Get to Know our Team:    In Agoda’s Engineering department, we build the scalable and fault-tolerant systems.  Our systems cover all major areas of our business: website, mobile apps, affiliate apis, inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, finance and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD, experimentation and advanced testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like React, Redux state management, Javascript,  Kotlin, Scala, data technologies like Kafka, Aerospike and Big Data, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or innovating on the latest fintech idea or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of our Engineering team.   The Opportunity:   The Senior Engineering Manager role at Agoda is one of the most significant and challenging roles in Technology. The right candidate has both deep technical knowledge and exhibits extremely strong leadership and people development skills. They should also have experience leading large engineering teams and managing managers.   In this Role, you’ll get to:    * Manage large engineering teams  * Directly manage engineering managers and star engineers.  * Provide technical input into new business ideas  * Work with senior leadership up to C-level * Work and drive initiatives outside of your core team * Build and guide the technical roadmap for your area * Take ownership of major projects that are strategic to Agoda. * It’s important to have a love of engineering and a passion for building things elegantly and at scale. Staying in touch with where the industry is going is crucial, and it’s important to have strong opinions about how systems should be architected, engineered, and maintained. * Developing people – Despite our investment and belief in technology, people are still our greatest asset. The right candidate will have a keen interest in developing people: inspiring those around them so they can achieve their potential. Get to Know Our Team The Engineering department oversees all Agoda’s ML and software related requirements. Our goal is to enable and increase Agoda’s business through creative approaches and the implementation of powerful resources such as operational and analytical databases, ML driven solutions, queue systems and data monitoring tools. The role the engineering team plays at Agoda is critical as business users, product managers, and many others rely on us to empower their decision making. We work across structured and non-structured data at scale. For example, our current ML models process millions of images every day to try and enhance the experience that our users get from our app. Why Agoda Engineering Team (ML role)? Our engineering teams are at the intersection of business analytics, ml engineering, data warehousing and software engineering. Our job involves dealing with distributed systems, stream processing, ml modeling and computation at tens of PB Scale. We focus on software engineering related to data replication, storage, centralized computation, and Data API’s. By providing our users with ML products/tools, shared frameworks, and ML services, we enable our company to validate strategic decisions, make smarter choices, and react to the fast-changing world. We are a small but passionate team with people from different nationalities working together on a single goal. In this Role, you will get to: * Lead the team technically in improving scalability, stability, accuracy, speed and efficiency of our existing ML systems and processes. Build, administer and scale ML processing pipelines. * Be comfortable navigating the following technology stack: Python3, Scala Spark, scripting (Bash/Python), Hadoop, SQL, S3 etc. * Should be able to understand internals of ML models such as LightGBM, Random Forest, CNN, Regression models, etc * Design, build, test and deploy new libraries, frameworks or full systems for our core systems while keeping to the highest standards of testing and code quality. * Work with experienced engineers and product owners to identify and build tools to automate many large-scale data management / analysis tasks. * We believe in end-to-end ownership; this role will involve taking and building systems that enable us to deliver ML models to production at a scale. What You’ll need to Succeed: * Bachelor’s degree in computer science /information systems/engineering/related field 6+ years of experience in software engineering with a minimum of 4+ years in ML * Expert in SQL, Python3, and JVM based programming language – ie, Java or Scala * Expert in software design/design patterns, functional programming and object-oriented programming. * Analytical problem-solving capabilities & experience. A strong engineering driven mindset will be required to succeed in this role. In this role, you will own the architecture vision and roadmap for scalable, secure, and compliant tax platforms that support Agoda’s global financial operations, high transaction volumes, and evolving regulatory needs.  You will work closely with Finance domain experts, product managers, engineering teams, and fellow architects to translate complex tax rules and business requirements into robust technical solutions across Agoda’s internal systems, data flows, tax engines, and selected third-party platforms.  As a senior technical leader, you will operate from strategy through implementation detail: guiding architectural decisions, challenging trade-offs, coaching engineering teams, and ensuring our tax platforms are resilient, adaptable, observable, and built for Agoda’s scale. You will help balance compliance and governance with engineering velocity, cost efficiency, and long-term platform quality.    This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand. (Relocation support is provided)   In this Role, you'll get to: * Shape the technical direction, architecture strategy, and long-term roadmap for Agoda’s Tax technology ecosystem, aligning Finance, regulatory, product, and engineering goals.  * Own the architecture of mission-critical platforms and capabilities, ensuring they are scalable, secure, resilient, observable, and adaptable to Agoda’s global scale, with the key starting focus being the Tax platform. * Design end-to-end solutions across internal systems, tax engines, APIs, data flows, and selected third-party platforms where they create clear business and technical value. * Work hands-on with engineering teams on key technical decisions, system design, implementation trade-offs, proof-of-concepts, and critical architecture components. * Lead architectural reviews and provide expert guidance on system design, integration patterns, reliability, maintainability, performance, and operational readiness. * Translate complex tax rules, compliance requirements, and financial workflows into clear technical models that engineering teams can build, evolve, and operate effectively. * Analyze Agoda’s current Tax technology landscape, identify systemic risks, duplication, inefficiencies, and modernization opportunities, and define practical transition paths toward the future state. * Establish and evolve architecture principles, engineering standards, documentation, and governance practices that improve quality without slowing delivery. * Drive improvements in quality, velocity, cost efficiency, scalability, and developer productivity across Tax-related systems and adjacent FinTech platforms. * Mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, and technical leads, raising engineering fundamentals across design, code quality, testing, observability, and production ownership. * Communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders across Finance, Product, Engineering, and Technology. * Effectively utilize AI to achieve all the above, including contributions in building the solutions you helped design.    What you'll Need to Succeed: * 10+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, or technology leadership roles, with a strong track record of designing and evolving complex production systems.  * 3+ years of hands-on experience delivering tax-related technology projects across direct or indirect tax domains, or closely related finance technology domains, including building or evolving tax platforms. * Strong understanding of Tax technology domains such as VAT, GST, corporate tax, withholding tax, compliance workflows, tax calculation, reporting, reconciliation, and auditability. * Proven ability to shape technical strategy and architecture roadmaps across multiple teams, systems, or business domains. * Strong hands-on engineering background, with deep understanding of system design, APIs, data flows, integration patterns, reliability, observability, scalability, and operational trade-offs for mission-critical systems, including high-volume transactional platforms at enterprise scale. * Ability to translate complex business, finance, and regulatory requirements into clear technical models, architecture decisions, and executable engineering plans. * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to senior engineering, product, finance, and business leaders. * Proven ability to mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, technical leads, and cross-functional teams without relying on direct reporting authority. * Strong ownership mindset, with a track record of identifying systemic risks, reducing duplication, improving engineering quality, and driving pragmatic modernization.    It's Great if you have: * Experience designing or modernizing global tax platforms that support multiple jurisdictions, products, currencies, and regulatory models. * Deep experience with tax engines or tax automation platforms such as Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, or equivalent custom-built solutions. * Experience with ERP systems, financial ledgers, invoicing, billing, reconciliation, or other finance platform integration points. * Familiarity with event-driven architecture, streaming, or middleware integration technologies * Experience with cloud-native architecture patterns, distributed systems, Kubernetes/EKS, serverless platforms, or large-scale service-oriented architectures. * Understanding of data privacy, auditability, financial controls, and compliance frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, SOX, or equivalent regulatory controls. * Experience leading large-scale platform modernization, proof-of-concept work, or architecture transformation across multiple engineering teams. * Exposure to large-scale global commerce, travel, payments, marketplace, or financial
