We are looking for a Linux/Unix Systems Engineer to join our Systems Operations team (8 people). This role balances the management of a robust and business-critical Linux infrastructure with the evolution toward modern Platform Engineering methodologies and automation. If you are looking for a stable position with a hybrid model, flexible working hours, and a high level of technical ownership, this project is for you. What will you do on a daily basis? * Ensure the high availability, performance, and security of our internal systems platforms and database solutions. * Guarantee the operational stability of key services (storage platforms, DNS, hosting, and email services). * Drive internal process and reporting automation, exploring the use of AI Engineering to reduce manual tasks. * Participate in the team's on-call rotation (24/7) to ensure service continuity. Technical Profile & Requirements: * Languages: English is a mandatory requirement for this role (working language). * Systems: Solid experience in administering Linux infrastructure (Red Hat/CentOS/RockyLinux, Debian). * Automation: Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, Perl) and configuration management tools such as Ansible. * Platform Engineering: Experience with or a strong interest in modern environments utilizing Kubernetes (k8s), Terraform, and Helm. * Networking: Basic knowledge of networking and routing protocols (such as BGP). * Mindset: No fear of taking over responsibility for complex systems and troubleshooting issues autonomously. Nice to have (A plus, but not mandatory): * Previous experience with traditional Unix systems (such as Solaris). * Knowledge of German. MISSION OF THE ROLE You will be part of the team responsible for operating one of the largest and most complex hosting platforms in Europe. Your mission will be to ensure the stability, performance, and evolution of the Stretch platform, working directly on critical production systems and contributing to the continuous improvement of a highly distributed infrastructure. This is a strongly technical role with hands-on impact at scale, where your work will directly influence service quality and platform evolution. You will collaborate closely with Hosting Technology teams and other web hosting teams within IONOS, with frequent interaction with international colleagues—particularly in Germany—to consolidate knowledge of existing systems. RESPONSIBILITIES * Operation, maintenance, and evolution of large-scale Linux infrastructure. * Advanced (Level 3) support for complex platform incidents. * Automation of processes using scripting (BASH, Python) and infrastructure tools. * Operation and management of distributed storage systems (Ceph). * Monitoring and analysis of the platform using observability tools (Grafana and similar). * Continuous improvement of system architecture and stability. * Collaboration with international teams to absorb knowledge from legacy systems. * Participation in on-call rotation. PROFESSIONAL PROFILE MUST HAVE * +3 years of experience in Linux system administration. * Strong scripting skills in BASH and Python. * Experience with configuration and automation tools: * Puppet or SaltStack * Ansible or Terraform * Hands-on experience operating Ceph storage clusters in production environments. * Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana. * Fluent English, required for international communication. We are looking for an Specialist System Administrator Linux for the Hosting Technology team: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Platform Management: Build, maintain, and optimize large-scale Linux platforms and Ceph storage clusters. * Continuity & Support: Provide Level 3 support, working closely with Level 2 teams and participating in on-call rotations (approx. 1 week every 6) after an initial adaptation period. * Knowledge Transfer: Collaborate with colleagues in Cologne (Germany) to absorb institutional knowledge of legacy systems and document critical processes. * Continuous Improvement: Identify performance bottlenecks and propose/implement proactive improvements to the existing architecture.
