Engineering Manager - Infrastructure Services We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Adyen Cloud Services (ACS) Team within the Platform Engineering organization in Bengaluru. This team owns and operates Adyen's core container orchestration and traffic management infrastructure, the foundation that keeps our global payment platform running. In this role, you will drive technical strategy, build a high-performing team, and shape the evolution of our platform as Adyen continues to scale globally. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Lead and grow a high-performing infrastructure team: Manage platform and infrastructure engineers across all levels, owning day-to-day operations, planning, and hiring in Bengaluru and in coordination with other tech hubs. * Bring structure and process to execution: Introduce and refine operational processes that improve incident response, change management, and predictable delivery for mission-critical infrastructure. * Foster a culture of technical excellence: Drive globally optimized technical decisions with a focus on automation, partnering with other leads to evolve container orchestration, traffic management, and infrastructure tooling. * Scale for massive growth: Guide the team through platform modernization, multi-region resilience, and architectural evolution while owning the operational realities of bare-metal infrastructure and datacenter dependencies. * Integrate platform best practices: Ensure reliability, security, and observability are embedded into how teams consume infrastructure offering a "golden path" for engineers to deploy and operate services. WHO YOU ARE * Experienced engineering leader: Proven track record managing and growing high-performing teams in platform, infrastructure, or SRE domains. 8+ years in engineering, with 3+ years in leadership roles. * Infrastructure domain expertise: Deep understanding of container orchestration (Kubernetes), traffic management (load balancers, DNS), and on-prem/bare-metal operations. Hands-on experience running large-scale, highly available production infrastructure. * Technical leader with a strong engineering perspective: You shape technical direction, improve reliability and performance, and ensure solutions are scalable and maintainable with a focus on automation. * Hands-on when needed: While this is a management role, you're comfortable in technical discussions to guide your team and ensure sound decisions, and can partner across infrastructure and development teams to diagnose and resolve issues when needed. * Nice to have: Prior experience in FinTech or regulated industries where reliability and security are paramount. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and building automation for provisioning and lifecycle management. Experience with, or exposure to, the design of wireless telecommunications, satellite communications, payloads, or radio telescope systems. Experience with requirements definition, design coordination, verification, and delivery of communication systems. Ability to coordinate suppliers and stakeholders across multiple locations and time zones. Understanding of relevant international legal, safety, and regulatory requirements. Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA) is advantageous. Good written and verbal communication skills in English. Willingness to travel internationally as required. Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and project delivery in a dynamic environment. Strong communicator and problem solver with proven negotiation skills, able to translate complex technical issues into business, cost, and risk impacts while driving continuous improvement RESPONSIBILITIES Lead or support the specification, procurement, design, construction, and verification of satellite ground station infrastructure and antenna systems, depending on experience. Ensure technical and operational documentation is developed and maintained to support system handover and ongoing operations. Support site selection, licensing, and infrastructure development activities. Provide engineering support to project managers to help achieve schedule, cost, and quality objectives. Contribute to procurement activities, including supplier and contractor evaluation and selection. Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and international partners to support successful project execution and delivery. Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and sustainability requirements across all project activities. Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, bid support, and technical evaluations. ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer (back-end) to lead the team building and scaling the infrastructure behind Scenario Builder, our electricity grid modelling platform. Scenario Builder is an in-browser platform that currently provides capacity expansion and dispatch modelling through an accessible no-code interface. The vision for Scenario Builder is to expand into power flow modelling to create a fully integrated grid modelling platform with the features and functionality needed to enable users to develop bankable scenarios that support energy investment decisions. You will line-manage a small team of engineers while remaining a highly active individual contributor. You will own the technical shape of engineering work on the back-end team — leading planning, architecture, and code quality. You will work closely with the wider product and engineering team to design, develop, and maintain the back-end services that power our platform. This hybrid role is based out of our London office near Waterloo Station and reports to the Head of Platform. RESPONSIBILITIES BACK-END DEVELOPMENT & ARCHITECTURE * Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services and APIs using Python and modern frameworks (FastAPI). * Design and build high-performance API endpoints to handle complex hierarchical data queries and multi-dimensional aggregations for grid modelling computations * Ensure system reliability, performance, and security through best practices in code quality, testing, and monitoring. * Collaborate with front-end engineers to design and implement RESTful APIs that support our web application. * Collaborate with data engineers and domain experts on the evolving core data model INFRASTRUCTURE & DEVOPS * Manage and optimise cloud infrastructure (GCP) to support our computational workloads. * Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, reliable deployments. * Monitor system health and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues. * Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION * Participate and lead in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical planning sessions. * Own technical planning: break down roadmap items into well-scoped engineering work, lead estimation, and drive architectural decision records (ADRs). * Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, data engineering, and modelling, to deliver impactful features. * Set and uphold the team's technical standards — code quality, testing strategy, API design — through direct example and code review.
