Hi, I'm Tom Clark - CIO, CISO, and hx employee #9. I'm the executive in charge of our Systems & Security function. I joined in
2020 at seed stage, and I've been here through Series A, Series B, and everything in between - watching us grow from nine people
to more than 250. I’m six years in, and I've never been more excited about what's ahead.
Fun fact: I didn't come from insurance. I came from TV and media - if you've ever used BBC iPlayer, ITVX, or listened to Capital
Radio, I helped make them. I ended up in insurance and became, perhaps unexpectedly, one of the industry's biggest cheerleaders.
I know what you're thinking: insurance isn't cool. I can change your mind in five minutes, or your money back. And the best bit?
What we're building with hxOS is cooler still. We take a product-centric, customer-centric view to internal IT - the same rigour
and craft you'd bring to any customer-facing product. That's what makes this role different, and it's what I'm most excited about.
Let’s speak soon.
At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion
industry: which risks to take, and how to price them. These are decisions that shape real-world outcomes - whether rockets
successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings
together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision. We help them move faster,
act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally. We are already trusted by nearly 60 of the world's
largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every
stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do: from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer
programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how
this industry operates.
hxOS is hx's internal operating system. It's the platform every person in the company uses and builds on: devices, meeting rooms,
core applications, SSO, AI tools, data infrastructure, security and compliance. The Systems & Security (SYSSEC) team builds it,
runs it, and keeps improving it. It'll never be finished. That's the point.
hxOS is as much a vision as a current reality. The foundations are solid, day to day runs well because it has to, nothing gets
built on shaky ground. The more ambitious layers - federated, AI-native, product-led infrastructure that the whole business builds
on - are what the team is building now.
The Systems Associate is one of the most visible faces of SYSSEC. They're the first point of contact for everything coming into
the team, and the work ranges widely: a day might move from troubleshooting a device, to helping a team get more out of a new AI
integration, to contributing to a piece of infrastructure the whole company will rely on. What ties it together is ownership: of
the service experience, of the queue, and progressively of the platform itself.
The career story here is real. This person becomes hxOS's internal expert, the colleague people turn to when they want to
understand what's possible, get more out of their tools, or navigate something new. That's a rare combination of technical depth,
operational credibility, and genuine impact at the centre of how the company works.
This is an Associate/IC1 role, suited to a talented graduate or someone with a year or two behind them.
Own the front door. Triage, prioritise, route, and keep stakeholders informed on everything coming into SYSSEC, applying an
ITIL/ITSM lens to how work arrives, gets handled, and gets resolved. How it feels to reach out to SYSSEC starts and ends with how
this person shows up.
Improve the service, continuously. Good enough today is a problem tomorrow. Look for recurring patterns, find root causes, and
change the conditions that created them, through better templates, self-serve paths, proactive communication, and process work
that makes repeat tickets rarer over time.
Build things that reduce the work. Scripts, automations, integrations, paved-road workflows. Engineer toil out of the system
rather than just processing it, and contribute to the broader hxOS integration layer: connectors, routing logic, self-serve
tooling that makes the platform more capable over time.
Be a partner to the business. As the internal expert in hxOS, help colleagues get more out of their devices, applications, and AI
tools. This isn't ticket resolution, it's helping people understand what's possible and removing friction between them and a
platform designed to make them better at their jobs.
Contribute to strategic delivery. Around 20% of the role is higher-leverage work: contributing to platform design, supporting
infrastructure decisions, and building the technical foundations needed to take on bigger challenges over time.
Reliable under volume. Owns a queue without being chased, keeps work moving and stakeholders informed, and holds the same standard
whether it's a routine request or a change that touches critical infrastructure.
Builds rather than just processes. Comfortable writing scripts and configuring automations, thinks in repeatable patterns rather
than one-off fixes, and treats "make the next version of this job smaller" as the actual goal.
