ABOUT BITSTACK It all started with an idea in 2021. Initially built to democratize Bitcoin in France, Bitstack has gone from a simple product that invests spare change in bitcoin, to a crypto-native bank bringing a better way to save, spend, and grow money to our 300K+ users. We want to rebuild finance from the ground up to empower people to achieve financial freedom by participating in a more open and inclusive financial system. We’re a small, ambitious team of operators. We believe in moving fast, sweating the details, and creating products people truly love. At Bitstack, you’ll have the opportunity to shape not just our products, but the culture and practices of our entire organization. Bitstack is backed by YC, leading VCs like 13books Capital, Stillmark, Serena, and many more. We are building a product our users love and we are just getting started! THE ROLE Bitstack is hiring a Financial Controller & Accounting Manager to join its finance team at a defining moment for the company. Bitstack is moving from a single-product offering to a multi-product platform, expanding its commercial footprint across European markets through the French entity, and enhancing the regulatory licences that underpin the business. The finance function sits at the centre of that evolution. The Financial Controller & Accounting Manager will be central to preparing the company for its first external audit (on 2026 numbers, conducted in 2027) and for the Series B raise (late 2026 / Q1 2027). The role will own French statutory accounting, lead the relationships with the company's external accounting firm and tax advisor, design and implement revenue recognition for the new subscription and card interchange streams, and build the accounting, controls, and tax foundations on which the next stage of growth will be built. This is a hands-on, autonomous role with direct exposure to the Chief Financial Officer, the leadership team, and the co-founders. The successful candidate will make and own consequential decisions from the outset. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING * Lead French statutory accounting and own monthly and annual closes, transitioning the company from an annual to a monthly close cadence. * Manage the relationship with the external accounting firm and, from 2027, the appointed statutory auditor. * Lead the company's tax compliance across direct and indirect taxes — corporate income tax, VAT (including reverse-charge on non-EU services), and other applicable taxes — in close coordination with our specialist tax advisor. * Design and own the company's accounting policies, including revenue recognition for subscription and card interchange revenue streams, accruals, intercompany transactions, FX treatment, and other technical positions as they emerge. * Build and own the bad debt provisioning and collections framework for the new subscription business, in coordination with Product, Engineering, and Customer Service. * Build and maintain reconciliation workflows between Cryptio (crypto sub-ledger), the subscription billing platform, the Banking-as-a-Service provider, and Pennylane (core accounting platform). * Lead audit readiness preparation, including documentation, internal controls design, and audit trail integrity across the company's accounting systems. * Drive automation and AI adoption across the finance function — building workflows, leveraging AI for analysis and reporting, and using data and tooling as a core source of leverage. * Contribute to the broader finance systems roadmap, including the selection and implementation of close-management software and finance productivity tools. * Partner with the Data Lead to ensure finance data needs are met in the company's data warehouse. TECH STACK * Core accounting: Pennylane * Crypto sub-ledger: Cryptio * Treasury: Agicap * Procurement / SaaS contracts: Vertice * Close management: Numeric, FloQast, or equivalent (to be selected and implemented) * Analytics: Internal data warehouse, Metabase * Productivity: Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, ChatGPT WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * 6+ years of relevant professional experience, with a career path starting in audit at a top-tier firm (Big Four or equivalent), followed by industry experience as a Financial Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant. * Demonstrated experience managing external accounting partners and statutory auditors is essential. You should be able to describe specific examples of leading external relationships through close cycles, audits, or regulatory engagements. * Strong knowledge of French statutory accounting (Plan Comptable Général). Familiarity with IFRS is a plus. * Hands-on experience with modern accounting platforms or ERP systems (Pennylane, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar). Familiarity with crypto sub-ledger tools (Cryptio, Bitwave, Lukka, or similar) is highly valued. * Sector experience in crypto or fintech is highly valued. Experience in other B2C platforms (digital media, e-commerce, marketplace, consumer subscription) is also useful. Direct experience with regulated financial products (e-money, Banking-as-a-Service, payments) is a strong plus. * Languages: native French, professional working proficiency in English. * Strong technology and data fluency. Comfortable working with data tools (SQL or equivalent), light scripting (Python, JavaScript, or similar), AI productivity tools, and automation platforms. Sees technology as a core source of leverage for the finance function, not as a complement to the role. * Holistic perspective and strong business judgment. Able to connect accounting, tax, and controls topics to broader business decisions, well beyond technical compliance. * High autonomy and ownership mindset. Comfortable making decisions and driving outcomes with limited supervision, in a fast-moving environment. * Strong communicator. Able to engage credibly with external partners (accountants, auditors, tax advisors, regulators), challenge constructively, and translate technical topics for non-finance audiences. * Growth mindset. Curious, open to learning, and energised by an evolving scope as the company scales. INTERVIEW PROCESS 1. Introductory call our People Specialist — 30 minutes. Role fit, background, motivations, and process overview. 