Flatpay is one of Europe’s fastest-growing payment companies, delivering modern payment solutions to merchants across the
continent. From payment terminals and acquiring to software, we simplify payments for thousands of businesses every day.
Our payment infrastructure processes more than one and half million transactions daily, and we’re looking for a Payment Specialist
to help ensure the quality, stability, and reliability of our in-house payment platform.
We’re looking for a Payment Specialist with at least one year of experience to join our Payment Team in Herlev.
Your primary focus will be our Card Present payment platform and Flatpay’s in-house Payment Application. You’ll play a key role in
testing new functionality, investigating transaction issues, monitoring payment flows, and working closely with Developers,
Product Managers, and Tech Operations to continuously improve our platform.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys technical troubleshooting, digging into transaction data and logs, and ensuring
high-quality payment experiences.
ABOUT THE JOB We're looking for a Product Specialist Manager to lead and develop our international Product Specialist function from our headquarters in Herlev. This is a hands-on leadership role in a company that is still building, scaling, and expanding into new markets. That means real ownership, real influence, and plenty of opportunities to shape both the team and the way we work. You'll report directly to the Product Director and play a key role in connecting local market needs with product development across Flatpay's growing European footprint. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will lead a team of seven Product Specialists across Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK. Each Product Specialist acts as the product ambassador for their market, owning the enablement, feedback collection, and local product understanding needed to ensure success in their country. As their manager, your role is to help them succeed, develop, and scale their impact. People & Performance You will: * Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and development conversations * Coach Product Specialists through complex stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration * Own the recruitment and onboarding of new Product Specialists as the team expands into additional markets * Support them in navigating different market conditions, priorities, and maturity levels * Raise the bar for performance and continuously develop the function * Ensure each market receives the product support and attention it needs Market Intelligence A key responsibility will be ensuring that valuable local insights reach the right people. You will: * Own the framework for collecting and communicating product feedback across all markets * Ensure Product Managers receive structured, actionable insights rather than noise * Drive accountability across the feedback loop, both from Product Specialists and Product Managers * Help ensure that local market needs are understood and reflected in product decisions Travelling This is an international role and requires regular travel. You should expect to visit local markets several times per month to support your team, strengthen collaboration, and assist with product launches and market initiatives. WHO YOU ARE Hard requirements * Prior experience managing a team – you have done this before and you have the scar tissue to show for it * Strong commercial and business judgment – this role requires constant prioritization across competing demands, markets and stakeholders * The ability to hold your own with senior stakeholders across product, sales, and local market leadership. A humble and respectful, but professional and stern attitude is required. Strong indicators of success You will likely thrive in this role if: * You've worked in an environment that was still being built – where the process you needed did not exist yet, so you made one * You communicate clearly across functions with different priorities and agendas * You give feedback directly and early, not carefully and late * You are willing to fail and learn, rather than play it safe and not develop Industry experience is not a requirement. Smart people can learn payments. What matters more is your ability to lead people, understand commercial realities, and operate effectively in an environment where not everything is already figured out. Success in this role is not measured by direct revenue ownership. Instead, it's measured by how effectively your team enables local markets, strengthens product adoption, and helps Flatpay build products that work across Europe. Most importantly, you understand that managing people across seven countries requires flexibility. What works in Denmark will not necessarily work in Italy, Germany, or the UK—and you're excited by that challenge.

ABOUT THE JOB Flatpay has become one of the fastest-growing payment companies by helping merchants accept payments in-store and online. But with 100,000+ merchants relying on us today, payments are only part of running a business — every transaction eventually needs to land in the books, and that's still far too much manual work. Accounting and Bookkeeping is one of Flatpay's most strategic engineering domains. We're building the products and platforms that turn transaction data into clean books and accurate financial records — including integrations with the accounting systems our merchants already use. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in defining the technical direction of Flatpay's accounting platform — from how we model financial data, to how we build systems that handle real-world bookkeeping at scale and connect reliably with the third-party systems on the other end. This is an opportunity to join a company that has grown from startup to unicorn at record speed. You'll have significant ownership, the freedom to drive technical decisions, and a direct impact on tools that 100,000+ businesses can rely on. As we expand across markets — each with its own accounting practices, tax rules, and reporting requirements — you'll help shape how Flatpay scales financial infrastructure. If you care deeply about the accuracy financial data demands, this is a domain where your work will play a central role in Flatpay's future growth. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Design and build scalable systems that power Flatpay's accounting and bookkeeping capabilities * Lead feature and platform initiatives involving multiple engineers, driving delivery from discovery through production * Take ownership of features from design and implementation through deployment and maintenance * Drive architectural decisions and long-term technical improvements * Build APIs, services, and data models that handle financial data accurately and at scale * Improve reliability, observability, performance, and security across the platform — with particular attention to the accuracy and consistency that financial data requires * Partner with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to drive technical and product outcomes * Help establish engineering standards and best practices as the Accounting and Bookkeeping domain continues to grow WHO YOU ARE * 7+ years of professional software engineering experience * Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems * Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects involving multiple engineers and influence architectural decisions * Experience building scalable backend platforms and APIs, especially ones that integrate with internal and third-party systems * Comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping shape new products and systems * Strong communication and collaboration skills * Experience within payments, accounting and bookkeeping systems, or financial data platforms is a plus You'll be working with technologies such as the following. We don't expect experience with every technology listed below. We're looking for engineers who can learn quickly and help us build great products. Backend * Java, Spring Boot * MySQL * REST APIs & Event-Driven Architecture * Domain Driven Design * Docker, AWS Frontend * TypeScript * React * TanStack Query * Jest * Playwright * i18n, feature flags Platform & Delivery * GitHub Actions * CI/CD * AWS ECS * Observability & Monitoring WHY FLATPAY? We offer an inclusive environment where engineers are trusted with ownership and encouraged to make an impact. Our engineering teams work together from our Copenhagen office. We believe that close collaboration, quick feedback loops, and solving problems side-by-side help us build better products, move faster, and create a stronger engineering culture. We also provide plenty of perks including free slush ice, an on-site gym, a fully equipped gamer room, and much more. If you're ready to help build and scale the future of payments, we'd love to hear from you.
