Linköpings UniversitetOm tjänsten
We are now recruiting a PhD student for a research project on biogas solutions in a flexible, resilient and sustainable energy
system. The holder of this position will be a part of a national transdisciplinary center of excellence called Biogas Solutions
Research Center (BSRC). Here, co-production of new and relevant knowledge is generated through collaboration between different
scientific disciplines as well as between researchers and practitioners from industry and public organizations. The BSRC includes
researchers and support from two universities, Linköping University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, as well as
about 50 private and public organizations involving all parts of the biogas system. It also has support from the Swedish Energy
Agency.
YOUR WORK ASSIGNMENTS
You will conduct research in collaboration with senior researchers and other PhD students. The research will primarily focus on
biogas solutions and their role in developing a flexible, resilient, and sustainable energy system. The work will involve
techno-economic analyses, mathematical modelling, and case studies focusing on the value of flexible biogas production, as well as
the contribution of biogas to self-sufficiency and regional resilience. The analyses will account for uncertainties related to,
among other things, policy instruments and market conditions. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with industry
and public-sector organizations.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work will
also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time. As a PhD student, you will have the
opportunity to shape your doctoral research within the framework of the project’s research agenda, with support from your
supervisors.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

You have graduated at Master’s level in a subject of central relevance to the field of Sustainable Systems or completed courses
with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses of relevance for the subject.
Your degree must be completed no later than the date when the employment decision is made.
The ability to write and communicate in English is a requirement. The work will be conducted in collaboration with other
researchers and industry partners, making the ability to collaborate with others essential. You should also enjoy sharing your
work and results with both internal and external stakeholders.
Previous experience with energy systems analysis, mathematical modelling, techno-economic analysis, case studies, and scenario
analysis is considered a merit.
YOUR WORKPLACE
The Division of Energy Systems is one of the leading research and educational organizations in its field, conducting research from
a systems perspective with an interdisciplinary approach. This means that the focus is not only on developing technical solutions
but also on understanding decision-making processes within industry and the public sector. Both education and research are
largely interdisciplinary and are conducted in close cooperation with other academic institutions, industry, and public
administration. Read more at Energy Systems.
