At Ore Energy, we are on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move
civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries
that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers.
We are expanding our product development capabilities and are looking for a Product Development Engineer – Air Systems to join our
team in Amsterdam. Our iron-air batteries "breathe" air, meaning that conditioning and purifying incoming air and managing gases
internally is a critical subsystem of our product. In this role, you will lead the design, process calculation, prototyping, and
validation of our air-processing and gas-management support systems.
We are looking for a highly resourceful, hands-on Mechanical Engineer who has practical experience in Direct Air Capture (DAC) or
advanced gas-adsorption technologies. You will bridge the gap between process concepts (mass balance, pressure drop, sorbents) and
physical mechanical reality, building functional physical systems that protect and optimize our battery chemistry.
This role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer (CPO).

THE ROLE At Ore Energy, we are on a mission to fundamentally expand the amount of energy society can reliably harness and use, helping move civilization toward a more abundant energy future. We are doing this by developing long-duration, utility-scale iron-air batteries that provide safe, low-cost, multi-day energy storage for electricity grids and data centers. We are expanding our industrialization capabilities and are looking for a highly motivated, bright Product & Process Quality Engineer to join our team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will be the bridge between design engineering, physical testing, and early manufacturing, ensuring our products and processes meet high standards of reliability and performance. We are not looking for a rigid corporate bureaucrat. We want a pragmatic, cost-conscious, and hands-on quality professional with solid foundational experience who is eager to learn and build clean, efficient quality systems from scratch. You understand that quality in a scale-up is about enabling safe, rapid hardware iterations, not slowing them down with unnecessary red tape. This role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer (CPO). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Lifecycle Quality Integration: Define and implement quality criteria from early prototype phases and design validation (DVT) through to production readiness. * Risk Management (FMEA): Facilitate and maintain cross-functional Design FMEA (DFMEA) and Process FMEA (PFMEA) sessions to identify and mitigate risks early. * Root-Cause Analysis: Lead structured failure investigations (using tools like 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys) on test deviations, prototype failures, and component non-conformities, driving effective corrective actions. * Control & Inspection Plans: Develop cost-effective inspection strategies, test control plans, component traceability frameworks, and clear quality-gate readiness criteria. * Statistical Analysis: Apply practical statistical quality tools (such as MSA, SPC, and capability studies) to evaluate prototype performance and process variations. * Supplier Quality Support: Review supplier inspection results, coordinate on component specifications, and resolve material deviations with external partners. * Continuous Improvement: Build simple, scalable internal quality processes that support fast-paced product development and continuous team learning. YOUR PROFILE * Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in product or process quality roles within a complex, physical hardware development or manufacturing environment. * Quality Toolkit: Solid foundational knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA, control plans, risk management, and root-cause analysis methodologies. * Pragmatic & Cost-Conscious: A natural problem-solver who values lean, practical systems over heavy administration. You are highly motivated to keep operations nimble and cost-effective. * Hands-on Curiosity: Comfortable working directly alongside multidisciplinary engineers in laboratories, workshop floors, and testing areas. You are open to feedback and have a massive appetite to learn about battery electrochemistry and advanced hardware systems. * Analytical Mindset: Highly structured and detail-oriented. You easily distinguish between symptoms, correlations, and true root causes when analyzing technical datasets. * Industry Background: Experience in batteries, energy storage, automotive, aerospace, or advanced medical/hardware devices is highly valued. * Communication: Outstanding communication skills in English. You are confident in constructively challenging technical decisions when quality or reliability risks are identified.
We are expanding our technical development capabilities and are looking for two Junior Mechanical Engineers to join our team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will support the mechanical design, prototyping, and testing of our breakthrough iron-air battery cells, modules, and supporting hardware systems. Operating at the intersection of electrochemistry, materials science, and physical systems engineering, you will translate theoretical product requirements into practical, physical, and testable mechanical designs. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on, and iterative role for a curious, creative, and detail-oriented engineer who loves building, testing, and troubleshooting hardware in a fast-paced laboratory and workshop environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * CAD & Design Ownership: Create, update, and manage high-quality 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings for battery housings, seals, supports, and internal components. * Hands-on Prototyping: Build, modify, and inspect physical prototypes for development, structural analysis, and validation testing. * Testing & Troubleshooting: Actively participate in mechanical testing, experimental setup, and troubleshooting of prototype designs to assess tolerance, sealing, fit, and durability. * Root-Cause Analysis: Identify design weaknesses, contribute to root-cause failure analysis, and propose creative engineering improvements to simplify assembly, safety, and reliability. * Basic Engineering Calculations: Perform fundamental mechanical calculations, tolerance stack-up analyses, and basic structural design assessments. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with electrochemical, materials, and testing teams to ensure mechanical designs seamlessly support chemistry and performance requirements. * Technical Documentation: Systematically document design iterations, test observations, engineering changes, and key learning outcomes. YOUR PROFILE * Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Aerospace Engineering, or a highly related technical field. * CAD Proficiency: Strong foundational proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) and a clear understanding of technical drawing standards. * Hands-on Mindset: A proactive, physical problem-solver who genuinely enjoys working with tools, building experimental setups, and handling hardware in a workshop or lab. * Analytical Curiosity: Strong analytical and detail-oriented mindset with a fast learning curve and a deep curiosity for battery technology and energy storage systems. * Navigating Ambiguity: Comfortable working in an iterative design environment with evolving technical requirements and challenges. * Collaboration & Communication: Highly collaborative, open to feedback, and possessing excellent communication skills in English to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
