Join us to create a new and better aging experience for our clients, their families, and our Care Professionals. ABOUT THE WORK This position is on our Applied AI team, which is responsible for helping Honor safely and pragmatically apply AI across our operating model, product systems, and internal workflows. The mission of the Applied AI team is to help Honor become an organization that learns faster, remembers more, and continuously compounds what it learns over time. We believe the most valuable use of AI at Honor is not isolated task automation, but building durable organizational intelligence: systems that retain operational context, surface relevant prior learning, support better decisions, and help teams turn fragmented insights into repeatable improvements. Honor operates in a deeply relationship-driven industry. The best home care operators personalize service because they remember the details, understand context, and adapt to the situation. At Honor’s scale, that requires thoughtful systems: reliable context, governed access, reusable AI patterns, traceable workflows, and product experiences that help humans and agents make better decisions together. As a Senior Engineer on Applied AI, you will help design, build, and productionize the foundations that make this possible. You may work on systems that power AI-assisted sales follow-up, operational defect analysis, reusable memory and retrieval patterns, internal agentic tools, AI-powered data analysis, schedulable workflows, or closed-loop feedback systems that connect audits, product changes, and measurable business outcomes. You will work closely with engineering, product, design, data, operations, security, and business stakeholders to move quickly while maintaining the discipline needed for production systems. This team is highly exploratory, but the work is not a lab exercise. We are looking for engineers who can turn ambiguous AI opportunities into safe, reliable, measurable product and platform capabilities. We have an exciting runway ahead of us. As AI becomes an operational layer across Honor, we need engineers who can help create the paved roads: secure model access, compliant data pathways, observability, cost controls, evaluation patterns, human-in-the-loop workflows, and reusable architecture that allows teams across Honor to adopt AI without creating long-term fragmentation. ABOUT YOU * You thrive in a diverse, cross-functional team, collaborating with design, product management, data, operations, security, and other engineering teams. * You are excited by ambiguous, high-leverage problems where the right answer requires both technical judgment and operational empathy. * You enjoy building production-grade systems that connect user-facing workflows, backend services, data pipelines, and AI/LLM capabilities. * You’ve built and maintained production-grade features in Python, or have transferable experience in common languages like Node.js and are willing to learn Python. * You know how to design reliable data models and have used relational databases at scale. * You have been a key contributor to the design and implementation of large, complex projects. * You are comfortable working in and refactoring legacy, monolithic systems while also designing new services and integration patterns. * You are a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing, and can explain technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences. * You think carefully about quality, observability, privacy, security, and operational risk. * You are excited to work with AI systems in a way that is pragmatic, measurable, and grounded in real business outcomes. * You are willing to participate in an on-call rotation in collaboration with our tier 1 support team. SOME, OR ALL, OF THESE ARE TRUE * You have experience building LLM-powered products, AI agents, retrieval systems, memory systems, or evaluation frameworks. * You have worked with model providers or platforms such as AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar systems. * You have experience with secure data access patterns, RBAC, auditability, or compliant data workflows. * You have built internal tools, workflow automation, or systems that support operations teams at scale. * You are comfortable working with messy operational data and turning it into reliable product or platform capabilities. * You have experience designing systems that involve human-in-the-loop review, feedback loops, or measurable quality improvement. * You are knowledgeable about microservice architecture and best practices. * You have experience working with an RPC architecture. * You are comfortable with frontend development and have experience with JavaScript frameworks like React. * You have experience leveraging observability and monitoring tools like DataDog. * You enjoy mentoring and spreading knowledge to other engineers. * You are energized by building foundations that help other teams move faster and more safely. TECH YOU MAY USE * Python * Thrift * MySQL * AWS * AWS Bedrock * OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar model platforms * JavaScript * React * Looker * GitHub * DataDog * Internal agentic tools and workflow automation platforms #LI-Remote Our range reflects the hiring range for this position. WHO WE ARE Sapien is rethinking how finance teams operate in the age of AI. We’re building toward an autonomous CFO—systems that run company financials end-to-end. Our platform analyzes complex financial data in real time to increase decision cadence, prevent costly mistakes, and surface value. Sapien has caught multi-million-dollar errors, saved thousands of jobs, and returned significant dollars to customers’ bottom lines. We partner with traditional businesses—manufacturing, healthcare, restaurants, and large enterprises—to deeply understand and automate their financial workflows. We’re HQ’d by Madison Square Park in NYC and backed by General Catalyst, Neo, and top operators from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Ramp, and Stripe (over $9M raised). THE ROLE You'll design and build the interfaces that make AI agents usable for finance teams. This means creating new interaction patterns for how humans work with autonomous systems, building the design systems that scale across our platform, and obsessing over the details that make complex workflows feel simple. This is a design-focused frontend role where craft and user experience matter deeply. You'll own the visual and interaction design of features while implementing them in production. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Design and build interfaces that make agent operations transparent and controllable. Create new interaction patterns for real-time AI workflows, verification systems, and human-in-the-loop feedback that don't exist yet. * Prototype and iterate rapidly on new interface concepts. Work directly with customers to test designs, watch how they interact with features, and refine based on real usage. * Design information hierarchies that surface the right data at the right time. Help users understand complex financial operations, agent reasoning, and data relationships without overwhelming them. * Establish design standards and documentation that help the team ship consistent, high-quality interfaces as we scale. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Product thinking about user experience. You've designed features, tested them with users, and iterated based on how people actually use them. * Experience building or contributing to design systems. You understand component architecture, tokens, consistency, and how design scales across a product. * Ability to balance beauty with function. You care about aesthetics but know when to prioritize usability, performance, and shipping. * Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript. You can implement your designs in production-quality code, not just hand off mockup * CS degree or equivalent experience. We care most about what you've built. HOW YOU WORK (VALUES WE CARE ABOUT) * Ownership: You see designs through to production. You don't stop at mockups. You implement them, refine interactions based on how they feel in the browser, and fix polish issues until it's right. * Opinionated: You have strong perspectives on what makes good design and aren't afraid to advocate for user experience. You push back on features that would make the product worse and propose better solutions. * Mission-driven: You understand that interface decisions determine whether finance teams trust and adopt AI. You care about building products that transform how businesses run. * Collaborative excellence: You elevate the team's design thinking. You give thoughtful feedback on interfaces, share design patterns and techniques, and raise the bar for polish across the product.
