We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our London team. In this role, you’ll lead, build, and grow teams of world-class engineers, taking responsibility for their technical execution and impact through ambiguity as we scale. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING In this role, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers across various platforms. You will report to a Senior Engineering Manager or Engineering Director, helping to shape the future of our three-sided marketplace. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Lead and grow a multi-disciplinary team of Backend, iOS, Android, and Web engineers, fostering a diverse and high-achieving environment. * Drive technical and product strategy by setting clear project goals, guiding implementation choices, and ensuring your team hits group-level metrics. * Champion a learning culture through active mentorship, helping engineers and emerging leaders accelerate their careers. * Scale our engineering practices by implementing processes and values that improve team efficiency and code quality. * Maintain technical engagement by contributing to code reviews and technical design, ensuring the health and observability of your team's systems. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others: * Significant experience in people management, with at least 2 years spent leading engineering teams through performance reviews and goal setting. * A strong technical background as a Software Engineer, with a proven ability to build user-focused products at pace. * Demonstrated success in team building, including hiring, onboarding, and supporting the personal growth of colleagues. * Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, managing both local and remote engineers to deliver high-impact projects. * Experience collaborating across disciplines, working closely with Product, Design, and Operations to influence the broader roadmap. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Drive Technical Excellence: Improve code structure and architecture across your team’s remit, performing high-impact code reviews to ensure quality and scalability. * Lead Project Planning: Foresee dependencies and risks, partnering closely with Product and Design to ensure smooth delivery of complex features. * Optimise Operations: Simplify the maintenance and operation of production systems, promoting visibility, health, and operational readiness. * Collaborate & Influence: Build relationships across engineering teams to identify collaboration opportunities and influence the wider technical roadmap. * Mentor & Hire: Support the personal growth of your colleagues through technical guidance and take an active role in conducting engineering interviews to scale our team. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others: * Strong Engineering Principles: Deep pride in writing readable, well-designed, and well-tested software. * Backend Expertise: Significant experience building web-based applications (we use Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, and Rust). * Data Proficiency: Practical experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and "NoSQL" backends like Redis, DynamoDB, or ElasticSearch. * Systems at Scale: Proven ability to manage web architecture at scale (handling 20krpm and above). * Technical Leadership: Experience breaking down large pieces of work and guiding implementation choices for a team of engineers.
