About us Hacksaw Studios is a Stockholm-based game studio focused on creating innovative, high-quality gaming experiences. We have wide distribution, and our games are played by millions of people every month by players all over the world. We are currently seeking to expand our development team with additional developers and are looking for both junior and senior candidates. You will be part of our game development team and work in a tight-knit team involving both back-end developers and designers. The Role As a Game Developer at Hacksaw Studios, you’ll play a key role in transforming game concepts into high-performing experiences. Your task will be to bring our game ideas to life in co-operation with the designers and product owners. Your key responsibilities include: Working with the development and design team to implement the backend gameplay mechanics behind our various games Working with the front-end development team to ensure the backend communications protocols make their work as simple as possible Working with the game design team to implement their game ideas Implementing the mathematical model underlying the games Performing statistical modeling and testing to ensure the games behave as intended (We'll teach you this part) Learning about the online gaming industry and staying up to date on current trends and what is popular with players Participating in code reviews and merge requests Co-operating with colleagues with similar roles, both in-house and with our partners What We’re Looking For: You value clean code, smart solutions, and the impact your work has behind the scenes. You bring: A solid backend development background. Experience with a programming language suited for game development, such as C#, Java or C++ (We use C#). A high interest in or education in mathematics or statistics. Nice-to-have: Experience with unit testing. University degree in a related field. A personal interest in gaming. We’re now expanding our tech team and looking for skilled Framework Developers who want to help us build and refine the foundation that powers our games. The Role As a Framework Developer at Hacksaw Studios, you’ll work together with our game development teams to deliver the features and tools they rely on. The work includes both building new functionality and maintaining, refining and optimising existing code. You'll think holistically about each feature you implement, how it impacts long term developer productivity, usability and performance across memory, GPU and CPU. The framework team is also responsible for areas such as CI pipelines, end-to-end tests and build scripts (including asset optimization and more). Depending on your interests and skillset there is a wide range of technologies you can dive into. We keep meetings to a minimum and there is a lot of freedom and responsibility in prioritising tasks and defining scopes, perfect for someone who communicates well, enjoys finding the right solution and likes having focused time to get things done. Your key responsibilities include: Develop and maintain features, tools, and systems used by our game teams. Improve performance, usability, and reliability across our framework. Considering long-term implications of implmentations, including developer experience, usability and performance. Collaborate with developers and designers to identify and solve technical challenges. Participate in reviews and provide feedback on code and implementation. What We’re Looking For: Experience with one or more programming languages suited for game development, such as C#, C++, TypeScript or Haxe. Experience with different game development frameworks with some understanding of their structure and how to handle rendering. Ideally with games targeting web. A proactive mindset with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership. Nice-to-have: Experience developing modules used by other developers. Interest in performance optimization. Our tech stack includes git, TypeScript, Linux, bash, Bun, Docker, Cucumber, GitLab and AWS. Familiarity with any of those tools are beneficial but not required. Gameplay design is a key part of your role, as you help shape how each game feels and plays. Your task will be to bring our game ideas to life in cooperation with designers and product owners. We offer a nice office in central Stockholm, an opportunity to work with other experienced game developers, as well as a co-ownership program for suitable candidates. Your key responsibilities include: Work with the development and design team to create new games and update old games, as required. Maintain and implement new features into our game development framework. Participate in code reviews and merge requests. Collaborate with colleagues who have similar roles, both in-house and with our partners. What We’re Looking For: Experience with a programming language suited for game development, such as C#, Haxe, C++, Javascript, TypeScript, or similar. Experience with game development, or a solid development background, and a strong desire to learn. An eye for detail and an interest in performance and player experience. A strong sense of responsibility and the ability to take initiative in your work. Nice-to-have: Experience with some form of game development library, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Pixi, or similar. Shader programming experience. 3d programming experience, such as OpenGL. A working knowledge of how a browser communicates with a back-end server. Experience in debugging. Social gaming experience.
