At AQEMIA, team members are encouraged to contribute their expertise, learn from one another, and play an active role in shaping the future of drug invention.   About our Engineering Department The Engineering team (~12 people) builds and scales the technical foundations that power Aqemia’s drug discovery engine.   Bringing together expertise across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), and scientific computing, the team designs and operates robust, secure, and high-performance platforms that enable Aqemia’s scientific and AI teams to experiment, train, deploy, and run models at scale.   Their work spans data infrastructure, scientific compute systems, cloud operations, orchestration, observability, CI/CD, developer tooling, and platform scalability. By transforming cutting-edge research into reliable and scalable systems, the team accelerates the discovery of new medicines while ensuring operational excellence and an outstanding developer experience. As Engineering Manager of the Compute team, you will lead a team of 5 engineers responsible for building and evolving the compute platform that powers AQEMIA's scientific simulations, machine learning workloads, and large-scale experimentation. You will combine strong engineering leadership with technical credibility to grow a high-performing team while delivering reliable and scalable platform capabilities.

This position is a permanent contract (CDI) based in Paris.   💼 ABOUT THE JOB Own and scale the data platform * Build, maintain, and improve our data warehouse, transformation layer, and platform architecture (including the critical link between PostgreSQL and our GCP data lake) to make our stack faster, more reliable, and more resilient. Raise engineering standards across the data stack * Drive CI/CD practices, staging environments, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), access management, and release management — bringing a platform engineering mindset to data. Ensure observability and platform reliability * Lead incident management, data quality monitoring, lineage, and documentation efforts to ensure the platform remains trustworthy and easy to operate for analysts, product teams, and AI practitioners. Shape technical decisions and enable the team * Take ownership of complex architectural decisions (including tooling audits, e.g. Datastream), * Contribute to AI data use cases (BigQuery integrations with tools like Dust, Claude Code, and Nao), * Mentor other data practitioners on engineering best practices, * Share knowledge, document decisions, and contribute to raising engineering standards across the team.   🧰 YOU WILL WORK WITH GCP, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL, Terraform, Kubernetes, Argo Workflow, Airflow, AirByte, dbt, Python, GitHub, CI/CD, Looker, Metabase   🧩 ABOUT YOU To succeed in this job * 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, ideally in a fast-growing tech environment, with hands-on experience building and maintaining modern data platforms and orchestration workflows * Strong command of cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), Kubernetes, and Python — you're comfortable owning both the data and the platform layer * Analytical mindset with a strong capacity to challenge the status quo — you don't just build, you question whether we're building the right thing * Fluency in French and English   And it will be nice if you also * Have specific experience with GCP and BigQuery at scale * Have worked with dbt for data transformation * Have experience operating in or alongside an SRE or Platform Engineering culture   Don't meet every single requirement? The Platform Tribe groups the DevX squad and the Site Reliability Engineering quad. The members of the tribe are responsible for building the foundational infrastructure, security layers, and core systems that empower Alma's entire product and engineering organization to scale reliably.  You will join a dedicated squad focused entirely on the daily lives of our engineers: Our mission is to eliminate friction from a developer's machine all the way to production. We build, optimize, and maintain the delivery systems, local development environments, and CI/CD automation that allow our product teams to ship high-quality code safely, frequently, and with absolute confidence. This is a full-time position, based in Paris or fully remote in France.   💼 ABOUT THE JOB * Own and continuously optimize our CI/CD pipelines and delivery workflows, ensuring fast feedback loops and secure deployments. * Build and evolve the local developer experience, making it seamless for engineers to spin up, test, and debug services locally across a variety of languages and frameworks. * Own and maintain part of our cloud infrastructure and container orchestration platforms using Terraform and Kubernetes. And it will be nice if you also * Have production-grade proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (not necessarily Terraform) and container orchestration (not necessarily Kubernetes). * Are familiar with an observability and monitoring stack (Datadog, Prometheus, or equivalent). * Have worked with local development environment tooling (Nix, mise, asdf, devenv, devcontainers, etc.). * Working knowledge of at least one language from Alma's stack (Python, TypeScript, or PHP), enough to read, debug, and contribute when needed.
