How do you inspect a reactor component through liquid lead, a coolant you cannot see through? No standard procedure exists for it yet, and none will until someone works out how ultrasound behaves in lead and builds a method around it. We are looking for a Level III in UT who wants to work this out together with us. You start the development and shape the technical roadmap with the team: what to investigate, with which techniques (PAUT, TOFD, TFM, EMAT and related), and in what order. You work on our test rigs and with partners, turn the data into better methods, and build the technical basis for the procedures and acceptance criteria. With your Level III competence in UT, you also support and guide the Level II technicians who will apply them. You are our main technical contact towards UT suppliers, and you collaborate with welding, materials, design and quality so that components are inspectable by design. WHAT WE DO AT BLYKALLA Blykalla is developing the next generation of nuclear technology with our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) based on innovative fuel, materials, and reactor designs. As Sweden’s only SMR developer, we are on a mission to decarbonize industries and enable safe, scalable, and sustainable energy solutions. Our technology uses uranium nitride fuel and lead coolant, creating novel challenges and opportunities for the fuel cycle and supporting systems. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO As Senior NDT R&D Engineer, you connect the method, the data and the evidence that it works. You help shape what gets developed and in which order, work with our team and partners on the test rigs, and make sure each method is validated before it goes into use. Your responsibilities will include: Method Development & Roadmap * Shape and maintain the UT method roadmap for NDE and In-Service Inspection together with the team, focused on through-lead acoustics: what is developed, in which order, and to what maturity. * Develop and adapt UT techniques (PAUT, TOFD, TFM, EMAT and others) to our geometries, materials and operating conditions, working from first principles where needed. * Draft UT procedures and acceptance criteria for LFR components, with input from welding, materials and quality. Testing, Data & Validation * Plan and run trials, mock-ups and reference samples on components, welds and base materials, on our test rigs or with partners, and join hands-on where a method needs it. * Interpret signals, characterise defects, and use signal processing and frequency-domain analysis to improve probe setup, calibration, procedures and sensitivity. * Document the evidence that each method performs as intended, and look after the integrity of inspection data. Level III Responsibilities * Approve and release validated UT procedures and acceptance criteria under the written practice. * Authorise Level II personnel, guide and mentor them, and maintain the written practice for UT. Suppliers, Partners & Team * Be our main technical contact for UT suppliers: screen and test their solutions, share findings, and give the technical decision and recommendation for selection. * Work together with research institutes, universities and our welding, materials, design and quality teams, so that components are inspectable by design. * Support documentation for codes and standards (ASME, ISO) and for customer and regulatory dialogue. WHERE THIS ROLE CAN TAKE YOU You will help shape how SEALER components are inspected, from the first test rig to fleet deployment. As the NDE and In-Service Inspection area grows, the role grows with it: into Responsible Level III for NDE and In-Service Inspection, with dedicated NDT R&D engineers joining the team to build the methods further together with you. WHO YOU ARE You are a curious, thoughtful engineer who enjoys turning an inspection problem into a method, and a method into data the team can trust. You bring technical depth, practical UT experience and a structured way of working, and you are not afraid to ask a supplier the critical question and check the answer against the data. We believe you have: * ISO 9712 Level 3 in UT (or equivalent, for example SNT-TC-1A Level III), with experience maintaining a written practice and guiding Level II technicians. * Practical UT experience in a regulated industry (aerospace, oil & gas, nuclear, power generation or pressure equipment), including at least one advanced technique (PAUT, TOFD, TFM or EMAT), and familiarity with ASME, ISO and industry NDT codes. * Experience in method development or inspection R&D, and the curiosity to work out a method from first principles when no standard procedure applies. * A good understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation and signal processing in the time and frequency domain. * An engineering or scientific degree (mechanical, materials, physics, acoustics or similar). * Clear communication and good collaboration with engineering, quality, suppliers and research partners. It is a plus if you also have: * A PhD. * Experience with test rigs or advanced inspection set-ups, and in working together with suppliers to evaluate their equipment. * Data analysis in Python or MATLAB, and NQA-1 or AS9100 experience. * Additional methods such as ET, or inspection experience with hazardous or high-temperature media such as liquid metal. LOCATION The position is based in Stockholm, with travel to Oskarshamn and partners expected.
