JOIN PROTON AND BUILD A BETTER INTERNET WHERE PRIVACY IS THE DEFAULT Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we've built the world's largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar — tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe. In some situations, Proton has literally helped save lives. We are profitable, independent (no VC control), and selectively hire from the top ~1% of applicants. Our 700+ team members across 50+ countries come from leading organizations and elite academic backgrounds. We move fast, keep hierarchy light, and prioritize impact over optics. If you want to do meaningful work with exceptionally high-caliber people, this is it. Check our open-source projects here. The Role As VP Design, you will own and lead the design function across both Product Design (user experience, interface, service design) and Brand / Marketing Design (visual identity, campaign creative, brand experience). You’ll partner closely with the CEO, VP Marketing and Heads of Product, helping shape strategy, drive design excellence, and ensure that design becomes a core differentiator for Proton. You will build, mentor and scale a high-performing, multi-disciplinary design organisation, embedding design thinking across the company. What you will do • Define and execute the strategic vision for design at Proton, bridging product and brand to deliver a unified and differentiated experience globally. • Lead, develop and grow a world-class design organisation: recruiting designers and researchers structuring teams across product and brand, setting performance metrics, fostering a culture of creativity, craft and user-centricity. • Partner with the CEO, VP Marketing and Heads of Product to ensure design is embedded into strategic roadmaps, product launches, marketing campaigns and brand initiatives. • Oversee the end-to-end design process for all major product lines and brand campaigns: user research, UX/UI, service design, prototyping, testing, visual design, motion, interactive experiences. • Ensure that the Proton brand identity is strong, consistent, scalable and flexible across all touchpoints: digital, mobile, web, marketing, physical, events. • Drive design systems, tools and processes across product & brand to deliver efficiency, quality, consistency and scale. • Advocate for users and privacy-first design principles in everything we build and brand. • Monitor and measure design impact: user experience metrics, brand perception, conversion, retention, campaign effectiveness; iterate and optimise accordingly. • Represent design externally: speak on design at conferences, build Proton’s design reputation, collaborate with creative agencies and partners worldwide. What We’re Looking For • A minimum of 15 + years of experience in design leadership roles (product, brand and/or marketing) at a global technology company or agency. • Proven track record of building, scaling and operating design organisations with cross-functional reach. • Strong experience overseeing both product (UX/UI, service design) and brand/marketing design (visual identity, campaign creative) — not one or the other only. • Demonstrated ability to define and execute design strategy that drives business impact (growth, engagement, retention, brand equity). • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work at executive level and influence across product, marketing, engineering and operations. • Deep user-centred design mindset; strong portfolio showing end-to-end work (research → strategy → UX → UI → brand visuals). • Skilled in designing for global audiences, with sensitivity to cultural differences and brand consistency across markets. • Expertise in building and scaling design systems, establishing best practices and operational processes in fast-growing environments. • Excellent leadership and people development skills: mentoring senior designers, creating high-performing teams, promoting a culture of craftsmanship and innovation. • Comfortable working in a dynamic, high-growth company with a mission-driven ethos and a global, diverse team. • Strong communicator with polished presentation and storytelling skills; fluent in English (other languages a plus). WHAT WE OFFER * Work that Matters: Millions of people trust Proton with their privacy. We answer only to our users — not advertisers, not investors with conflicting agendas, not governments. * A Great Team: Diverse, collaborative, and tight-knit, with people from MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, Cambridge, ETH, and more. * Technology: The right hardware and software to do your best work. * Learning & Development: We invest in your growth. Proton is one of the fastest ways to accelerate your career — real challenges, real ownership, from day one. * Employee Benefits: Strong health coverage, solid retirement options, generous leave, and wellness support. * Stock Options: From day one, you have a real stake in what we're building. When Proton wins, you win. * In-Person Collaboration: Offices across Geneva, Zürich, Barcelona, London, and more. You'll spend most of your time collaborating face-to-face. * Food: Lunch and snacks on us every day in the office. * Transport: We cover public transport, bike allowances, or parking — whichever works for you. * Flexible Working: You own your schedule. Outcomes matter more than clock-in times. OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION At Proton, we believe diversity drives innovation and strengthens our mission to provide privacy as a default for all. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socio-economic background — feel valued and empowered. Alohi is an AI-first SaaS scale-up on a mission to simplify how businesses work. Our products (Sign.Plus, Dial.Plus, Fax.Plus, and Scan.Plus) serve 5M+ customers worldwide, from small businesses to global enterprises. We're building category-defining tools that people actually love to use. We started with seed support from FONGIT (Fondation Genevoise pour l'Innovation Technologique), backed by the State of Geneva. Since then, we've chosen to bootstrap our growth. This keeps us financially independent, customer-focused, and able to move fast without external constraints. We're a lean, fast-growing team based in Geneva with strong traction across global markets. This is an entrepreneurial environment where you'll have high ownership, broad responsibilities, and direct impact from day one. You'll work closely with leadership, helping shape decisions rather than just executing them. If you want to build something meaningful in a fast-paced, innovation-driven company, without the chaos of early-stage uncertainty or the bureaucracy of a large corporation, this is it. We are hiring a Product Marketing Manager to own everything that happens after a customer signs up. Millions of users discover our products every year; your job is to turn them into active, paying, and loyal customers. You'll own the post-signup funnel, from signup to activation and adoption, through to retention and expansion. That means activation flows, onboarding, feature adoption, churn reduction, upsell, and net revenue retention all sit with you, and you'll shape how trials and upgrades are communicated along the way. This role combines strategy with execution. You'll set the agenda for the post-signup funnel, spotting the opportunities and proposing the solutions, and then you'll roll up your sleeves and implement them yourself. We're a lean team, so the person who designs the plan is the person who ships it: building the campaigns, writing the copy, creating the materials, and seeing each initiative through to a measurable result. Alongside that, you'll tell the story of every release, equip our sales team to sell what we build, and help shape what we build next, bringing a sharp eye for design and detail to everything you ship. You'll work in close collaboration with both the marketing and sales teams. Marketing owns everything up to signup (awareness, traffic, and acquisition campaigns), and you own the journey from signup onwards, so the two functions need to move in lockstep. You'll partner with marketing on messaging, brand, and lifecycle communication, and with sales to make sure they can position and sell everything we build. This position is fully on-site at our Geneva office. RESPONSIBILITIES Post-Signup Funnel Ownership * Own signup to active user: activation flows, onboarding experience, and feature adoption across all four products. * Support conversion from active to paying user: shape the messaging around trials, upgrades, and plan value, working with Product on how these are presented. * Own retention and expansion: churn reduction, upsell initiatives, and net revenue retention. * Analyse funnel and usage data to identify where users drop off or stall, and turn insights into targeted initiatives. Strategy & Hands-On Execution * Set the strategy for the post-signup funnel, then build it: define priorities, design the initiatives, and implement them end to end. * Identify opportunities before anyone asks, and act on them: new adoption plays, growth experiments, and innovative features we could take to the press. * Develop deep industry knowledge: track competitors, market trends, and customer needs across e-signature, faxing, voice AI, and document workflows. * Feed market insight back into the roadmap; be a strong voice on what the next feature should be and why. * Propose and implement improvements to the website, from messaging and structure to how features are presented. Product Launches & Communication * Write and publish release notes that customers actually read, turning technical updates into clear, compelling stories. * Plan and host webinars that educate customers and showcase new capabilities. * Craft launch narratives for innovative features, identifying press-worthy angles and working with leadership on stories we can take to the media. Sales Enablement * Build and maintain catalogues and collateral covering our feature offerings, so the sales team can position and sell every product with confidence. * Translate product capabilities into value propositions, use cases, and competitive positioning tailored to different customer segments. Design & Brand Quality * Bring strong design taste to everything you produce, from decks and one-pagers to webinar visuals and web pages. * Partner closely with design and web teams to keep customer-facing materials polished, consistent, and on-brand. REQUIREMENTS * AI-native in how you work: you reach for AI tools instinctively and constantly look for ways to use them to do sharper, faster, better work. * 5+ years of experience in product marketing or management or growth, ideally in B2B SaaS. * A proven track record of improving activation, adoption, conversion, or retention metrics, with funnel numbers you can point to. * Familiarity with how trials, upgrades, and plan messaging drive conversion. * A proactive builder and strategist in one: you spot opportunities others miss, own the plan, and do the hands-on work to make it real, from copy and campaigns to web pages and collateral. * Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to turn a technical changelog into a story customers care about. * Experience in planning and delivering webinars or similar customer-facing programmes. * Genuine design sensibility and high standards for visual quality. * Comfortable with product analytics and data-driven decision making. * Experience creating sales enablement materials and working closely with sales teams. * Curiosity about our industry and the drive to become an expert in it. * Fluent in English. WHAT WE OFFER You'll be based at our Geneva office, working alongside a lean, high-calibre team where ideas flow freely and decisions happen fast. * AI-First Technology: We provide all the devices and software you need to excel, including access to cutting-edge AI tools and a modern tech stack. You'll have the best resources at your disposal to move quickly and build great things. * Personal Development: We invest in your growth with a dedicated learning budget for training programmes, conferences, courses, and professional development opportunities. * Quarterly Events & Annual Retreats: Regular team events and company-wide retreats to connect, celebrate wins, and have fun together. * Award-Winning Culture: We're proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work and Best Workplace, reflecting our commitment to building an environment where talented people thrive. * Perks & Wellbeing: Weekly yoga sessions, plus discounts on gym memberships, restaurants, and Apple products to support your lifestyle inside and outside of work.
