Senior Mechanical

Quantity Surveyor – Data Centre Project, Sweden

If you’re a Senior Mechanical

Quantity Surveyor looking to build serious experience on large-scale European projects, this is a strong opportunity to do

it.

Kirby Group Engineering is looking for a Senior Mechanical

Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team delivering a major data centre project in Sweden.

You’ll take commercial responsibility for significant mechanical packages, working closely with the

project team from valuations and variations through subcontractor management, commercial reporting and final account.

It’s a hands-on senior commercial role with real responsibility on a major European project.

Who are Kirby Group Engineering?

Kirby Group Engineering is an international engineering and construction business delivering complex

mechanical and electrical projects across Europe.

The business operates in

technically demanding sectors including data centres, life sciences, industrial and advanced manufacturing.

For someone building a career in European data centre construction, this is an opportunity to work

with an established engineering contractor while adding significant international project experience to your CV.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting into the project commercial leadership team, you’ll take responsibility for the commercial management

of mechanical packages.

Your role will include:

  • Managing budgets, forecasts, BOQs and project profit

plans

  • Managing subcontractor accounts from procurement and interim valuations through to final account
  • Preparing

accurate monthly applications, including remeasurement, variations, dayworks and contractual claims

  • Managing payment

certificates, subcontractor payments and retentions

  • Identifying, costing and agreeing changes to mechanical works
  • Managing subcontractor remeasurement, site dayworks and change orders
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and

raising them early

  • Monitoring material and labour escalation where applicable
  • Leading commercial discussions with the

client, subcontractors and internal project team

  • Providing clear and accurate commercial reporting to project leadership
  • Working closely with Planning and Engineering to ensure progress reporting accurately reflects works completed
  • Maintaining

the records and commercial backup needed to support valuations, changes and claims

  • Negotiating with clients, subcontractors

and their representatives

  • Driving your packages through to agreement of final accounts

What we’re looking for

This is a senior appointment, so we’re looking for someone who understands the detail but is also comfortable

taking ownership of their packages.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Strong experience as a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, M&E

Quantity Surveyor or similar

  • Experience commercially managing significant mechanical packages
  • Good knowledge of

subcontractor management, valuations, variations and final accounts

  • Experience with BOQs, remeasurement, dayworks and change

control

  • A practical understanding of construction programmes and their commercial implications
  • Strong numerical,

contractual and commercial skills

  • The confidence to deal directly with clients and subcontractors
  • Strong communication

and negotiation skills

  • The ability to identify commercial risk and opportunity before it becomes a problem
  • The ability

to work independently and prioritise in a fast-moving project environment

Candidates from

pharmaceutical, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial and other major engineering environments could have highly

transferable experience.

Why consider it?

European data centres are among the largest and most

technically demanding construction projects in the market.

For an experienced Mechanical QS,

this is an opportunity to take ownership of substantial packages, work alongside an established project team and further develop

your international data centre experience.

You won’t simply be producing

reports about the commercial position. You’ll be expected to help shape it.