2. Interview with our CFO — 60 minutes. Role scope, technical experience, and strategic perspective. 3. Bitstack is backed by YC, leading VCs like 13books Capital, Stillmark, Serena, and many more. We are building a product our users love and we are just getting started! THE ROLE The Product team at Bitstack is responsible for turning user insights, business goals, and technical possibilities into products people love and rely on. Working in cross-functional squads, product decisions are made collaboratively by PMs, designers, and engineers. As a Product Manager, you will work inside a dedicated product squad focused on delivering impactful products from opportunity to launch. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING As a Product Manager at Bitstack, you will: * Co-lead end-to-end product development with your squad - from opportunity sizing and planning, through build, to launch. * Frame the business case: assess P&L impact, benchmarks, and compliance fit to help decide whether to go/no-go. * Own product marketing: craft positioning, messaging, and launch narratives, and ensure knowledge transfer across internal teams. * Partner closely with designers and engineers: work side by side to clarify outcomes, sequence scope, coordinate vendors, and remove blockers so everyone can do their best work. * Make decisions evidence-based: use research, data, and direct user feedback to ensure we're solving the right problems with the right solutions. * Translate insights into action: align with the team on problems to solve, define success metrics together, and provide specs or context where useful. * Own outcomes with your squad: define success metrics and events before build, put in place lightweight processes and tools for post-launch tracking, and drive iteration until measurable impact is achieved (scale, adjust, or kill). * Guide scope and QA: plan and ensure launches meet quality and compliance standards. * Measure, learn, and iterate: analyze adoption, retention, and feedback post-launch to guide future improvements. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We care more about impact than titles. The ideal candidate: * Has demonstrated excellence in product roles, with a track record of shipping features and driving measurable outcomes across the full product lifecycle. * Thinks in problems, not solutions - you start from user needs and business goals, not feature lists. * Has strong product and analytical judgment - you can go from messy data to a clear hypothesis. * Is comfortable defining metrics, structuring specs, and reasoning from qualitative and quantitative signals. * Thrives in fast-paced startup environments where ownership and accountability matter more than hierarchy. * Can balance speed with product quality and regulatory constraints. * Communicates clearly and aligns teams around outcomes, not outputs. Experience in consumer fintech, crypto, marketplaces, or high-scale consumer apps is a strong plus. If you're driven by innovation and ready to make an impact at scale, we’d love to hear from you. The Opportunity We are looking for senior software engineers who can also be people managers of other software engineers, for a share of their time (up to 50%). On the software engineering part: More than knowledge of a specific language or framework, we are looking for great software engineering skills: ability to translate functional requirements into an elegant and simple design, and then deliver the code. We are also looking for engineers who understand the product and the customer's needs in detail and can suggest innovative ideas: in the end, it's all about delivering value to end users. On the people management part, here is what it entails: - coaching up to 6 direct reports (usually every 2 weeks) - defining expectations, collecting and delivering feedback - building career development plans (we have a skill leveling matrix) - participating in performance-related decisions with other managers (ex: proposing and calibrating salary raises), including under-performance remediation - (optional) leading ad hoc projects with other managers to structure engineering (ex: organize technical demos, animate an All Hands, lead evolutions to our skill leveling matrix) In the Pigment engineering team, people managers do not have the responsibility of a particular technical domain, as this is the role of technical leads: this way, we make sure career decisions and technical choices are independent from one another. Explore Our Tech Blog: If you're curious about the kind of challenges our engineering team tackles, our culture and our organization, we invite you to explore our Tech Blog! Who you are In any case, you have: - Experience as a software engineer working on a product in production - for managers specifically, this experience must be evaluated during the interview process at a “senior” level (that is, usually from 7-8 years) - Experience in people management of at least 2-3 years, - Proven experience designing object oriented software with languages such as C#, Java, C++, Golang, Rust, Python or Ruby (this list is not exhaustive). - Great team spirit with a problem-solving attitude. - A good dose of humility and the willingness to grow (no matter your seniority!). - A fluent level of English (French is not a must). What you will get - Competitive salary - Equity - The best health insurance with Alan Blue entirely free for you and your family 💙 - Trust and flexible working hours - Brand new offices in the heart of Paris, London, New York and, Toronto - Remote-friendly environment
