ABOUT THE ROLE: This team is building a platform that powers all of compute at Vercel. That means we provide all the primitives to run builds, serverless functions, middleware, edge functions, secure compute and now sandboxes too. If you’re based within a pre-determined commuting distance of one of our offices (SF, NY, London, or Berlin), the role includes in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. WHAT YOU WILL DO: * Manage our fleet of clusters, running 100’s of instances, deployed in every region where our customers deploy and run their code. * You will be writing Golang on a daily basis, while terraform will be your go-to tool when it comes to provisioning the needed infra. You will get to know the ins and outs of Nomad as it’s our current choice for scheduling the workloads. * The platform you will be building provides all the primitives to run all untrusted code from our customers: even a 1% performance improvement has massive repercussions across the board. * Working collaboratively with cross-team and cross-functional stakeholders, you will participate in the conception and implementation of new platform features. * Other examples of the work you will be carrying out: * Fluid Compute * Active CPU Pricing ABOUT YOU: * You have 5+ years of software engineering experience, Golang preferred. * You have extended experience with Containers, Virtual Machines, Linux, and like digging deep to know how these things work under the hood (tcpdump , strace and iptables are your best friends). * You design systems that improve performance or increase reliability. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. Ads is the fuel that powers Reddit’s mission. As a backend engineer on the team, candidates might work on: * Microservices and APIs that power our advertiser-facing product, ads.reddit.com * Distributed systems that ensure the right ad gets shown to the right user at the right time * Backends that power interactive user experiences on our ads like Polls and Games * Real time, data intensive systems that measure the performance of our ad campaigns * Infrastructure that supports all of the above Technologies used on the team include: * Languages: Go, Python, Scala * Frameworks: Spark, Thrift, Baseplate, Kafka * Datastores: Postgres, BigQuery, Redis, Druid  * Tools: Kubernetes, Argo, Docker Mid-level engineers are expected to absorb best practices and learn exceptionally quickly while being effective core contributors. Engineers at this level must be able to code independently, but may work with senior engineers on the design of complex solutions. The most important skills an engineer at this level must possess are 1) coachability and an eagerness to grow, 2) deep passion for coding, and 3) excellent independent learning skills, all while operating as a fully functioning member of an engineering team. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Work with product managers to design and implement Ads products. * Collaborate closely with the platform and data teams while building new features. * Lead the processes needed to improve operational stability, including improving code quality, delivering dashboards and data visualizations. * Build extensible components that would align with the product objectives.  * Support day to day project management tasks including communicating project updates, managing project timelines and overseeing project execution.   REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * 3+ years of software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages (Java, Scala, Go, C++, Python). * Able to take complete ownership of a feature or project. In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission.
