SumUp builds financial solutions for millions of small businesses worldwide. Our Identity Lifecycle mission powers the systems that determine who can access those solutions, ensuring every merchant we onboard is verified accurately, compliantly, and at scale. As Engineering Manager for Verification, you will lead the squad responsible for identity checks across all of SumUp's markets. This is a high-impact opportunity to guide a team running high-stakes workstreams across KYC and a wide range of regulatory environments, in a domain that is both technically complex and central to the customer journey. You will help bring clarity, stability, and momentum to a complex domain, supporting the evolution of legacy-heavy systems into a platform that is increasingly observable, maintainable, and resilient in the face of a fast-changing regulatory landscape. The role calls for strong technical depth and sound engineering judgment, enabling you to lead delivery with confidence while shaping the architecture decisions that will define how verification works at SumUp for years to come. You will work closely with Product, Compliance, and Operations to ensure solutions are practical, safe, and scalable, with regulatory requirements considered early and effectively throughout the development process. At the same time, you will create the conditions for engineers to do their best work by providing direction, support, and space for ownership. Together, you will raise the bar for how verification systems are designed, built, and operated at SumUp. What you'll do: * Lead the Verification Squad as its engineering leader, creating focus and momentum by removing bottlenecks, managing cross-team dependencies, and helping engineers navigate complexity across legacy systems and evolving processes. * Partner closely with Product, Compliance, and Operations to translate complex cross-market KYC and KYB requirements into clear engineering outcomes, identifying buildability considerations and regulatory risks early. * Drive the technical and organisational improvements that strengthen the squad over time, reducing legacy overhead, improving tooling, and fostering greater shared ownership and sustainable delivery practices. * Shape roadmap priorities alongside the PM, ensuring trade-offs are well understood and that compliance requirements and AI-influenced features are properly accounted for. * Maintain high standards for how verification systems are built and operated, ensuring flows are observable, failures are controlled, and AI-driven components meet the same bar for reliability, traceability, and auditability as any other part of the system * Develop engineers with intention through regular 1:1s, direct feedback, and deliberate stretch opportunities, building a team with strong technical and product judgment You'll be great for this role if: * You have a proven track record of leading engineering teams through technical transformation, including large-scale migrations and legacy modernisation. * You bring strong technical depth in backend technologies, particularly Go and API/integration architecture, and have hands-on experience with observability, CI/CD, and testing practices * You have experience (or a appetite to learn) in KYC/KYB regulatory environments and understand how frameworks like eIDAS interact with product and engineering decisions * You combine strategic thinking with hands-on technical credibility, and you communicate with clarity, empathy, and transparency across both technical and non-technical audiences * You are a solid people leader who develops high performers, addresses underperformance directly and fairly, and builds psychologically safe, inclusive, high-performing teams Why you should join SumUp 🌎 Opportunity to work with SumUppers globally on large-scale fintech products used by millions of businesses worldwide, from our Berlin office. This involves an office-first setup 🌈 Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: be part of a workplace that values and promotes diversity, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone's perspectives are respected and embraced 🚀 Enrollment onto our Virtual Stock Option programme: you will own a stake in SumUp’s future success 📚 A dedicated annual L&D budget of €2000 for attending conferences and/or advancing your career through further education 💶 A corporate pension scheme where we match up to 20% of your contributions 🏖️ Generous time off: enjoy 28 days of paid leave plus public holidays and special leave days 🚵🏾♂️ Numerous other benefits such as Urban Sports Club subsidy, Kita placement assistance, subsidised office lunches 🌴 Break4me: 1-month sabbatical after 3 years of service 🔗 Referral Bonus: earn additional rewards by referring talented individuals to join the SumUp team About SumUp At SumUp, we’re on a mission to empower small businesses around the world with simple, affordable tools to help them start, run, and grow. ABOUT WOLT At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe. Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life. At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to neighborhoods of the world. As part of that mission, we’re building a unified platform designed to power DoorDash, Wolt, Deliveroo, and future growth. The primary computing platform is mainly a code execution framework that lets product teams compose business logic into graphs, while the team owns the platform, runtime, and operational experience. We’re now looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our EU-based Computing Platform team. This is a team of 5 engineers working on a foundational, mission-critical platform that helps simplify backend development at scale by reducing operational overhead for product teams and making cross-team changes easier to build, test, and ship. In this role, you’ll grow the team, shape the roadmap, and work closely with product and platform partners and your manager to make the Computing Platform more reliable, performant, and easier to adopt across Wolt, Deliveroo and DoorDash. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING This is a high-impact engineering leadership role at the intersection of platform strategy, people leadership, and execution. You’ll lead a team building core capabilities that help engineers ship business logic without owning the burden of running services themselves. Success in this role means growing a strong team, driving clear priorities, and delivering platform improvements that make the Computing Platform easier for developers, and safer, faster and more reliable to use at massive scale. DAY-TO-DAY IN THIS ROLE YOU’LL: * Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, creating clarity, strong execution habits, and a healthy engineering culture. * Own the team’s roadmap and delivery across core Computing Platform areas such as performance, scaling and resource management, I/O optimization, integrations, developer experience, and observability. * Partner closely with adjacent platform teams and product domains onboarding to Pedregal, turning their needs into platform capabilities and smoother adoption paths. * Guide architectural and technical decisions for the Computing Platform runtime and developer-facing