YOUR MISSION Join VÆRIDION on our groundbreaking journey to develop the world’s first electric 9-seater aircraft. As a HiL Test Engineer (all genders), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the VÆRIDION Microliner by integrating and testing the electronic control units of our electric propulsion system, with a primary focus on the Battery Management System (BMS). You will lead the development and management of HiL and Power HiL test rigs at our test facilities while executing critical test campaigns for R&D and certification. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY * Test Execution: * Manage the entire test process, from request to final report. * Collaborate with design engineers to assess test requirements. * Execute tests and deliver reliable, insightful reports. * Test Asset Ownership: * Oversee multiple test assets, ensuring readiness, safety, and calibration. * Optimize asset schedules for maximum testing efficiency. * Partner with engineers and technicians to set up and execute test campaigns. * Rig Development: * Design and develop HiL and Power HiL test rigs in coordination with support teams and suppliers. * Create software solutions for test rigs focused on electric motor, battery, and system integration. * Work closely with software, mechanical, and electrical specialists to innovate test solutions. * Support and Best Practices: * Foster a strong safety culture within our test facilities. * Establish and maintain best practices to ensure operational excellence. * Tackle ad-hoc projects and tasks with enthusiasm and adaptability. YOUR PROFILE * Degree in Aerospace, Computer, Software, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering (or a related field). * 3+ years of professional experience in real-time simulation labs. * Expertise in developing HiL and Power HiL rigs is essential. * Proficiency with test rig systems and software like Matlab/Simulink, National Instruments, or Speedgoat is critical. * Knowledge of Battery Management Systems is highly desirable. * Experience with aerospace standards such as DO-178 is desirable. * Familiarity with high-voltage components and aircraft integration labs is a plus. * Proactive, driven, and unafraid to challenge the status quo. * Comfortable working with incomplete requirements and anticipating needs. * Self-reliant, adaptable, and an excellent team player. * Strong problem-solving skills and a goal-oriented mindset. * Fluent in English; German or other languages are a Plus. YOUR MISSION As an Engineering Intern at Moonwatt, you will work at the intersection of embedded software, electronics design, and electrical engineering. Among others, you will work on the development, testing, and integration of our battery management system. This is a hands-on internship where you will be contributing directly alongside senior engineers, develop and test prototypes, and build our production firmware. The internship is designed with a strong intention to convert to full-time for high performers. What You Will Work On Mechanical Design and Development * Actively contribute to the mechanical design of Moonwatt products using CAD tools (SolidWorks), from early concepts through detailed 3D models and technical drawings. * Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity, thermal behavior, and mechanical performance of components and assemblies. * Support the transition from design to physical prototype, working with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing. Participate in assembly, testing, and iteration cycles. * Work closely with internal teams (electronics, firmware, product) and external partners (suppliers, subcontractors, labs) to align mechanical designs with system-level requirements. * Produce and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, assembly procedures, test reports, and design reviews. * Perform fail fast method to quickly deliver increments or prototypes that can be used to validate the feasibility or desirability of an idea or a project. * Perform mechanical assembly on sub or top assembly on product prototype. Electronics & Electrical Support * Assist electronics & electrical teams on the design of all electrical/electronic components with hardware design and assembly instructions. * Support validation and testing of low-voltage and high-voltage electrical architectures within battery systems. Product development and organizational improvement * Setting up and managing custom property templates in SolidWorks (part number, material, revision, finish, etc.) to ensure consistent metadata across files. Designing and maintaining drawing templates * Contributing to the rollout of engineering best practices within the team (GD&T standards, model quality checklists, release workflows). YOUR PROFILE Must Have * Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering. * Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. * Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD tool. * Theoretical or practical knowledge of FEA simulation. * Knowledge of electricity fundamentals and battery systems. * Have an affinity for hands-on mechanical work. Thrive in a high-autonomy role and in fast-paced environments. * Curious, precise, and eager to learn within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment. * Minimum internship duration of 6 months (end-of-study internship preferably). Nice to Have * Previous experience in students' organizations like Formula Student, Eco-Marathon teams or Fablab / Makerspace clubs will be highly valued. * Electrical and/or electronics knowledge or prior experience is a plus. * Knowledge of DFM/DFA and tolerance analysis (GD&T). * Hands-on experience with prototyping (3D printing, machining, lab work). * Previous hardware bring-up experience including component-level testing and validation. * Interest or background in renewable energy, energy storage, or electric vehicles (EV) domains. * Awareness of hydraulics system challenges. YOUR MISSION We are seeking a highly skilled Senior High-Voltage Airborne Electronics Engineer (all genders) to design, develop, and validate high-performance power control and conversion hardware. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in power electronics design, component selection, simulation, PCB design, testing, and will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and cost-effective power solutions. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY * Design and develop power electronics hardware including power distribution & protection units, solid-state power controllers and DC-DC converters. * Capture requirements and manage them systematically in a traceable way. * Create schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs for power electronic systems. * Perform circuit analysis, simulations, and design optimization (thermal, EMI/EMC, efficiency, reliability). * Select and qualify power components such as Power MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC/GaN devices, magnetics, and passive components. * Lead prototype build, bring-up, debugging, and validation testing. * Conduct failure analysis and implement design improvements. * Ensure compliance with relevant safety and regulatory standards (UL, IEC, ISO, etc.). * Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, procurement and quality teams. * Support production ramp-up, manufacturing test development, and field issue resolution. * Prepare and maintain technical documentation, test reports, and design reviews. YOUR PROFILE * Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field. * More than 5 years of professional experience. * Strong background in power electronics theory and practical hardware design. * Experience with electrical protection, power semiconductors, converter topologies and control methods. * Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium Designer (preferred), OrCAD, or KiCad. * Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, power analysers, electronic loads). * Solid understanding of electronics packaging, thermal management, EMI/EMC, and safety design. * Ability to debug complex hardware issues independently. * Experience with wide bandgap semiconductors (SiC,GaN). * Familiarity with simulation tools (LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, MATLAB/Simulink). * Knowledge of high-voltage and high-power systems. * Experience with testing hardware under high-voltage (>800V). * Experience with DO-254 process. * Experience with aerospace & defence standards (DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704). * A valid (car) driving licence is preferred for occasional travel between our locations.