We’re HQ’d by Madison Square Park in NYC and backed by General Catalyst, Neo, and top operators from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Ramp, and Stripe (over $9M raised). THE ROLE You'll build the AI agent capabilities that power Sapien's autonomous finance operations. This means designing novel architectures for reasoning over complex financial data, implementing verifiable and observable agent workflows, and building systems that learn and adapt to each company's unique operations. This is a research-meets-product role. You'll work on cutting-edge agent capabilities—from observability and library learning to semantic search and multi-modal parsing—and ship them directly into production for customers. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Design and implement agent architectures that enable observability, human-in-the-loop verification, and precise context control across complex financial workflows. * Build library learning systems that reduce LLM dependencies by learning reusable patterns for planning, code generation, and data localization from customer interactions. * Create graph-based company representations and develop efficient search methods using embeddings, semantic clustering, and custom retrieval strategies. * Build multi-modal parsers that unify diverse financial data sources (Excel, ERPs, CRMs) into coherent, queryable schemas that agents can reason over. * Design benchmarking and evaluation suites that quantify Sapien's accuracy, reliability, and business impact across different customer workflows. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Strong algorithmic thinking. Demonstrated through ML research, competitive programming, mathematics, or building novel systems from scratch. * Experience with modern agent frameworks, LLMs, and AI systems: fine-tuning, retrieval augmentation, tool use, or agentic architectures. * Comfort working end-to-end: from implementing research ideas and prototyping architectures to deploying production systems and iterating on real customer feedback. HOW YOU WORK (VALUES WE CARE ABOUT) * Adaptability: You thrive on diverse, open-ended problems. One day you're implementing a new agent architecture, the next you're debugging a customer data issue—and you bring the same intensity to both. * Ownership: You take problems from research paper to production. You don't wait for direction—you identify what needs to happen and drive it to completion. * Opinionated: You have strong technical perspectives on what works and what doesn't. You push back on approaches you disagree with and make the team's thinking sharper. * Mission-driven: You're energized by building AI that transforms how businesses run. In this role, you will serve as a versatile generalist data scientist who can help guide our company's adoption of agentic AI development. As we rapidly integrate new technologies into our platform, practical applied experience in the AI space is a baseline requirement for our team. Building on that foundation, we are looking for a candidate who brings expertise in either Agentic AI OR Optimization Algorithms. About the work: * Leverage data to solve a wide variety of meaningful, business problems using the appropriate level of technical complexity. * Partner closely with Engineering, PM, and Care Operations to collaboratively define strategy and execute against it. * Design and implement robust frameworks and metrics to measure whether data products are functioning as expected and driving business impact. * Research operational/logistical problems and proactively identify potential solutions. * Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of descriptive and predictive models. * Champion the use of LLM-driven workflows across the company. Partner with Engineering to design architectures and build production-ready systems that leverage agents in our core product features as well as in tools that drive developer productivity. About you: * 7+ years of professional experience solving complex business problems, and shipping/maintaining Python in a production environment. * You possess a strong foundation in traditional predictive machine learning (e.g., classification, regression, tree-based models like XGBoost) and know when to use standard models versus LLMs. * Deep professional expertise in at least one of the following two areas: * Optimization: Formulating and solving complex logistical/allocation problems (e.g., linear/integer programming) in a business setting. * Agentic AI: Deep technical depth in building, orchestrating, and establishing best practices for agentic systems (e.g., utilizing LLMs for autonomous decision-making and tool-use). You have concrete experience building agentic workflows that drive business impact. * You set success metrics upfront and proactively investigate how your technical solutions influence overarching business goals. * Excellent mathematical and statistical foundations, including a degree in a quantitative field (such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics) or equivalent professional experience. * You are able to manage product ambiguity, seeking clarity when necessary, to ensure that we are solving the right problem and driving measurable outcomes. * You rapidly iterate and deliver technical solutions that maximize business impact. * Clear and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse, non-technical stakeholders. You are accountable end-to-end for the entire project lifecycle. You proactively anticipate and drive resolution for potential issues across dependencies. Bonus points if you have professional experience with: * Experience designing experiments and applying causal inference methods to rigorously determine business impact. * Experience developing systems to optimize portfolio allocation in a two-sided marketplace (e.g., ideal matches of people needing and providing care, hiring needs, demand forecasting). * Familiarity with modern MLOps practices, cloud platforms (AWS), containerization (Docker), or CI/CD pipelines. * Experience working with sensitive data, including PII or PHI, within a strict, HIPAA-compliant environment.