Already AI-native, not AI-curious. Uses AI tools as a natural part of everyday work: triage, documentation, automation
scaffolding, first-pass review. Has judgement about where it helps and where it doesn't, rather than reaching for it by default.
Figures things out unprompted. Given a problem, researches it, tests it, forms a view, and comes back with a recommendation rather
than a question. Comfortable with ambiguity, applies feedback fast, and is honest about what they do and don't know yet.
You'll become hxOS's internal expert: the person colleagues turn to when they want to understand what's possible, get more from
their tools, or work through something new. It's a rare mix of technical depth, operational credibility, and real visibility at
the centre of how the company runs, with a clear path from owning the queue to shaping the platform itself.
You're joining a generational business at a real inflection point. hx isn't an early-stage bet. We have nearly 60 of the world's
largest insurers as customers, exceptional NRR (genuinely rare) at 125%+, billions in premium flowing through the platform, and
backing from a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery. You get the rare combination: a varied craft role with the freedom to build, and
the strong backing of a company that's already winning.

ABOUT THE DESIGN TEAM We’ve just wrapped up a stellar first year of Design at hyperexponential. We have built a lean team of six, spanning Product Design, Brand Design, and Design Engineering, with experience from organisations like Miro, InVision, V7, Lakera, and QuantumBlack. Over the past year, we’ve reimagined both the platform and the hx brand through our new design language, Xpression, giving hx a distinct edge in an increasingly competitive market. We’re a tight-knit, highly creative group who believe in showing rather than telling, staying curious, and pushing for deep craft excellence. We value systems thinkers, creative flare, generalists and specialists, and the kind of genuine collaboration and trusted relationships needed for radical candour. At hx, design leads from the front and not the sidelines. We are proud of our work so far and understand the responsibility to help our organisation see what comes next. As we grow, we’re intentional about bringing in designers with unique skill sets and perspectives - people who can elevate the team and expand what we’re capable of. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING * Designing intuitive, accessible product experiences across the hx platform, translating complex problems into clear, usable solutions with a focus on evolving our model developer experience from 0 → 1. * Partnering with product managers, engineers, and researchers to support discovery, ideation, and delivery on well-scoped product initiatives. * Contributing components and patterns to our design language system, Xpression, helping ensure consistency and quality across the product. * Maintaining a high bar for design craft through thoughtful interaction design, visual clarity, and iterative improvement based on feedback and data. * Using AI tools within your own workflow to support research synthesis, exploration, and prototyping, helping the team move faster without sacrificing quality. * Supporting AI-native discovery and collaboration by bringing structured design thinking into cross-functional work. WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE DONE * Experience designing end-to-end product experiences that are grounded in user needs and deliver clear value. * Hands-on experience working within a design system, including contributing or refining components and patterns. * A strong foundation in design craft, with attention to usability, accessibility, and interaction quality. * Experience collaborating closely with Product and Engineering in a cross-functional product team. * Demonstrable use of AI-enabled tools in your design workflow, applied thoughtfully to enhance—not replace—human judgment. * Clear communication skills and comfort participating in critique, feedback, and collaborative problem-solving. IS THIS ROLE FOR YOU? Time for some candour. Stepping into a new role is a big decision and we want to be transparent about what it feels like to work in the Design team and the type of mindset that helps people thrive at hx. Does this align with your own approach? * AI maximalists - We’re all-in on AI. As a lean team, It’s central to our pace, our craft, and our workflow. Every day we’re experimenting, inventing, and building our technical acumen. If that excites you, you’ll fit right in. * Owning ambiguity - Everyone here shares the responsibility of navigating ambiguity. As Designers, we operate with a high degree of autonomy and are expected to lead others through shifting problem spaces with clarity and conviction. * Radical candour - We separate our identity from our ideas. It’s the only way to build the trust required for real conversations and for producing our best work. Feedback flows freely here because we’re optimising for the success of the collective, not the ego of the individual. