Power Quality. This is a visible role in a truly global and cross-functional environment, at the cutting edge of technology. How you’ll make an impact You will be responsible for line management and the development of the team and team members. Further, as manager and resource owner, you will lead and distribute work tasks, support the team and the project managers to drive the projects, implement existing and further develop efficient work processes to increase productivity as well as preparing annual budget and follow up execution. You will ensure prompt and regular reporting on the project’s status and take proactive action in case of any deviation from the agreed baseline. In the role you will collaborate directly with other R&D teams, receiving units and engineering teams around the world. In R&D, you will encourage and support the team to challenge existing technology, propose projects and processes contributing to the global plans and processes. The team involvement ranges from technology scouting and assessment, technology development including working with intellectual properties to product development and product maintenance and improvements. Your background You have relevant engineering background combined with a few years of experience of product development and team management. Higher formal education in relevant fields will be meriting. Experience in control of power electronics and preferably FACTS / HVDC / Substations. It is highly advantageous if you have worked with the MACH-platform previously. You have a deep sense of ownership to deliver the assigned targets and are skilled at managing different types of people and able to coach as well as motivate and inspire others. The opportunity We are seeking a Global Product Specialist – Power Electronics Platform for Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service (GPQSS) to join our GPQSS Product Management team, with a dedicated focus on product management of the power electronics Operational Technology (OT) stack of GPQSS solutions. The OT consists of control hardware, control firmware, HMI, application software, design tools, and simulation models, among others. As part of a Global Product Management team, you will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of the OT layers to ensure the proper functioning of the power electronics OT stack, driving secure integration of modules, tools, applications and models, as well as the interoperability of all the components. Subject description The research subject Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production of electrical energy, transport of electrical energy and the interaction between the power grid, electricity production and electricity consumption. Duties Associate Professors are normally expected to be engaged in the university's education, pedagogical development activities, and research. Responsibilities also include keeping abreast of international developments within the discipline and supervising doctoral students. The opportunity HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group within Hitachi Energy that develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and to connect offshore wind farms to the grid. In the field of power quality, the subject enjoys a strong international reputation thanks to its world-leading research. Subject description Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production and transpor-tation of electrical energy, and the interaction between power grid, electricity production, and electricity consumption. Project description The project aims to develop models that describe how HVDC installations affect, and are af-fected by, power quality in electrical networks up to 150 kHz. Measurements will be used to further develop existing models and to distinguish between primary and secondary emissions as well as nonlinear interactions. The results will provide the basis for a generalized model of emission and immunity related to HVDC installations.The study will also investigate network resonances, interactions between multiple HVDC in-stallations, and the effects on transformers and other grid-connected equipment. The project is carried out in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Hitachi Energy. Duties A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in scientific research through the publication of journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences. You will also complete both mandatory and elective doctoral courses. In addition, you may have the opportunity to gain teaching experience. As a researcher, you often work as a neutral party in various contexts, providing an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage and contribute to challenging development and research projects. Your work will primarily focus on theoretical modeling and simulations, although laboratory and field measurements may also form part of the research activities. Qualifications You are qualified to apply for this position if you have an MSc or equivalent technical degree with specialization appropriate for research in electrical power engineering such as electrical engineering, electronics, energy, engineering physics or similar areas.
