At Proton, we believe that privacy is a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of democracy. Since our inception in 2014,
founded by a team of scientists from CERN, we have dedicated ourselves to providing free and open-source technology to millions
worldwide, ensuring access to privacy, security, and freedom online.
Our journey began with Proton Mail, the largest secure email service globally, and has since expanded to include Proton VPN,
Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass. These tools empower individuals and organizations to take control of their
personal data, break away from Big Tech’s invasive practices, and defeat censorship. Our work impacts hundreds of millions of
lives, from activists on the front lines defending freedom to leaders in governments protecting sensitive information. In some
cases, Proton’s services have even been instrumental in saving lives by enabling secure and private communications in high-risk
situations.
Proton today supports over 100 million user accounts with a growing team of over 500 people from over 50 different countries, from
the world's top companies and universities. We value intelligence, learning potential, and ambition in our hiring process.
Adaptability is key as we navigate uncharted territories and redefine how business is conducted online. We believe smaller teams
of exceptional talent will always prevail over larger teams with lower talent density. Proton has become profitable and reached
scale without relying upon VC funding, largely due to superior talent that allows us to do things faster, more creatively, and
more efficiently.
We have a global mindset and big ambitions but remain a start-up at heart. We value empowerment and flexibility and keep our
structure flat to keep moving fast and avoid unnecessary politics. Tired of blending into the crowd? Join us and do work you can
truly be proud of. Check our social media pages to learn more about us: Twitter, Reddit, Instagram.

ABOUT BITSTACK It all started with an idea in 2021. Initially built to democratize Bitcoin in France, Bitstack has gone from a simple product that invests spare change in bitcoin, to a crypto-native bank bringing a better way to save, spend, and grow money to our 300K+ users. We want to rebuild finance from the ground up to empower people to achieve financial freedom by participating in a more open and inclusive financial system. We’re a small, ambitious team of operators. We believe in moving fast, sweating the details, and creating products people truly love. At Bitstack, you’ll have the opportunity to shape not just our products, but the culture and practices of our entire organization. Bitstack is backed by YC, leading VCs like 13books Capital, Stillmark, Serena, and many more. We are building a product our users love and we are just getting started! THE ROLE Bitstack is hiring a Financial Controller & Accounting Manager to join its finance team at a defining moment for the company. Bitstack is moving from a single-product offering to a multi-product platform, expanding its commercial footprint across European markets through the French entity, and enhancing the regulatory licences that underpin the business. The finance function sits at the centre of that evolution. The Financial Controller & Accounting Manager will be central to preparing the company for its first external audit (on 2026 numbers, conducted in 2027) and for the Series B raise (late 2026 / Q1 2027). The role will own French statutory accounting, lead the relationships with the company's external accounting firm and tax advisor, design and implement revenue recognition for the new subscription and card interchange streams, and build the accounting, controls, and tax foundations on which the next stage of growth will be built. This is a hands-on, autonomous role with direct exposure to the Chief Financial Officer, the leadership team, and the co-founders. The successful candidate will make and own consequential decisions from the outset. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING * Lead French statutory accounting and own monthly and annual closes, transitioning the company from an annual to a monthly close cadence. * Manage the relationship with the external accounting firm and, from 2027, the appointed statutory auditor. * Lead the company's tax compliance across direct and indirect taxes — corporate income tax, VAT (including reverse-charge on non-EU services), and other applicable taxes — in close coordination with our specialist tax advisor. * Design and own the company's accounting policies, including revenue recognition for subscription and card interchange revenue streams, accruals, intercompany transactions, FX treatment, and other technical positions as they emerge. * Build and own the bad debt provisioning and collections framework for the new subscription business, in coordination with Product, Engineering, and Customer Service. * Build and maintain reconciliation workflows between Cryptio (crypto sub-ledger), the subscription billing platform, the Banking-as-a-Service provider, and Pennylane (core accounting platform). * Lead audit readiness preparation, including documentation, internal controls design, and audit trail integrity across the company's accounting systems. * Drive automation and AI adoption across the finance function — building workflows, leveraging AI for analysis and reporting, and using data and tooling as a core source of leverage. * Contribute to the broader finance systems roadmap, including the selection and implementation of close-management software and finance productivity tools. * Partner with the Data Lead to ensure finance data needs are met in the company's data warehouse. TECH STACK * Core accounting: Pennylane * Crypto sub-ledger: Cryptio * Treasury: Agicap * Procurement / SaaS contracts: Vertice * Close management: Numeric, FloQast, or equivalent (to be selected and implemented) * Analytics: Internal data warehouse, Metabase * Productivity: Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, ChatGPT WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * 6+ years of relevant professional experience, with a career path starting in audit at a top-tier firm (Big Four or equivalent), followed by industry experience as a Financial Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant. * Demonstrated experience managing external accounting partners and statutory auditors is essential. You should be able to describe specific examples of leading external relationships through close cycles, audits, or regulatory engagements. * Strong knowledge of French statutory accounting (Plan Comptable Général). Familiarity with IFRS is a plus. * Hands-on experience with modern accounting platforms or ERP systems (Pennylane, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar). Familiarity with crypto sub-ledger tools (Cryptio, Bitwave, Lukka, or similar) is highly valued. * Sector experience in crypto or fintech is highly valued. Experience in other B2C platforms (digital media, e-commerce, marketplace, consumer subscription) is also useful. Direct experience with regulated financial products (e-money, Banking-as-a-Service, payments) is a strong plus. * Languages: native French, professional working proficiency in English. * Strong technology and data fluency. Comfortable working with data tools (SQL or equivalent), light scripting (Python, JavaScript, or similar), AI productivity tools, and automation platforms. Sees technology as a core source of leverage for the finance function, not as a complement to the role. * Holistic perspective and strong business judgment. Able to connect accounting, tax, and controls topics to broader business decisions, well beyond technical compliance. * High autonomy and ownership mindset. Comfortable making decisions and driving outcomes with limited supervision, in a fast-moving environment. * Strong communicator. Able to engage credibly with external partners (accountants, auditors, tax advisors, regulators), challenge constructively, and translate technical topics for non-finance audiences. * Growth mindset. Curious, open to learning, and energised by an evolving scope as the company scales. INTERVIEW PROCESS 1. Introductory call our People Specialist — 30 minutes. Role fit, background, motivations, and process overview. 2. Interview with our CFO — 60 minutes. Role scope, technical experience, and strategic perspective. 3. Interview with our Finance Manager — 30 to 45 minutes. Day-to-day collaboration, operational experience, and team fit. 4. Business case interview with the CFO and Finance Manager — 60 minutes. An applied exercise on a topic relevant to the role (e.g. revenue recognition design, close transition, audit readiness). PERKS & BENEFITS 🌎 Work from our office in Paris (Bourse) or Remote 🕑 Flexible working hours 👩⚕️ One of the best health insurance plans with 100% employer contributions 🏄 Monthly team activities and annual offsites 🍉 Swile meal vouchers 🤑 Competitive salary based on experience & Bitstack stock options DIVERSITY & INCLUSION We hire talented and passionate people from all kinds of backgrounds, we don’t care about your age or where you studied. If you’re excited about the role but your past experience doesn’t match every bullet point in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. What matters most is that you’re a builder at heart, you share our values, and you’re enthusiastic about our mission. #LI-TT1
