Light exists to replace factory-era ERPs with software that feels alive. Our Smart Financial Platform gives modern, global
companies superpowers—automated accounting, real-time reporting, and financial flows that move at the speed of the business.
We build with our customers, ship fast, and obsess over craft. In a short time, Light has gone from idea to the operating core for
leading companies like Lovable, Legora, and Keyshot. People don't just use Light—they enjoy it.
We're an early team defining a new software category. Think engineers who love debits and credits, designers who care about
reconciliation states, and operators who treat finance as a product. If you're excited to modernize how the world runs money—one
workflow at a time—you're in the right place.
Backed by world-class investors and advised by industry titans, we're building category-defining products with the freedom to ship
ambitiously and own outcomes. Come help us make Light the global default for next-gen finance.
Light is only as powerful as the systems it connects to. Money doesn't move because we say so—it moves because we speak the
language of the bank, the e-invoicing network, and the planning tool on the other side, correctly, every time, for every customer
entity. This role owns that layer: the interaction surface between Light and the rest of the financial world.
You'll build and operate the integrations that let Light plug into multi-tenant banking APIs (J.P. Morgan, HSBC, and peers),
global e-invoicing networks, and tax platforms and more. This is backend-heavy, data-integrity-critical work where a dropped
message or a silent reconciliation mismatch is not an acceptable outcome. You'll design the abstractions that turn a dozen
incompatible partner APIs into one coherent internal model, and you'll keep those abstractions honest as partners change their
specs underneath you.
FX—across providers like J.P. Morgan Payments and HSBC. Handle the realities of bank integrations: certificate-based and mTLS
auth, OAuth flows, ISO 20022 (pain/pacs/camt) and legacy MT formats, sandbox-to-production parity, and rate limits that assume
you're a bank, not a startup.
credentials, configuration, and data are isolated per tenant, where onboarding a new entity is a workflow rather than a code
change, and where one customer's failure never leaks into another's.
clearance and reporting regimes). Map between formats, manage compliance-driven edge cases, and keep delivery auditable.
reconciliation so that what we think happened and what actually happened always agree.
4-6 years of experience ideally, plus…
You build things. Not prototypes, not demos. Working software in production, doing something real for real users. This is the
non-negotiable.
You've built integrations against unforgiving external systems. APIs you don't control, that fail in ways the docs don't mention,
where correctness is contractual. You know how to defend a system against a partner that returns a 200 with an error in the body.
You know banking and payments APIs. Direct, hands-on experience with corporate banking, treasury, or payments APIs is what sets
the strongest candidates apart. Experience integrating J.P. Morgan or HSBC specifically—their developer platforms, auth models,
and payment and reporting APIs—is highly valuable and a genuine differentiator for this role. Familiarity with ISO 20022, SWIFT,
virtual accounts, or open banking is a strong signal.
You are excited about AI. You use AI tooling efficiently to improve your work. At Light, a lot of code is written with AI, which
means the hard part is increasingly the thinking: deciding what to build, reviewing what comes back, and catching where the model
is confidently wrong. You know when AI speeds you up, when it's likely to mislead you, and how to lean on it while staying fully
responsible for what ships.
You're comfortable across the stack. You don't need to be a specialist in everything, but you can't have a lane you refuse to
leave. Our stack is Kotlin and React, and this role leans backend. If you're strong on the backend and curious about the rest,
that works.
You care about data integrity. You think about the person on the other end and the money moving between them. You notice when a
flow is correct but fragile, and you act on it.
You ship early and often. Small batches. Learn. Go again. You'd rather put something real in front of a customer than spend
another week perfecting it in isolation.
We build on AWS, with a Kotlin backend, a React frontend, and infrastructure managed in Terraform. It's a real production system
that global finance teams depend on every day. The integration layer you'll own sits squarely in the Kotlin backend, talking to a
long list of external partners. You don't need to have used every piece of it. You do need to be comfortable in this kind of
environment: real scale, real customers, real stakes.
