The Community You Will Join: The Client Data & Networking Platform team owns the data layer of Airbnb's client tech stack, including the GraphQL runtime, client networking infrastructure, and the developer tooling built on top of it. Our frameworks and tools are relied upon by nearly every product team at Airbnb, and through education and clear guidance on best practices, the team shapes how frontend engineers across the company build and ship products. The Difference You Will Make: As a frontend engineer on the team, you will empower Airbnb engineers to build fast, reliable, and data-rich features at scale. In close collaboration with product engineers, you will gain a deep understanding of their challenges and priorities, and use these insights to design and implement improvements to infrastructure and tooling that have a meaningful impact on the way teams build and deliver products. A Typical Day:  * Partner with Airbnb product teams to understand their pain points, pilot proposed solutions, and drive adoption of paved-path tooling and frameworks. * Work closely with Android and iOS engineers on the team to develop foundational, cross-platform solutions. * Collaborate with a wide variety of infrastructure teams as well as support product foundation teams as they build additional capabilities on top of the team’s offerings. * Participate in all phases of software development from architecture/design through implementation, testing, and on-call. Your Expertise: * 10+ years of industry experience. * Extensive experience working with TypeScript to develop web applications, including designing and integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs. * Experience on a Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity team at a medium to large engineering organization. * Strong engineering fundamentals, including a solid understanding of client networking, performance optimization, caching strategies, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming. * Experience mentoring and growing engineers across an organization and driving best practices for web client development. * Demonstrated ability to influence engineering strategy and shape technical priorities across a large organization. * Interest in developing internal tooling and CLI (command line interface) applications. Experience building agentic AI solutions is a plus. Your Location: This position is US - Remote Eligible. The Difference You Will Make: Build infrastructure has the potential to be one of the highest-leverage investments for our engineering organization as we attempt to accelerate the iteration loop of engineers and AI agents operating within our developer platform.  To deliver these improvements, you will operate within the CI+Build team, which owns developer infrastructure that includes remote build systems, CI clusters, flaky test management, and merge queues. The team’s goal is to keep mainline green and PR cycle times fast.  Your role will give you the opportunity to define and deliver world-class build systems at Airbnb’s scale, while driving technical direction for build infrastructure spanning multiple platform teams. Our internal customer teams deliver systems used by product engineers across backend, web, and mobile. Furthermore, to be successful in this role, you will need to be comfortable diving into the application architecture of some of our largest internal backend services as we manage a build graph that continues to grow in complexity. A Typical Day:  * Architecting improvements to our existing Bazel installation, and remote build/cache infrastructure to improve correctness, reproducibility, and speed. * Setting the technical roadmap for software build system reliability and performance. * Accelerating inner-loop development velocity, along with CI run-times, by diagnosing and resolving build performance bottlenecks, including remote execution efficiency, cache hit rates, and critical path analysis. * Driving organizational alignment on build system investments across multiple teams and technical domains. * Serving as the technical authority on build systems across Airbnb: setting standards, mentoring senior engineers, and owning build architecture decisions across multiple repos. * Partnering with Security on optimizing build processes related to base images. * Ensuring a commitment to craft and operational excellence. Your Expertise: * 8+ years industry experience * Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience. * Metrics-driven approach to decision-making, with a track record for delivering quantifiable impact and presenting to engineering leadership. * Expertise in Bazel, and concepts such as action graph, dependency analysis, remote caching. * Driving cross-organizational alignment and decisions for investments. * Strong ability to review code. THE DIFFERENCE YOU WILL MAKE: As a Staff GenAI Backend Engineer on the ARC team, you will drive meaningful impact across our core routing and differentiated service programs: * Lead engineering delivery on strategic programs that enable intelligent agent matching, personalized support experiences for high-value customers, and next-generation routing and communication channel capabilities. * Own and evolve core routing infrastructure, including decision engines, workflow orchestration, and routing rule management. Ensuring high availability, correctness, and scalability across millions of daily support interactions. * Drive consolidation of fragmented routing logic spread across multiple platforms and channels into a centralized, auditable, and maintainable system. * Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, Data Science, and partner engineering teams to align on priorities and deliver outcomes that improve the customer support experience. * Contribute to technical quality through design reviews, code reviews, and pragmatic architectural decision-making. * Play a critical role in building the team's technical depth by actively mentoring junior engineers, setting clear growth expectations, and driving a culture where engineers consistently level up. A TYPICAL DAY: * Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, engineering, and data science teams to develop backend systems and enhance AI prompt effectiveness for routing and differentiated service experiences. * Lead and contribute across the full development lifecycle: technical design, implementation, testing, experimentation, and production deployment. * Champion a culture of engineering excellence by role modeling best practices in design, code quality, and cross-functional collaboration, and creating an environment where engineers at all levels continuously grow. * Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-mortems to ensure the reliability of routing infrastructure serving millions of Airbnb guests and hosts. * Engage in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and design doc sharing sessions to keep ARC's delivery on track. * Optimize system availability, performance, and scalability while pushing enhancements for improved efficiency across AI-driven routing workflows. * Collaborate with cross-regional engineering partners to align on shared routing capabilities and drive consistency across global support operations.
