The Department of Earth Sciences conducts research and education in earth sciences and geography. Research is organized around three principal themes: climate and climate change, earth surface processes, and the geosphere. Research within climate and climate change includes climate modelling, regional climate dynamics, paleoclimate reconstruction, dendrochronology, and analysis of instrumental and proxy-based climate data. The Department of Earth Sciences is now seeking a researcher for a fixed-term position focusing on warm-season temperature variability in northern Fennoscandia from a long-term climate perspective.
Climatology, with a focus on paleoclimate model–proxy comparisons and warm-season temperature extremes.
Instrumental climate observations cover only a small fraction of the timescales needed to assess how unusual regional climate extremes are. Annually resolved paleoclimate reconstructions can extend this perspective over centuries to millennia and provide independent benchmarks for evaluating climate-model simulations.
The project uses a quantitative wood-anatomy reconstruction of May–August temperature from northern Sweden and Finland for the period 850–2019. The reconstruction will be compared with last-millennium, historical, and future simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project and the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project.
The purpose of the position is to complete and further develop the model–proxy analysis, quantify uncertainties in projected occurrences of record-warm seasons, and contribute to the completion and submission of a scientific manuscript.
The researcher will work with existing paleoclimate reconstruction data, instrumental or reanalysis temperature data, and climate-model simulations.
The duties may be adjusted within the overall scientific scope of the project depending on data availability and manuscript needs.

The successful candidate will lead the health economics component of the research project CHAT-MH, which evaluates a person-centred chatbot intervention, and contribute to the interdisciplinary research centre DEMSAM. DEMSAM conducts research focusing on person-centred approaches, dementia-friendly environments, and collaboration across healthcare, social care, and society. Duties and responsibilities As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for planning, conducting and reporting the health economic analyses within the projects, as well as coordinating health economic outcome measures. You will work closely with researchers in caring science, psychiatry, health economics and person-centred care. Your main responsibilities include: • planning and conducting health economic evaluations within randomised controlled trials (RCTs), complex interventions and longitudinal mixed-methods studies; • developing health economic evaluation models for person-centred interventions in psychiatric care and in health and social care for people living with cognitive impairment related to dementia; • analysing healthcare resource utilisation, costs, cost-effectiveness and patient-related outcomes; • contributing to the design and implementation of data collection relating to health economic outcomes; • collaborating in an interdisciplinary research team comprising researchers in caring science, psychiatry, health economics and person-centred care; • contributing to scientific publications and dissemination of research findings nationally and internationally; and • contributing to research grant applications and the development of future research projects. You are expected to contribute actively to the scientific development of the projects and to interdisciplinary collaboration within the research environment. Eligibility To be eligible for appointment as a Postdoctoral Researcher, applicants must hold a doctoral degree, an artistic doctoral degree, or an equivalent foreign degree that is considered comparable to a Swedish doctoral degree. The degree requirement must be fulfilled no later than the date on which the employment decision is made. Priority will normally be given to applicants who obtained their doctoral degree no more than three years before the closing date for applications. Applicants must also have solid knowledge of health economic methods, cost-effectiveness analysis, research methodology and statistical analysis. Excellent written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish is considered an advantage. The position requires good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and extensive experience of statistical software such as R, Stata, SPSS or SAS. Experience of health economic modelling, health economic software and analysis of digital health data is considered an asset. Subject area Human-Computer Interaction Subject area description Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an interdisciplinary research field that studies the design, development, and use of interactive digital systems in relation to human needs, behaviors, and social contexts. The field encompasses theories, methods, and practices for designing technologies that are usable, meaningful, and relevant in different contexts, with a particular focus on the interplay between humans and technology. This position focuses on the design and development of digital interventions that support sustainable return to work. The research includes the development and evaluation of interactive systems in close collaboration with users and stakeholders in healthcare and working life contexts. Job assignments We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in human-computer interaction with strong expertise in the design and development of digital systems. The position is connected to a work package within the UGot ReWork centre, aiming to design, develop, evaluate, and implement digital interventions that support sustainable return to work for individuals on sick leave due to mental health conditions or musculoskeletal disorders. The work is research-driven and exploratory, where design and development of digital solutions form a central part of the research process. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to translating research ideas and needs from healthcare and workplace contexts into functional digital systems, prototypes, and interventions. We are seeking an ambitious applied researcher who wants to work at the forefront of data-driven nutrition and health. This is a unique opportunity to bridge mathematics, statistics, AI, and biomedical research in a highly interdisciplinary research environment. About us Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre (FCC) is a leading research centre in industrial mathematics, modelling, simulation, optimisation, and data analytics. We operate at the interface between academic research and industrial needs, often in interdisciplinary projects where mathematics, data, and domain expertise meet. Together with the nutrition research group led by Professor Rikard Landberg at Chalmers University of Technology, we conduct advanced research in data-driven nutrition, health, and food science. With large-scale diet and health data, omics data, biomarkers, digital food and health services, we establish predictive models for evaluation of the role of diet in health and disease and establish personalized dietary strategies for more effective disease prevention. In many cases, the work involves time series data, dynamic processes and phenomena, where both methods and interpretation must account for temporal dynamics. Data typically comes from intervention studies conducted in Gothenburg and or from large cohorts and biobanks from international collaborators. To secure and further develop this important collaboration, we are now recruiting an applied researcher with a strong quantitative profile and interest in nutrition, health, or medicine. Your role As an applied researcher in this area, you will: Act as a key person in the collaboration between FCC and the nutrition research group at Chalmers. Lead and conduct research projects in data-driven nutrition, such as:analysis of time series data and dynamic processes, where signals and responses evolve over time. statistical modelling, AI, and machine learning on large epidemiological cohorts, diet and health data analysis of omics data (metabolomics, proteomics, microbiome, etc.) development of predictive dynamical models and digital decision-support tools for nutrition and health method development in causal inference, integration of heterogeneous data sources, uncertainty quantification Work with a wide range of data types, for example dietary records, biomarkers, omics data, registry data, and sensor data such as CGM measurements (continuous glucose monitoring), activity trackers, and other wearable sensors. Serve as a bridge between domain researchers (nutrition, medicine, food science) and quantitative experts (mathematics, statistics, AI&ML, systems engineering). Supervise, collaborate, and support PhD students and postdocs involved in joint projects. Your profile We are looking for someone who: Holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Automatic Control, Signal Processing, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Has experience in data-driven research, preferably related to biomedicine, nutrition, epidemiology, food science, or public health. Is proficient in modern statistical modelling, AI & machine learning methods (e.g. system identification, regression models, mixed-effects modeling, Bayesian methods, deep learning, variational autoencoders, generative AI).
