The mission of the Developer Observability team is to deliver a product suite that provides this clarity, empowering customers with not only the necessary troubleshooting insights but also the guidance to implement industry best practices and ensure their integrations are continuously optimized for future innovation.    We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the team, and contribute to: * A full-stack team of Frontend and Backend engineers who like to balance robust design with lean development, by validating concepts with minimal effort and then being able to shift to highly reliable systems   * Building and maintaining a large data tech stack (PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch) that underpins products like API Logs and the Developer Dashboard to deliver near-real time insights. Additionally, collaborating closely with the data engineering team to surface performance trends and contextualized guidance * Working with various teams across the organization to deliver a seamless and consistent integration experience for customers   What you’ll do: * You will bring a new perspective on best engineering practices, improvements, and opportunities * You will lead complex technical projects from requirements analysis through architectural design, implementation, testing, and launch into production * You will also work closely with the product team to understand the scope of changes for our customers * Championing security, compliance and reliability challenges * You will mentor and guide other engineers to improve their technical skills and make informed decisions * We launch fast and iterate often. Concretely, this means that within your first few weeks, you will bring live functionalities that impact many merchants and shoppers * Collaborate across teams and time zones to get projects over the finish line   Who you are: * Currently working as a Senior Software Engineer or at a similar level, with demonstrated knowledge of building Java web services and designing performant relational database models (preferably PostgreSQL). Experience in Kafka and/or Elasticsearch is a plus. * You have strong problem-solving skills, are comfortable navigating evolving priorities, and adapting quickly to unforeseen challenges * You enjoy elevating the software creation process, system design, reliability, testing, and general problem-solving of the team and broader organization * You have great communication skills and can articulate complex technical vision and strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholders * You are skilled at collaborating with various people, including senior leaders, Product Managers, and other Software Engineers * You are experienced in leading technical projects in a fast-paced environment * You are a flexible team player with an eye for detail * You proactively share what you learn with the larger engineering community * Open to some domestic and international travel * Added bonus: if you have worked in customer developer experience (e.g. tooling, observability) or payment related teams in the past   Minimum qualifications: * 7+ years of experience in the software development industry  * Full professional proficiency in English * This role is based out of our San Francisco office. Capital is the next growth frontier as Adyen grows into a comprehensive financial service provider beyond Payments. This is a rapidly growing space, giving you the opportunity to influence the strategy, own the roadmap, explore and deploy AI first product development, and see it through from early build to a scaled product. As an engineering leader, you’ll work closely with partners across engineering, product, commercial, and operations to deliver a best-in-class Issuing solution that serves both enterprise clients and embedded finance partners. This San Francisco-based role is part of the broader Financial Products organization, which owns the full suite of financial services at Adyen. What You'll Do: * Drive the Roadmap: Develop and execute the technical roadmap for expanding the richness of our Issuing proposition globally, translating ambitious business goals into world-class technical reality. * Technical Authority and Excellence: Act as a technical leader and domain expert for Issuing, challenging and driving technical design and solutions to ensure an exceptionally high technical bar. You will be the point person for product technical decisions, speaking for the product across the organization and to customers. * People & Performance: Coach, mentor, and build a high-performing team from the ground up. You will be responsible for performance management, professional development, and maintaining a culture of rapid, top-notch execution. * Execution & Ownership: Work closely with Product Managers to manage project goals and timelines while proactively addressing technical debt, and enforcing best engineering practices. What You'll Do: * People Leadership: 3+ years of experience in people management, with a proven ability to build, retain, and constructively grow high-performance engineering teams. * Technical Depth: You possess a high technical bar and in-depth knowledge of how to build and scale a world-class, API-based financial service. You should be comfortable discussing and challenging decisions made by Senior+ engineers, and working with our tech stack: Java, Postgres, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elastic. * Execution Mindset: Strong execution skills are paramount. Who you are: * Familiar with complex large scale distributed systems. * You have experience with Java, Web Services, REST Apis, Webhooks and SQL/PostgreSql. * You have a good understanding of Software Engineering practices and interest in product knowledge. * You enjoy working in a cross-functional team with roles like Data Science, Frontend, and Product. * You value involving other people to hear different perspectives. * You have an experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality.
