This project addresses this challenge by establishing a data-driven framework for the rational design of high-performance bio-adhesives. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on integrating experimental formulation, molecular-level characterization, and machine learning to develop predictive models linking chemical descriptors to adhesive properties. The work includes the development of a structured formulation library, systematic mapping of key performance indicators, and the implementation of data-driven optimization strategies to identify high-performing systems. About the project Industrial processes generate large amounts of waste heat at multiple temperature levels, which remain underutilized due to technological and operational limitations. Efficient recovery and upgrading of this heat are essential for improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in industrial systems. This PhD project focuses on the development of multi-level waste heat recovery systems based on absorption high-temperature heat pumps, with particular emphasis on dynamic behavior and system integration. The research will combine dynamic modelling, numerical simulation, and experimental investigation using an existing absorption heat pump/refrigeration test facility. The study will address the challenges associated with variable operating conditions, fluctuating heat sources, and transient industrial processes. Advanced dynamic models will be developed to simulate system performance, optimize control strategies, and evaluate system response under realistic operating scenarios. Experimental validation will be performed to ensure model accuracy and to improve system design. The outcomes will contribute to the development of flexible, efficient, and robust thermal energy systems capable of utilizing multi-temperature waste heat, supporting industrial decarbonization and sustainable energy transitions. The successful candidate will investigate how values are translated into indicators, metrics, assessments, policy frameworks, and governance practices, and how these shape societal priorities and transition pathways. The project may engage with topics such as sustainability metrics, biodiversity, justice, industrial policy, energy transitions, or emerging approaches to evaluating societal change. Salary and conditions In the position of PhD research fellow, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 550 800,- per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. The employment period is 3 years. Employment as a PhD research fellow will give you conditional admission to the PhD programme in Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture.