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be where you’ll do your best work. We’re building something that asks for commitment and conviction - and we want you to feel genuinely excited by the chance to grow with us. COMPENSATION At hx, we’re committed to salary transparency. You’ll always have clarity on pay early in the process - our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations - and we’re working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally. Because we’re building at the intersection of technology/SaaS and insurance, our roles don’t always map neatly onto traditional benchmarks. Our approach is to design compensation that’s competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make. Equity: We offer equity across all roles at hx, making it a significant component of total compensation. Your talent partner will be able to share more details about this. ABOUT THE TEAM The Customer and Consulting team sits at the heart of how hx delivers lasting value to its clients. As hx continues to expand across global carriers, reinsurers, and specialist MGAs, this team ensures that customers don't just adopt the platform, they transform the way they price and underwrite risk. The post-sale Solution Architect is a critical part of that mission, responsible for making sure the hx platform is deeply embedded in customer ecosystems, from reporting pipelines to security infrastructure and third-party integrations. This is a team that operates at the intersection of technical depth and customer partnership. The work is hands-on and high-stakes: translating complex customer environments into durable, scalable technical solutions, while building the kind of trusted relationships that drive adoption, margin, and long-term value. You will work closely with Customer Success and Delivery colleagues, acting as the technical anchor across multi-threaded customer engagements. The team is growing, and there is real scope to shape how the Solution Architect function scales. Whether you are designing AI-first delivery artefacts, contributing reusable patterns to a shared toolkit, or presenting architecture decisions to a Chief Information Officer, your work will directly influence the outcomes customers achieve, and the reputation hx builds in the market. Check out our Client Services Candidate Hub for a behind the scenes look at the team you would be joining! WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING * Own the technical relationship with a portfolio of strategic customers, becoming the trusted advisor who anticipates challenges, aligns delivery to outcomes, and ensures the hx platform is embedded confidently within each customer's ecosystem. * Design and deliver bespoke integrations between hx and a range of customer technologies, including policy administration systems, data warehouses, BI tooling, and identity providers, applying sound architectural judgement throughout. * Drive customer adoption and platform usage by developing structured value realisation plans that translate technical delivery into measurable business outcomes, including faster quote turnarounds, reduced pricing errors, and stronger MI capability. * Build AI-first consulting and delivery artefacts that raise the bar for how the team works, creating reusable frameworks, templates, and innovation outputs that can be shared across the broader SA toolkit. * Support project margin outcomes by managing delivery scope, surfacing risks early, and coordinating effectively with Customer Success Managers, Delivery Leads, and customer-side technical teams. * Contribute to team capability by sharing patterns, leading internal show-and-tell sessions, and helping to codify best practices as the Solution Architect function grows and scales. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE DONE * Able to code to a high standard using Python. * Supported the technical delivery of SaaS platform integrations in a team setting. It’s beneficial if you also have experience with AWS architecture, SQL, and a foundational understanding from a computer science or software development background. * Built and maintained positive technical relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including IT and data teams, by communicating effectively across different priorities and environments. * Helped communicate technical choices and delivery progress to non-technical stakeholders, using clear, outcome-driven explanations that link integration work to business value. * Gained experience in a post-sale or customer-facing technical role—such as Junior Solution Architect, Technical Support, or Implementation Analyst—where you supported the delivery process or customer needs. * Used AI or automation tools to enhance the quality, speed, or consistency of your work, with an understanding of where these technologies can add value. * Supported the management of delivery processes, such as helping to plan project phases, identify risks, or coordinate with internal or external teams to meet project timelines. YOU'RE UNLIKELY TO THRIVE HERE IF * You prefer to stay in a narrow technical lane and hand off customer communication to others; this role requires genuine ownership across both the technical design and the stakeholder relationship. * You need a fully defined brief before getting started; ambiguity is a constant here, and the best work comes from people who move confidently without waiting for perfect information. * You measure success by delivery completion rather than customer outcomes; at hx, adoption, margin, and measurable value are the real bar. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you'll do your best work.