In addition to being part of a great team and working in a really fun and innovative environment, we offer:

About the company Kodex revolutionizes how organizations handle sensitive subpoenas and data requests from law enforcement and government agencies. Founded by a former FBI agent and backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, Peak XV and Thiel Capital, Kodex has become the industry standard for secure data exchange. Our platform supports over 15,000 government agencies in 190 countries and is trusted by industry leaders like Coinbase, Stripe, and AT&T. By transforming a traditionally complex and manual process into a streamlined digital workflow, Kodex helps organizations strengthen compliance, enhance security, and reduce operational costs by millions each year. We bridge the gap between companies and authorized requestors, ensuring that sensitive data is handled with uncompromising security, transparency, and efficiency. About the Role We’re hiring a Software Engineer to join our Integrations team and help turn Kodex into the default “Bridge” between law enforcement, companies, and the external systems they already rely on. You’ll build and operate customer-facing integrations (APIs, identity federation, webhooks, imports/exports, and marketplace apps) that reduce manual work for customers, unblock new product workflows, and raise the reliability and security bar across the platform. This is an ideal role for backend leaning generalists who like working at the seams between systems: translating messy real-world requirements into clean designs, shipping end-to-end, and owning systems in production. We leverage AI-assisted, agentic development. We use these tools to move faster, but never ship code we can't explain, test and maintain. Security, correctness and discipline come first. What You’ll Do You’ll work closely with Product, Customer Success, and fellow engineers to design, develop, and ship integration capabilities that unlock new workflows. Upcoming work areas include: * Building external-facing APIs and “Bridge” infrastructure for ingest/egress of requests between Kodex and third-party systems (service-to-service auth, customer keys, request intake endpoints) * Shipping identity and verification integrations such as Sign in with Kodex (OIDC) and related security reviews, test environments, and customer enablement * Delivering cross-border / government portal integrations (e.g., e-Evidence-style workflows) that require careful spec compliance, auditing, and operational rigor * Productizing existing bespoke integrations into reusable, scalable primitives (migrations, standard connectors, consistent schemas) * Building self-serve integrations (e.g., marketplace-grade Slack app experiences) that eliminate manual setup and reduce on-call/customer support load * Improving reliability and observability across integration surfaces (rate limits, retries, idempotency, structured logging, dashboards, and runbooks) * Leverage AI Agents to accelerate implementation, refactors and debugging while staying accountable for the design and correctness of the system * Participating in on-call rotations to maintain system reliability and respond to incidents * Raising the bar on engineering quality through thoughtful architecture, testing, and pragmatic refactors You Might Be a Fit If You… * Have 4+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent) * Are strong in TypeScript and comfortable across Node.js backend + React frontend * Have experience with (or are excited to learn) Golang and security-focused infrastructure (e.g., AWS Nitro Enclaves, key management, sensitive data handling) * Have shipped and operated production APIs / integrations (REST/GraphQL, webhooks, queues, async workflows) * Understand (or are excited to learn deeply) authn/authz patterns such as OAuth2 / OIDC, service-to-service authentication, token hygiene, and secure-by-default interface design * Think carefully about reliability (timeouts, retries, idempotency, backfills, migrations, monitoring) and can debug production issues efficiently * You've used AI coding tools effectively in production and know how to guide them with strong engineering judgment (design, architecture, testing) * Can take ambiguous requirements (often from external partners) and turn them into clear designs and deliverables * Value pragmatism, autonomy, and a customer-first mindset Bonus: Experience with security reviews, compliance-heavy domains, marketplace app ecosystems (e.g., Slack), or large integration migrations. Engineering at Kodex We care deeply about the software we build — because our work protects real people. Kodex plays a critical role in helping major companies respond securely and transparently to sensitive data requests from law enforcement, enabling both privacy protection and public safety. Our engineering culture is built on trust, autonomy, and technical rigor. Our engineers: * Own projects end to end * Collaborate without ego * Invest in quality and velocity * Act as force-multipliers for one another This is a place where the best idea wins, and your work has real impact, every day. Our Stack * Frontend: TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Material UI * Backend: Golang, Node.js, TypeScript, Prisma, and PostgreSQL. We’re hosted on AWS. * Tooling: Agentic coding and reviews * We’re also working on cutting-edge projects using AWS Nitro Enclaves Benefits * Remote-first within the U.S. * Offsites in exciting locations. Past trips include Seattle, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco * Competitive salary and meaningful equity * Unlimited PTO + 14 company holidays * 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, with a flexible return-to-work policy * Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans * 401(k) retirement plan * Dynamic Environment: Work on impactful, high-priority matters with opportunities for professional growth. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or transfer employment visa sponsorship for this position. Equal Employment Opportunities at the Company Kodex is committed to hiring talented and qualified individuals with diverse backgrounds for all of its tech, non-tech, and leadership roles. Kodex believes that the gathering and celebration of unique backgrounds, qualities, and cultures enriches the workplace.
