Job description and responsibilities We are expanding our Semiconductor Devices department and looking for a Cleanroom Process Technician to take ownership of the well-defined microfabrication process steps that bring our transistors to life. As our process technician, you will master these steps and run them consistently and with care, making you a central part of how our devices are actually made. You will spend much of your time in a modern cleanroom, operating advanced fabrication equipment according to established recipes, conducting routine measurements and inspections on wafers, and clearly documenting your findings for the engineering team. The role is practical and detail-oriented, offering opportunities to expand your skills across various tools and processes over time. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: • Cleanroom fabrication steps such as photolithography, wet and dry etching, thin film deposition, metal lift-off, and wafer dicing. • On-wafer device measurements, optical and SEM inspection, and film thickness and recess metrology. • Sample preparation, reliability-test execution, and clear data logging and documentation. • First-line troubleshooting and supporting the engineers on new processes. About the research project This project is a proof-of-concept effort aimed at demonstrating a reliable post-fabrication trimming process for Josephson junctions in superconducting qubits. Unlike open-ended exploratory research, this project is goal-oriented and experimentally driven. It requires both careful physical interpretation and structured technical validation. You will take primary responsibility for planning and executing the experimental program in collaboration with senior researchers. While the role does not include formal personnel management, scientific initiative and independence are highly expected. Key responsibilities include: Designing and executing cryogenic experiments. Characterizing Josephson junctions and superconducting circuits. Analyzing device behavior and degradation mechanisms. Correlating electrical performance with material properties (aging, interfaces, coherence). Contributing to reproducible superconducting qubit fabrication workflows within WACQT. The project is closely connected to ongoing superconducting quantum processor development efforts within WACQT. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: A PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong experimental research experience in superconducting devices, quantum devices, low-temperature physics, nanoscience, or related areas. Experience with at least one of the following:programming experience in Python MATLAB or similar tools for data analysis and experiment automation. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. The role includes: Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components and subassemblies according to technical drawings, work instructions, and quality standards Perform precision fine-mechanical operations such as cutting, filing, deburring, polishing, and fitting of small parts Solder, crimp, and connect wiring and RF/coaxial cables where required, following IPC or company soldering procedures Conduct visual inspections and functional tests; document results and identify nonconformities Calibrate and adjust components to meet tight tolerances and performance specifications Work closely with R&D and quality teams to support prototype builds and iterative design improvements Maintain a clean, organized work place and adhere to safety, ESD, and handling protocols for sensitive components Required skills and qualifications: Vocational training or technical diploma in mechanical engineering, precision mechanics, or a related trade, or equivalent hands-on experience Proven experience in assembly and fine mechanical work, ideally with small, high-precision components Good manual dexterity and experience using hand tools, microscopes, tweezers, and measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers) Basic soldering skills and familiarity with wiring and cable assembly Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and bill of materials Strong attention to detail and the ability to work precisely under time constraints Fluency in professional English, spoken and written Preferable skills: Experience with cleanroom procedures or working in controlled environments Experience in reading technical reports and ERP systems Knowledge of quality systems and experience with inspection documentation Familiarity with basic testing equipment and methods for electromechanical assemblies Experience with cryogenic hardware, vacuum systems, or RF/coax assemblies - this is more of a good-to-have experience and not a requirement We are looking for someone who is: Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
