What we do. Electric Car Leasing
Why we do it. Greener. Fairer. Future.
At Octopus Electric Vehicles we’ve built a data platform that provides data services to all areas of our business. The aim of the platform is to enable self-service of data analytics to data hungry internal users as well as automation of all our data workflows - from simple ETL jobs to ML training and prediction.
The data team at OEV is growing at speed. We have invested time and resources on establishing a core data platform, and are now leveraging technology to automate processes and reporting, so we can focus on improving how our data platform works as a system - from improving data latency and reliability, to thinking about making our data ready for productionised data science applications.
We are looking for an experienced data engineer that is equally passionate about using technology to grow the business and decarbonise the UK’s fleet.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on data problems that genuinely move us closer to Net Zero with a company that is passionate about building great technology to change the way customers travel sustainably.
Electroverse is looking for a talented, passionate Software Engineer to join our team and help build the foundations of the global EV transition. About Octopus Electroverse We’re making electric vehicle public charging simple, by building the giant, virtual charging platform of the future. In just five years, Octopus Electroverse has become Europe’s largest eMobility charging network, with over 1.4 million connected electric vehicle chargers globally across 79 countries. Our customer ecosystem spans web, iOS, Android, CarPlay, Android Auto & Automotive OS. But this is just the start: we’re busy expanding internationally, growing our Charge Point Operator and OEM partners, and scaling our Octopus Fleet B2B proposition - all in the name of making public EV charging super simple for our customers. Electroverse is a cross-functional team of product, engineering, commercial, operations and marketing, all sharing a passion for shifting the industry towards EVs. About the Job You’ll join the Core squad - the team running the technical foundations of everything Electroverse does. Working alongside our Technical Product Manager and backend team, you will help develop the critical logic and resilient platform infrastructure that powers our B2C, B2B and API features. Our work spans a broad and dynamic remit - from integrating new and supporting existing CPOs using our partner portal to improving the reliability of the charging experience, implementing bespoke pricing solutions, and driving architectural efficiency. You’ll have the chance to work on highly impactful projects, fueling product innovation in a fast-moving industry and influencing how the back-end scales to keep Electroverse at the forefront.
ABOUT THE ROLE Octopus was founded with a mission to use technology to accelerate us towards a low-carbon future. That’s why we created Kraken - our own technology platform from scratch which now serves over 70 Million households and is a core reason why Octopus is the number one energy supplier in the UK. We do it by hiring clever, curious, and self-driven people, enabling them with modern tools and infrastructure and giving them lots of autonomy. We have been using GenAI in live, customer-facing environments since 2022, including one system that creates tens of thousands of high-quality emails for our Energy Specialists, combining our deep knowledge of the energy industry and the Octo communication style with customer-specific data from Kraken. We are now looking for a Senior AI Engineer. You will build and scale the systems that allow Octopus teams to use Generative AI models (LLMs, RAG, agents). You will be hands-on, working with a cross-functional team to build out flagship AI projects, and the platforms that enable others to succeed with Generative AI. You’ll work on developing solutions that genuinely move us closer to Net Zero in a company passionate about building great technology to change the way customers use energy. You’ll have wide open problems to solve, so you’ll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, figuring out an approach and validating it fast.
Seen this advert before? That is because we are continuing to grow! We are very excited to be growing our small and efficient TechOps team at Octopus. We aren't looking for standard IT support - we are looking for an ambitious, deeply knowledgeable and experienced TechOps Generalist to join our team, to grow with the rest of the company, and ensure we are doing so in a secure and safe way. You will be a key partner in defining what TechOps is at Octopus. We will be continuing to shape this team to provide world class support to our employees, building our way out of problems with engineering firepower and undertaking transformational organisational change. We don't just "fix" things - we automate them out of existence. For us, a Generalist isn’t about knowing a little of everything, it’s a multi-disciplinary role for someone who’s deeply experienced in many facets of Enterprise IT. Think multi-domain specialist - not Jack of all trades. What is TechOps? A more modern, more lean version of a traditional Enterprise IT team with around one of us for every 1000 people at Octopus. We cover everything from what most people would call “1st line support” all the way up to high-level strategic planning, and everything in between. We tackle big problems and the breadth of work is huge. Dealing with ambiguity is a key part of working in TechOps, and every day will be a new and exciting one, working on varying challenges across the company and keeping plates spinning. We have a cloud-first approach to everything we do. This allows us to scale quickly and focus on things where we can add the most value. No on-prem AD here!
