Job Overview

Role Summary

An experienced Linux System Administrator is needed for a consulting assignment focused on designing, building, and maintaining a GPU-enabled Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. The platform supports remote graphical workloads for high-performance computing (HPC), including simulation, visualization, and rendering use cases. It is built on Rocky Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), using X11 and desktop environments such as Xfce4 to provide high-performance remote sessions.

The assignment involves platform engineering, automation, architecture, and operational ownership for a scalable, secure, and sustainable Linux-based remote desktop environment. The platform leverages NICE DCV, EnginFrame, and SLURM to deliver GPU-accelerated remote access and workload capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, operate, and continuously improve a Linux-based GPU-enabled VDI platform.

Build and maintain automation and Infrastructure-as-Code to enable consistent, repeatable deployments and configuration management.

Develop automation primarily using Ansible and maintain supporting scripts for platform administration and operational workflows.

Ensure platform stability, performance, security, scalability, and long-term maintainability in a GPU-accelerated environment.

Collaborate closely with HPC and infrastructure engineering teams on platform design, integration, and operational requirements.

Document architecture, configurations, deployment workflows, and operational procedures to support a governed and sustainable environment.

Contribute to monitoring and observability capabilities for the infrastructure and remote desktop services.

Technical Stack & Requirements

Linux administration, with strong experience in Rocky Linux and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code using Ansible or comparable tools.

Scripting skills, primarily in Bash; Python experience is advantageous.

Version control and CI/CD tooling, including Git and GitLab.

Linux graphical technologies, including X11, Xfce4, GNOME, and remote rendering or display protocols.

Remote visualization and VDI technologies such as NICE DCV, EnginFrame/EF Portal, Open OnDemand, or similar platforms.

HPC environments and workload scheduling with SLURM are advantageous.

Networking, security, and monitoring/observability tooling; Prometheus-based observability is preferred.

Container technologies such as Docker and Podman are beneficial.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate has solid hands-on experience as a Linux System Administrator and is comfortable taking ownership of complex infrastructure environments independently. Strong automation and architectural capabilities are required, with the ability to design systems that remain scalable and maintainable over time. Experience working with HPC environments, GPU-enabled workloads, and remote graphical application delivery is highly advantageous.
