THE OPPORTUNITY 9fin is seeking a reporter to join our European team covering the distressed debt and restructuring market. We’re looking for a scoop-driven journalist who will relish the opportunity to delve into all of the fascinating stories of restructuring and distressed companies across the UK and Europe. If you can follow this fast-paced market while maintaining best-in-class editorial standards and collaborating with our team of reporters, analysts, and lawyers, we want to work with you. WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON Every day is different, but here’s an example of the kind of things you’ll work on: * Breaking news — You’ll regularly break stories on what’s going on in distressed debt, from deteriorating company earnings all the way to messy out-of-court restructurings * Feature-writing — You’ll know when to pull the trigger on longer-form articles that connect the dots between daily news and broader market trends * Generating ideas — You’ll provide a consistent stream of new ideas, whether that’s identifying new situations to cover, or thinking up new ways to cover them * Monitoring markets — You’ll learn to harness our technology to identify new opportunities, ensuring that 9fin’s coverage of the distressed market is timely and comprehensive ABOUT YOU This role will be a great fit if you are: * Experienced — 2+ year of finance reporting experience, preferably on distressed debt markets * Personable — Inquisitive and outgoing, always making new connections and sharing ideas * Organised — Able to maintain a deep network of sources, stay on top of story pipeline and deadlines * Communicative — Clear and concise in your written and verbal language, and able to explain complex ideas in simple terms * Driven — Endlessly curious, self-motivated, and passionate about doing a good job * Fluent in German or French would be an added plus Benefits We’re a scaling start up, and we enjoy sharing our success, when the company succeeds, we always reinvest that in our people. WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON Every day is different, but here's an example of the kind of things you'll work on: * Cover the European leveraged finance market across the M&A market, deal origination, new debt issuance and stressed credits, producing fast, accurate news and analysis for 9fin's platform * Build source relationships with syndication desks, buyside investors, traders and legal counsel active in European leveraged finance * Write breaking news, market roundups, and analytical features on deals, issuers, and structural trends in European leveraged finance * Track pricing, structure and market conditions across European high yield and leveraged loan markets, providing context and colour for 9fin's client base * Support senior reporters covering the distressed desk by providing leveraged finance context on issuers migrating from performing to stressed or distressed, as well as working with the private credit desk on origination coverage * Contribute to 9fin's broader European content output including newsletters, sponsored content, podcast and platform-based analytical products ABOUT YOU This role will be a great fit if you: * Have 1–3 years of experience in leveraged finance, loan/bond markets, or financial journalism covering credit, M&A or private equity markets * Are experienced in building a source network in European leveraged finance, or similar private financial markets, and are comfortable reaching out to market participants for information and commentary * Have a solid understanding of leveraged loan and high yield bond structures, pricing dynamics, and documentation * Are a fast, accurate writer who can produce clean, market-ready copy under deadline pressure * Are based in London and able to work on a hybrid basis from 9fin's London office * Are collaborative and willing to work across team lines — supporting the distressed and private credit desk while maintaining your own LevFin coverage Benefits We’re a scaling start up, and we enjoy sharing our success, when the company succeeds, we always reinvest that in our people. WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON 9fin’s team of financial journalists is looking for the newest member of the Investment Grade team, a hungry reporter who can hit the ground running in a fast-moving, opaque and complex financial market. You’ll be expected to have basic market knowledge but more importantly, be adept at building out your own source base and delivering market-moving insights and scoops. You will be given full support to develop into the role and learn about this highly specialized market that 9fin covers. Candidates should have experience and a firm grip on newsgathering, source building, writing, and interviewing skills. Every day is different, but here’s an example of the kind of things you’ll work on: * Source-building with bankers, investors, traders, lawyers and other key players in the credit markets * Writing quick news stories while balancing investigative pieces covering market trends * Working with other members of our team of US- and UK-based journalists to confirm information and produce collaborative content * Attending conferences, briefings, and other occasions to build and maintain source relationships * Receiving formal and informal training in interviewing, source-building, news writing, media law and financial markets ABOUT YOU If you are a reporter working in the world of credit markets, specifically with experience covering Investment Grade companies, and have the following attributes, we are interested in hearing from you: * Have experience in developing, reporting and writing stories for publication * Wish to join a rapidly-growing platform, winning market share, and attracting high-quality readership from financial professionals * An interest in finance, economics, markets, and understanding of basic concepts and terminology * Proven experience covering fixed income markets (IG, HY, Loans, CLOs and/or ABS) is a plus * Can work independently, with high accuracy and attention to detail * Have a desire to build strong sourcing relationships across finance professionals and embed deeply as a crucial part of the market * Can write concise and fluent English, making technical topics accessible and engaging * Have ambitions to carve out a coverage area and build your own reputation as a financial journalist OUR BENEFITS We’re a scaling start up and we enjoy sharing our success, when the company succeeds, we always reinvest that in our people.
