WHAT YOU’LL DO * Building, optimizing and scaling robust financial backend systems using Node.js and SQL (Postgres) * Working primarily in the backend while contributing to our cloud infrastructure, helping design and operate systems across networking, servers and database architectures to support scalable and reliable services. * Contributing to system architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability of financial systems. * Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to shape both product direction and business strategy. * Sharing backend expertise with the team while promoting best practices, along with strong cloud and infrastructure competence. Our main stack is TypeScript, Node.js, React, React Native running on Google Cloud Platform. HOW WE THINK ABOUT BUILDING We’re pragmatic. You’re comfortable with things like: * Strong background in backend development with Node.js and SQL databases (preferably Postgres). * Experience in designing, deploying and monitoring solutions on major cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS or Azure. * At least 5 years of professional experience, ideally in high-stakes environments like finance. * Passionate about solving complex backend problems with clean, pragmatic solutions. * Solid understanding of system design and architecture. * Bonus if you’ve worked with React, Python, Go, GraphQL, Kubernetes or DevOps with Github Actions. Key Responsibilities Full-Stack System Design & Implementation: * Design and build backend services in Go for distributed, cloud-native applications. * Build frontend applications that connect users to data, workflows and AI-powered capabilities. * Build APIs and event-driven components across e-commerce, logistics, data and AI platforms. * Design systems with scalability, resilience and observability in mind. Database Design & Data Ownership: * Design application-level data models and database schemas. * Make informed trade-offs between storage approaches. * Understand query patterns and performance implications. * Integrate operational systems with analytics and ML pipelines. Agentic AI Applications: * Build production-grade agentic AI applications that integrate LLMs with real systems and workflows. * Design services that enable AI agents to act safely with business data. * Collaborate with ML and data engineers to operationalize AI in real products — not demos. * Help define guardrails and patterns for reliable AI-driven systems. Engineering Excellence: * Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code across backend and frontend. * Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions. * Build automated tests and CI/CD pipelines. * Take responsibility for production reliability and incident resolution. * Improve engineering standards, tooling and AI-assisted coding workflows. We are looking for someone with: * Strong experience as a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer building production systems. * Proven experience with Go (Golang) in backend environments. * Solid understanding of distributed systems and modern architectures. * Experience building frontend applications. * Experience with database design and application data modeling. * Strong fundamentals: testing, versioning, CI/CD, documentation and code quality. * Ownership mindset and ability to balance speed and quality. * Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude. Nice to Have * Experience with A/B testing or experimentation frameworks. * Familiarity with event-driven architectures and streaming systems. * Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures. * Experience building AI-powered or agentic applications. * Exposure to high-scale e-commerce, logistics or data-heavy environments. * Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation. As a senior member of the Platform team, you will design, build and maintain the toolchains and workflows that help our teams manage the full life-cycle of their systems – including tools, libraries for our common languages, templates, automation, and configurations. You'll work across observability, deployment pipelines, quality assurance, availability, the runtime platform. A key focus of this role is our ML platform capabilities. With AI and LLMs becoming a strategic part of how Storytel builds product experiences we need someone who can shape the paved road for ML workloads on Google Cloud and Vertex AI – making it easy for product teams to develop, deploy, and operate ML-powered features safely and reliably. Python is the lingua franca of this space and a key language for the role. You'll also coach and unblock developers in their daily work, help them get the most out of the platform, and lead initiatives that improve developer experience across the organisation. You have high standards and a vision for where the platform should go, but you also understand the constraints of working in a small organisation and know how to ship value incrementally. * At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with solid hands-on development skills.. * Strong experience with container technologies, Kubernetes, and distributed systems in production. * Strong experience with a major cloud provider – ideally Google Cloud Platform. * Experience working in DevEx-adjacent areas such as deployment pipelines, observability and monitoring, quality assurance, automation, self-service tooling, or runtime platforms. * An ability to communicate fluently in English (written and spoken) and to collaborate effectively across teams – this role does not work in isolation.
