We're hiring Software Engineers for our Data Platform team to build and evolve Snowflake's real-time stream processing and data transformation platform. If you've built or researched high-throughput streaming systems or scalable transformation engines - in industry or graduate work - we want to talk. AS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER, DATA PLATFORM AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL: * Design and implement low-latency stream processing and in-flight data transformation systems at global scale * Own correctness and performance of streaming execution (watermarks, exactly-once delivery, out-of-order handling) * Build transformation primitives and operators that run reliably at cloud-scale throughput * Contribute to architectural decisions for our next-generation streaming and transformation platform * Write production-quality systems code and collaborate across product and engineering teams OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: * BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field — graduate research in streaming, distributed systems, or query/transformation engines is a strong differentiator * Deep distributed systems fundamentals: fault tolerance, consistency, state management * Hands-on or experience with stream processing or transformation systems (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spark Structured Streaming, or similar) * Proficiency in Java, Scala, C++, or Python * Familiarity with AI-native software engineering and agentic development workflows BONUS POINTS FOR: * Published research or thesis in streaming, real-time transformation, or distributed computation * Experience with stream processing engine internals (e.g., state backends, checkpointing, runtime, or operator development) in systems like Apache Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, or similar. * Experience with SQL engine internals: query optimization, execution plan design, storage formats, or transaction layers * Familiarity with Spec Driven Development (SDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD) * Familiarity with formal verification Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. ABOUT THE ROLE We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Data Platform team - the team that owns the core streaming execution and database internals powering Snowflake's platform. You'll work deep in the stack: stream processing runtimes, query execution engines, storage layers, and the distributed systems primitive that everything else is built on. AS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER, DATA PLATFORM AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL: * Design and implement high-throughput stream processing systems with strong correctness guarantees - exactly-once semantics, out-of-order event handling, low-latency execution * Work on database internals - query execution, operator design, storage engine components, or transaction processing at cloud scale * Own features and systems end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production observability * Drive architectural decisions that shape the long-term evolution of Snowflake's streaming and core platform layers * Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance * Partner across product, infrastructure, and research teams to deliver high-impact, foundational capabilities OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: * 5+ years of software engineering experience in distributed systems, query engines, streaming infrastructure, or database internals (or equivalent, including research) * BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field - graduate research in streaming systems, query processing, or database engines is a strong differentiator * Deep expertise in distributed systems: consistency, fault tolerance, replication, state management * Hands-on experience with stream processing systems - building, operating, or extending them (industry or academic) * Proficiency across multiple languages such asJava, Scala, C++, and Python, with a track record of production systems at scale * Proficiency with AI-native software engineering and agentic development workflows Ability to lead complex technical projects independently with minimal direction BONUS POINTS FOR: * Experience with stream processing engine internals (e.g., state backends, checkpointing, runtime, or operator development) in systems like Apache Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, or similar. * Experience with SQL engine internals: query optimization, execution plan design, storage formats, or transaction layers * Published research or thesis work in streaming, real-time query processing, or distributed computation * Contributions to open-source data infrastructure or database systems * Familiarity with Spec Driven Development (SDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD) * Familiarity with formal verification Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. In this specific role, you will lead the evolution of our declarative data pipelines, focusing on streaming ingestion and transformations. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Drive the technical strategy and architecture for key Data Platform initiatives, focusing heavily on real-time data movement and incremental processing. * Lead design reviews and set engineering standards across teams. * Identify and resolve high-impact technical challenges and systemic bottlenecks to reduce latency and improve the efficiency of dynamic tables at cloud scale. * Mentor and grow senior engineers; raise the engineering bar. * Partner closely with product and infrastructure leadership on roadmap and direction. * Continuous hands-on technical deliverables in the most critical areas. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * 14+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems. * Demonstrated track record of defining and delivering platform-scale technical initiatives. * Expert-level knowledge of streaming and/or batch data systems (Flink, Spark, or equivalent), with specialized knowledge in incremental materialization algorithms. * Strong systems thinking — ability to reason across layers of complexity (infra, storage, compute, API). * A passion for engaging directly with customers to gain insight and inspiration * Experience influencing technical direction across organizations * Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and executive audiences.