Every design choice in our SEALER reactor needs evidence that it works. As Test & Validation Engineer for SEALER-E, our research setup at the Advanced Reactor Test Site in Oskarshamn, you shape the tests that provide it: you plan the tests, write the test plans and assess the results. Our product development follows the V-model, with a gate review at each stage. You make sure every gate rests on evidence the project can trust. You work side by side with the V&V Architect and a project team guided by a Project Manager, while our Commissioning and Test Engineers run the tests on site. This role ensures that SEALER technologies progress from concept to deployable system in a coherent, traceable, and strategically well-aligned way. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO As Test & Validation Engineer, you connect requirements, tests and evidence along the V-model. On the left side you shape the test programme and the test plans together with the system / design engineers. On the right side you assess the results and help the project close its gate reviews. Tests range from thermal-hydraulics and mechanical components to instrumentation and system integration. Your responsibilities will include: Test Programme & Test Matrix * Build the test programme and test matrix for SEALER-E together with the technology domain owners, based on the Design Verification Plan, the Technology Maturation Plans and the failure modes and risks from the safety assessment. * Sort tests into development, verification, qualification and demonstration tests, and link each to a V-model stage. * Agree on instrumentation and data needs with I&C, and plan how the test rigs contribute evidence to the project. Test Plans & Campaigns * Write test specifications and plans with objectives, conditions, acceptance criteria and stop points, together with the system / design engineers and safety. * Coordinate each test campaign from the project planning side: scope, sequence and readiness for cold and hot commissioning. Hand the plan over to the Commissioning and Test Engineer who runs the campaign on site, and stay available for questions, deviations and changes. * Review test data, deviations and uncertainty after each test, and write the test report with conclusions, follow-up actions and feedback to design. Verification, Validation & Gate Reviews * Review requirements early to make sure they can be verified, and choose the verification and validation method for each: inspection, analysis, test or demonstration. * Take accountability for the verification and validation sign-off at each gate review, based on evidence that is sufficient, valid and traceable. * Keep the evidence record up to date from requirement to test result, raise open gaps early and route them into change and corrective action. Working with the Project * Work with the Project Manager, who guides the project and owns the delivery gate, and keep the test matrix and V&V status visible to the whole team. * Work with system / design engineers, suppliers, external laboratories and research partners, and use their results as evidence without co-authoring them. * Review the test plans and acceptance criteria of another project, and have yours reviewed in return. WHERE THIS ROLE CAN TAKE YOU You will help shape how SEALER tests turn into trusted evidence, from the first test rig to fleet deployment. As the V&V team grows, this role can develop into guiding the Test & Validation Engineers or into broader technical responsibility within SEALER’s development. WHO YOU ARE You are a curious engineer who enjoys turning a technical question into a clear plan, and a plan into evidence the team can trust. You bring technical depth, a structured way of working, and the honesty to say when a requirement is not yet verified, and why. We believe you have: * A relevant engineering degree (mechanical, chemical, process, nuclear, aerospace, systems engineering, or similar). * Experience in test engineering, commissioning or verification and validation of complex systems. * Experience writing test plans with acceptance criteria, and keeping a test matrix or verification plan (for example DVP&R) traceable to requirements. * Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition and test data evaluation (for example in Python or MATLAB), including how results scale from small rigs to larger systems. * Understanding of systems engineering methods, including the V-model, gate reviews and stage-gate ways of working. * Working knowledge of FMEA and failure mode identification, risk-based thinking and process understanding, to set safe test conditions. * Familiarity with Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and readiness assessments. * Strong communication and collaboration skills across disciplines, including system / design engineers, site engineers and the Project Manager. * A background in nuclear, aerospace or another regulated industry, with NQA-1 or AS9100 experience, is a plus, as is test experience with hazardous or high-temperature media such as liquid metal. LOCATION The position is based in Stockholm, with travel to Oskarshamn and partners expected. You report to the Test and Operations Manager. Full-time and permanent, with the option to start as a contractor and move into permanent employment.

By combining decades of specialised research with world-class partners, Blykalla is building the backbone of the global AI and industrial economy. For more information, visit https://www.blykalla.com. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO We are looking for a Modularization Lead to make our SEALER reactor cost-competitive by design. Small reactors lack the economies of scale of large plants – our business case depends on a reactor built in factories, from standard components, with every design choice weighed against cost and value. You will own that agenda across our reactor development program. This is a role for someone who wants to shape the product, not review it afterwards. You will sit at the table where design decisions are made and have the mandate to change how they are made. Key responsibilities include: * Own and drive design-to-value across our reactor development program – break cost, availability, and schedule targets down to system level and hold design choices against them * Implement design-to-value ways of working in the design and engineering team – processes, design reviews, rules, and tools that make cost and value part of every design decision. * Define and own the modularization strategy and roadmap – degree of modularization, module boundaries, standardized interfaces, and the path from first-of-a-kind to fleet. * Drive component standardization and COTS – standard before custom, across systems and plant units. * Enable a reactor designed for factory production – off-site fabrication, pre-testing, transport, and fast site assembly, together with suppliers. WHO YOU’LL GET TO WORK WITH The Modularization Lead sits in the Product team within Blykalla, and reports to the Head of Product. You will work daily with design engineering, cost engineering, procurement, and construction, and closely with suppliers and partners. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla. WHO YOU ARE You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. You have taken a complex engineered product from one-off engineering to standardized, factory-built modules – and you know that cost is decided at the drawing board, not on site. You are comfortable challenging designers on why a component is custom, and credible enough that they listen. You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. There are however a few things that we think will help for you to succeed in this role, these are: * 8+ years in modularization, design-to-value/design-to-cost, or industrialization of complex engineered products (e.g., shipbuilding, offshore, process plants, aerospace, automotive, or energy). * Proven track record of moving a product towards standardized, factory-built modules and COTS components. * Hands-on with design-to-value methods – target costing, cost teardowns, value engineering, and trade studies. * Strong understanding of interface management, manufacturing, transport, and site assembly constraints. * Ability to change how engineering teams work – introducing processes that stick, not just documents. * Clear and structured communication – you can make the cost case to both engineers and executives. * Fluent in English, spoken and written. * Fluency in Swedish is a plus. We don’t expect candidates to already know the nuclear industry – we are looking for someone who has industrialized complex products elsewhere and wants to apply it to a first-of-a-kind reactor. Exposure to some of the areas below is a plus, not a checklist. Meritorious skills: * Experience from nuclear or other regulated, safety-classified industries. * Modular plant construction – e.g., structural modules, skid-based process modules, open-top installation. * Modular product architecture or platform design in serial production. * 3D/BIM, PLM, or digital tools for layout, cost tracking, and decision support. * Experience building a new function or capability from scratch.