APIs, balancing reliability, simplicity, and long-term extensibility. * Raise the bar on operational excellence by improving reliability, debuggability, and support for teams running production workloads on the Computing Platform. * Help shape the next phase of the Computing Platform as a foundational platform for Wolt, Deliveroo and DoorDash through hiring, prioritization, cross-team alignment, and org leadership. OUR HUMBLE EXPECTATIONS * At least 3+ years of solid experience as an engineering manager, including directly leading and growing a team of engineers in a fast-paced environment. * At least 5+ years of strong background in backend, infrastructure, product or platform engineering, and good technical judgment when working with distributed systems, runtime platforms, or developer-facing infrastructure. * You know how to turn an ambitious platform vision into clear priorities, pragmatic execution plans, and reliable delivery. * You’re comfortable working across team boundaries and partnering with engineering, product, and platform stakeholders to drive alignment and adoption. * You care deeply about people leadership and know how to coach engineers, create clarity, and build a healthy, high-performing team culture. * You hold a high bar for engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence, and can help teams navigate production challenges with calm and structure. WHAT WE OFFER This is an opportunity to lead a foundational platform team working on one of the most important backend building blocks. The Computing Platform is designed to simplify how engineers build and operate business logic at scale, and the work of this team has the potential to influence developer productivity, system reliability, and platform adoption across Wolt, Deliveroo and DoorDash. You’ll get to work on meaningful engineering leadership challenges with broad scope: growing a strong team, shaping technical direction, and helping define how mission-critical compute platform evolves as more domains onboard. If you’re excited by high-leverage platform work, complex distributed systems problems, and the chance to have impact far beyond a single product surface, this is a rare role to step into. OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company, industry, and cities. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has room at the table and the tools, resources, and opportunity to excel.

ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE: At Talon. One, we're building the infrastructure behind modern promotions, loyalty, and gamification for some of the world's most forward-thinking brands. As our engineering organization scales, we are introducing a new Technical Governance and Enablement layer that sits right between Product Engineering, Architecture, and Platform/Infra. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to become the operational engine, stakeholder shield, and planning partner for this critical new function. Production Engineering defines how production is run across R&D - from incidents and releases to operational workflows, reliability initiatives, and the systems that help engineers operate safely at scale. We treat this domain as an internal product. This is not a customer-facing role. It is about bringing structure, focus, and predictability to a highly technical team, turning ambitious reliability and architectural strategies into realistic, data-driven execution plans. You will remove the coordination and operational overhead for engineering leaders so they can focus on scaling and mentoring the team. ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL: * Work hand-in-hand with leadership to design, document, and roll out foundational engineering programs from scratch (e.g., modernizing our incident management framework, on-call training, blameless post-mortem culture, and release governance) * Standardize incoming channels (Slack, Shortcut, Incident Follow-ups, GTM feedback etc.) to manage ad-hoc chaos, triage operational requests, and protect the focus of SREs and TechOps so they can deliver deep project work. Establish a clear operational intake process ("front door") for the team * Drive quarterly planning, backlog refinement, sprint readiness, and execution tracking for reliability and Ops initiatives. Own the Production Engineering backlog and continuously improve incident response and release processes * Coordinate work across Engineering, Platform, Architecture, Product, Support, and Post-sales, managing dependencies and surfacing delivery risks early * Configure and optimize project management tools (like Jira/Trello) to build clean tracking dashboards and automate intake workflows * Design the communication loops, tracking dashboards, and engineering reviews that give senior stakeholders clear insight into operational health, incident follow-ups, and tech-debt remediation * Evolve the metrics (SLOs/SLIs, MTTR, deployment velocity, tech-debt ratios) that guide how we balance shipping new business features with maintaining absolute system reliability * Enable Architects and engineering leadership with the operational data and planning insights needed for effective capacity planning and prioritization WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE: * Proven experience as a Technical Program Manager or Product Manager within Platform, Infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, or Core Engineering Ecosystems. You understand CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and observability * Direct experience defining or revamping incident management, post-incident review practices, or release governance frameworks * Operates effectively in ambiguity, building operational scaffolding from scratch. Comfortable in daily tactical loops with SREs and long-term strategic planning with architects * Building high-performing engineering processes and leading organizational change that enables teams to scale, adopt new ways of working, and deliver * Exceptional ability to manage complex cross-team dependencies and negotiate priorities across Product, Engineering, Platform, and Support * Experience translating raw engineering pain points and incident logs into structured, data-backed business cases for technical debt capacity * Nice to have: Deep familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering concepts (Error Budgets, SLOs, SLIs, MTTA/MTTR) * Nice to have: Experience in a high-growth, high-throughput B2B SaaS environment WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU: * 90+ team of engineers, product managers and product designers in Berlin * Leaders with 8+ years of experience building our promotions engine * €1,000 annual learning budget and free German language courses to boost your skills * 30 days of annual leave, plus extra paid days for your birthday and moving day * Home office setup budget, a monthly home office allowance * Freedom to work from abroad for up to 90 days worldwide! * Mental health support with nilo.health and a discounted Urban Sports Club membership * 20% company subsidy on your pension contributions * Subsidised BVG public transport ticket and a dog-friendly Berlin office where your furry friend is welcome * Lease your ideal bike through BusinessBike
