About the job
As an Engineering Manager at Telavox, you’ll lead our Telephony Team, responsible for developing people, strengthening team performance, and aligning engineering efforts with business and product goals.
The Telephony Team works on core telephony capabilities and collaborates closely with other engineering and product teams. You’ll help shape effective processes and ways of working, manage dependencies, and ensure clear technical contracts and interfaces between teams.
You’ll work closely with engineers, Product, and other stakeholders, contributing to technical discussions and architectural decisions while ensuring the team delivers scalable and sustainable solutions.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Leading, coaching, and developing the Telephony Team, supporting growth, performance, and well-being
- Establishing effective processes and ways of working, adding structure where needed and removing it where it isn’t
- Creating clarity when priorities shift and translating business needs into clear plans
- Partnering with Product on priorities, roadmaps, and outcomes; delivering a highly scalable and competitive telephony platform
- Collaborating with other Engineering Managers and teams on dependencies, technical contracts, and interfaces
- Contributing to technical and architectural decisions and ensuring long-term scalability, availability, and maintainability
- Contributing to hiring and building a strong, inclusive, and diverse engineering team in a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Helping shape the broader engineering strategy, technical direction, and culture across engineering teams
About you
You’re a confident engineering leader who is comfortable with ambiguity, able to create clarity, and interested in understanding the bigger picture. As the leader of the Telephony Team, you’ll work across a broad technical landscape, from core telephony to cloud, software architecture, and operations. You don’t need to be an expert in every area, but you have solid technical understanding, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
You may come from a Senior or Lead Engineer background and stay close enough to technology to make sound decisions around architecture, quality, reliability, and trade-offs.
Key skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Proven experience leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or similar
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and developing individuals
- Experience creating effective processes, ways of working, and structures that help teams perform
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to turn changing priorities into clear direction
- Solid technical understanding and curiosity across different technologies and domains
- Experience working with production software where reliability, quality, and maintainability matter
- Ability to connect engineering decisions to product and business priorities, and challenge constructively when needed
- Passion for building a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
Good-to-have skills:
- Good understanding of telephony concepts such as SIP, RTP, and related technologies
- Experience from a SaaS or B2B environment
- Familiarity with cloud architecture, event-driven systems, and DevOps practices
- Interest in using AI tooling to improve engineering ways of working
